More (Unnecessary) Details

December 21st, 2009 @ 12:12 pm by Mrs. Cheeseburger

You know when you’re having a bride moment and you HAVE to have something completely useless? Even after you SWORE you wouldn’t ever buy something so ridiculous? Yeah. That. Well, the following items are things that are totally unnecessary, and yet I wanted to have them anyway. Guests probably won’t even notice them, but I will! Here goes:

  1. Custom cocktail napkins
  2. Custom golf tees
  3. Custom guitar picks

I know, right? 3 TOTALLY NECESSARY ITEMS, obviously. Luckily, Burger Man and Cheeseburger Mom just smile and laugh at my insanity.

Custom Cocktail Napkins - this is not exactly a novel idea, as lots of couples have been personalizing napkins with things like their names, wedding date, monogram, cute pictures, etc. I wanted to take this trend and kick it up a notch.

Burger and I really, really love movies. A lot. So I thought I would use the napkins as a way to incorporate some quotes from our favorite movies (love quotes, of course)… oh, OK and one song quote.

Here they are:

  • “to me, you are perfect” - Love Actually
  • “…you’re my girl” - Forrest Gump
  • “When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible” - When Harry Met Sally
  • “I love you. Always have. I want to marry you.” - Braveheart
  • you are my greatest adventure” - The Incredibles
  • “for you, a thousand times over” - The Kite Runner (technically from one of our favorite books)
  • “true love is the soul’s recognition of its counterpoint in another” - Wedding Crashers
  • “I’ll dream about you, I will not doubt you, with the passing of time” - Say Anything (”Alive with the Glory of Love”)

I ordered them through For Your Party, and they arrived a few weeks later. They are actually pretty awesome - very good quality, and they look great. :)

Here are pictures of a few of them:

Custom Golf Tees - Mr. Burger loves golfing, and since so much of this wedding reflects my aesthetic and choices (though of course with his input and/or blessing), anything I can do to highlight my groom is a “go” in my book. We have lots of golfers on both sides of the family so I doubt they’ll go to waste. Who am I kidding, I’m sure at least some of them will go to waste. Whatever, they’re cute. :) I ordered them from Par Golf Supply, and while they didn’t have a ton of font choices, they were cheap and got here fast.

Custom Guitar Picks - I fell in love with Burger while he was playing his guitar. Seriously. Hohner (name of guitar #1) was the third member of our early relationship. To me, he is amazingly talented, though he will argue otherwise. In our junior year of college he and his then roommate played so often that it was pretty much all that they did - I don’t even think he watched much TV that year! So when I saw personalized guitar picks at our friends’ wedding this spring, I asked the bride’s permission to copy her idea (and she said yes! thanks Jesso)! I tried to keep these as simple as possible. I got black picks (thin of course, as Burger likes his) with our monogram in white with the date. Here is the mock-up from the online design studio at Steve Clayton.

We aren’t far enough in our planning to be able to come up with adorable little details like this, but you certainly set the bar high! LOVE those!

Love the quotes idea!

Did you have any guidelines to follow as far as how many of the beverage napkins to order? I would assume each guest would use more than one if they drink through the night!

These are so cute. You can be sure of people noticing, my aunt had custom napkins and I took one as a souvenir, everybody loved them. Its three years later and I still have it.

I love the napkins! So are the golf tees and guitar pics going to be favors? The guitar pics especially are so cute.

I’m obsessed with the details too! The man just shakes his head but I’m screen printing napkins and coasters (can you say redundant) and guest towels and made matches too.

Love them all!
Some of the best details are the completely “useless” ones. We’re doing napkins with our monogram on the gocco - a little passe’ ? - maybe, but I’m obsessedddddd with our monogram, so who cares. :) It feels good to throw the “I’m the bride and I want it” line out there every now and then!

@katieemarie: awesome question! We are going to be laying these out along with the plain cocktail napkins provided at the hotel. We got 300 of the custom napkins for our likely 250-300 guests, so they’re more for show than to accommodate each and every persons napkin needs ;)

@Mrs. Mouse: Haha I am anti favor. I don’t know why! I have always said from the get go “we’re not doing favors, we’re doing a donation” - and we are! But I keep adding in these little things here and there. So they won’t be favors in the traditional sense, but we obviously expect our guests to take them! Also, if anyone is curious, we got 100 golf tees and 200 picks. No rhyme or reason there. ;)

I had this problem with completely unnecessary but adorable things last night. We were thinking about water bottle labels, but once Mr. Library made me really think about it, we decided we didn’t really need them. His brother, though, would LOVE your golf tees! Those are awesome!
