Mrs. Lamb, Norfolk Age and Occupation: 25, Homeland Security Consultant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Graduate Student Engagement Date: January 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Trinity Presbyterian Church/Harrison Opera House About Me: I’m a Homeland Security Consultant with a tendency towards pulling office pranks, taking lunch breaks, and drinking Wawa shakes. I’m also an English major with a serious obsession with alliteration and rhymes. While I’m not keeping America safe, I’m training for half marathons and the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Or moving for the third time this year. Or baking. Or wedding crafting. Or crying about wedding planning. All the while, I’m getting myself into Lucille Ball-esque scrapes and making Jim Carey-esque faces. Our big fat Czech/Baptist/Jewish/Italian wedding is a combination of vintage eclectic, DIY, and little spoonful of sugar from our Event Coordinator. It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!
About Mrs. Lamb

One Hot Tip

December 22nd, 2009 @ 9:49 am by Mrs. Lamb

If it were any hotter, I’d charge ya.

Have Thank You cards ready to go early.

Having these bad boys at the ready, will save you heartache, pain, agony, ulcers, and appendicitis. OK, well maybe not appendicitis.

If you plan on buying them, no problemo. Just order a bunch (like the same number of invitations you ordered plus extras if you’re having a shower) a few months out. If you’re a glutton for crafting punishment like me, then get those magic fingers a cuttin’ and a stampin’! Here, I’ve turned my kitchen table into a Thank You card workshop. After stamping and arranging cards to dry all over the table, I promptly started cursing that I had run out of horizontal drying surfaces. “Dagnabbit! I’ve stamped myself into a 2 foot square space and can’t reach the bathroom!”

For the showers, I created lots of blue stamped wonders on some deeply discounted Martha Stewart note cards. I’ve learned that whenever I see blank note cards on sale to snatch them up. I actually will use them and not just find them in a box after 2 more moves and wonder why I ever bought them in the first place.

I also made an assortment of black and white cards that match our wedding colors to use whenever I need a note. The embellishments were all in the clearance section which I frequent every time I’m within 100 yards of a Michaels. My sniffer has gotten really good at sniffing out the items in our wedding colors.

As we have received gifts, I have been sending Thank Yous so that the sender knows we have received the gift and appreciate their kind thoughts. Though I know that we’ll have plenty to write post-wedding as well, having the notes made already will make the process a little easier. Well, that and a bottle of wine.

Do you have any Thank You card tips? Did any preparations make your process easier?

I, too, have my thank you cards at the ready. I was browsing TJMaxx one day and saw the most GORGEOUS thank you cards that go so perfectly with our theme that I just had to snatch them up! I’m sure post-wedding I’ll be thanking my lucky stars that I bought them early.

Good idea! Only I think I want to use a card w/ our photo on it for the wedding but this makes total sense for the shower!

Your cards are cute! When I did my thank you notes, I typed out everything I wanted to include on each card in a word document before I wrote it out by hand in the card. Doing it this way helped me to space out my words and I had less screwed up cards. I knew what I was going to write and didn’t have to worry about sentences not making sense or something.

I bought a pen that lit up. It saved my day more than once! Even when I got bored, I had a fun pen and that made all that writing a little more bearable. I also actually made the man sign his name to the cards. His handwriting may not be legible enough for him to actually have written the notes, but at least he signed his own darn name.

After experimenting with several Stampin’ parties, I’ve learned that my craftiness has it’s limits (mainly making cards that look like something I’d want to share with others). Accepting defeat, I went to Target and picked up a bunch of elegant thank you cards.

I have a tip that’s not re: thank you notes but I learned the hard way: Keep your response cards in ALPHABETICAL ORDER as they come back. Much easier to go through the list over and over again.

Goldilocks, I got my TYs last night at Target too!

Another great idea is to write out some cards - maybe 10% of your guest list, as Thank You for the cash… and then just address them as you get money. Not exactly “thanks for the cash” but you get what I mean.

@lara bee - that’s a great tip! to add on, make sure you keep the same pen around so the name and note match up!

Great job. I wish I would’ve done this! The best thank you tip I can give, is to start a document with a list of every person who gives you a gift and exactly what they gave you. It will make TYs so much easier down the road.

wow, you are so on top of things!
We bought our thank you notes (i was too overwhelmed for any more crafting with a big move right after the wedding)

But it took me ages to write and send them. Wish I would have done them as I received each gift instead of all at once!

Getting thank you cards out is a big concern for me. I just can never seem to get them out in time. I need to be proactive, like you, and get some done ahead of time. Did you use stamps for the shower thank you cards?
