Mrs. Guinea Pig, Baltimore, MD Age and Occupation: 26, PhD student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Operations Director at a non-profit Engagement Date: December 25, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: The Chesapeake Bay Beach Club About Me: I'm a tomboy science nerd whose girly side has made a startling appearance thanks to wedding planning! I love to bake, knit and sew but I also ride a motorcycle (that Mr. Guinea Pig wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole). We live with our three crazy cats and love to read, travel, watch movies, and do home improvement projects together! My parents/family are Canadian but I'm definitely American, although I've lived in 5 different countries, 6 different states, and speak Russian fluently. Mr. GP and I met online (did I mention I'm a scientist?) and had a whirlwind romance - now we can't wait to get married & celebrate with all our friends and family in a blue and yellow waterfront affair!

Blue {Satin} Shoes

December 23rd, 2009 @ 1:26 pm by Mrs. Guinea Pig

Although it took me forever to find the perfect blue for my bridesmaids, I will be wearing a different blue…

Blue {Satin} Shoes : wedding shoes Shoes202 shoes202

(Abby, by Touch Ups - dyed blue)

To Mr. Guinea Pig’s surprise/unease, I knew from the very beginning I wanted to wear blue shoes. His response?

“But.. it’s a white dress. Shouldn’t you wear white shoes?”

Ha! He should read more wedding blogs. :)

As much as I absolutely love the color of the bridesmaids’ dresses, I did not feel the need to match my shoes to their dresses exactly.

I think as my search for the ’perfect’ blue carried on, I realized that I actually just feel happy when I see any shade of blue! So while I had a specific image in my head for the color of the bridesmaids’ dresses, I have slowly incorporated other shades of blue into the wedding, including my shoes! I actually had these shoes dyed to match my rehearsal dinner dress (yes, I already have it) but when I tried them on with the dress I felt like it was too matchy matchy (and remember, we’re only going for one matchy) so I might find a different shoe to wear with that dress. Although, I had been looking forward to wearing these shoes twice, and showing them off a lot more at the rehearsal, but maybe it’s better that they are reserved as ’special’ for the wedding day?

I’m also considering adding a shoe clip for a little bling, but I’m struggling to find something that matches what I had in my mind (Surprise! Not.). Here are some of the options I’m considering:

Blue {Satin} Shoes : wedding shoes Shoecli01 shoecli01

(from BeadFloraJewels, on Etsy)

I like the beading and the fact that it’s not super sparkly yet still adds interest, but the flowers seem a little big for me. Not to mention this is by far the most expensive option.

Blue {Satin} Shoes : wedding shoes Shoecli02 shoecli02

(from queenartist1, on Etsy)

These are pretty small (only 1 1/8″ long!) and again, I like the flower design - these would be a good balance of bling while not being overwhelming!

Blue {Satin} Shoes : wedding shoes Shoecli03 shoecli03

(from abitofnostalgia, on Etsy)

These are a good size and definitely add shine, but don’t have the flower theme. That might be okay; I’m afraid of overdoing the flowers. :)

Blue {Satin} Shoes : wedding shoes Shoecli04 shoecli04

(found on eBay)

Or maybe a vintage deco bow shape?

There are too many options! Even if I don’t find shoe clips I have to have, I’m so happy with the blue shoes that it wouldn’t matter. And just for fun, here’s a sneak peek of the shoes in action when I picked up my wedding dress:

Are you wearing colored shoes for your wedding? Did you add shoe clips? What’s your favorite place to find accessories (besides Etsy!)?

i am absolutely wearing colored shoes. hopefully blue. i just don’t want to worry about whether or not the white matches. that’s like trying to match black. not impossible but super hard. plus, i don’t wear white shoes that option so i’d rather have a pair that i can easily rewear!

I wore blue satin shoes as well! My BMs wore navy dresses, but my shoes were a bit more royal navy than true navy. I was fine with it as well. No clips though, mine had a snazzy bow :)

I’ve got champagne coloured shoes and an ivory dress. I love how they play off each other for a bit of a softer more romantic feel :)

Ah, I’ve been eyeing the Touch Ups Abbys forever! I love that the heels aren’t super tall. How do they feel, though? I’m not expecting any bridal shoe to be remarkably comfortable, but are they tolerable to stay in for hours?

Such cute shoes! Mine are bright electric blue as well, and I can’t wait to wear them. Shockingly, even my uber traditional mother thinks they’re “cute!”

Aaaah that’s exactly the color blue I want! I didn’t want to do dye-ables because I’m paranoid the color will turn out weird but you may have inspired me to go for it. Looks great. P.S. - the bottom of your dress looks like mine. I totally just got a sneak preview of my own look. Awesome!

I love the color of those shoes. I really wish I hadn’t caved to my mom and sister and worn ivory shoes. They were horrified that I wanted to do colored shoes. Guess they don’t read Weddingbee! :)

The color is adorable. :) I wanted to wear something strappier since I’ll have henna on my feet, but otherwise I would have gone with a blue satin peep toe, too… they are so pretty!

i liked the colored shoe idea, and then i started visiting blogs. I had thought that I wanted a shoe to wear again, but saw it was a major trend, so I actually ended up with neutral colored shoes, since the search for perfect colorful ones was exhausting. I went more classic than I thought I would going into the planning. I guess blog overload can do that to you!

I love those shoes & the color. I think I’m going to end up with ivory shoes even thoughtI always wanted color, I just think Ivory will match my dress better.
You should really confuse Mr. GP and wear white shoes with your blue rehearsal dinner dress.
