High School Satellite

December 23rd, 2009 @ 5:18 pm by Mrs. Parfait

When BFF and I met for our Christmas celebration, we took a little time to discuss satellite party details! About that: My wedding planning book calls all the events surrounding a wedding “Satellite Celebrations”, so that’s what I’ve taken to calling them.

We brainstormed a list of themes that we could use for any of the events. Since Mr. Parfait and I met in high school, we thought a high school theme would be appropriate! Besides our little brainstorming session, BFF wants to keep the details of these parties a surprise. But I couldn’t resist—as soon as I got home, I did some research to flesh out the theme!

For starters, we could set the tables with simple centerpieces in our school colors. Ours were red and white, just like this. Check out the notebook paper place cards!

Stacks of colorful books look fresh, while invitations inspired by library book cards lend some nostalgia.

This wall of lockers could serve as a doodle pad and guest book for the event. Those two decked-out lockers would be his and mine. They’d be so much fun to decorate!

Mini chalkboards, biggie chalkboards—the teacher in me loves them all! We could use these to display a menu, seating chart, or directions for a game.

And the secret reason that BFF and I love this theme? Because we L-O-V-E High School Musical! A high school themed party would be the perfect excuse to play HSM soundtracks in the background and make food tributes to the movies (“A pi pie!” “Strudels, scones, even apply pandowdy!”). We’re so sneaky.

Are you clued into themes for your satellite celebrations, or are you looking forward to being surprised?

I remember seeing those first set of photos awhile back…that’s an amazing wedding!
I loooove the whole high school theme; there’s sooo much you can do with it!
The locker doodle pad is such a cute idea too…who comes up with this stuff?!

i loved that first wedding! i thought they did a fabulous job carrying out that theme.

i’ve already been told that i’ll be helping plan the “satellite” parties because my sister and bestie are nervous about putting together a party for me. i guess being the resident martha stewart does have it downsides. LOL

Love this theme! Mr. HC and I met in high school as well, so I have a total gooey spot in my heart for school-themed parties and weddings.

Ok so for the library card things you can get them at Lakeshore learning center for uber cheap and you get a ton so you could probably carry them through a few projects

It’s all so cute! Can I have another satellite party, please?? My bridal-army attempted to keep me in the dark, but I started to realize something was going on when half the black picture frames and all my white decorations went missing from my house one weekend!

As a teacher, I’m in LOVE with anything school-related and all of those inspiration boards! However, I’m a sucker for anything that is a surprise so I will have to butt out for the satellite events.

Love this, and so appropriate for you and Mr. Parfait! The locker guest book is a fantastic idea!!! You could also create a special shower “yearbook” featuring pictures of all the ladies in attendance, pics of you and Mr. Parfait, and have your guests sign your yearbook, just like old times!

Just to take this probably too far, LOL, you could include a shot of your rings with the caption “Our new class rings.” :)

Those decorated lockers are so cute! I love the high school theme :) I have zero input in most of my satellite celebrations (perfect description!) and I doubt most of them will have a theme, so I will live vicariously through yours!
