OOT Bags (Pt. 2)

December 23rd, 2009 @ 3:55 pm by Mrs. Nachos

Now that I had the bags, I had to figure out what to put in them…

OOT Bags (Pt. 2) : wedding favors Oot Bags Pt 1 001 oot-bags-pt-1-001

At first, Mr. N and I both thought beach towels would be cute, possibly with everyone’s initials on them. Then I scoured the internet for affordable ones and realized that they are just not out there unless you order them in quantities of 200 or more. Um, no. I also realized that if we were worried about getting the bags alone out there, how in the world would we be able to add 24 towels to our list of things to bring? So, towels were out.

I looked all over the internet to get ideas, but found that people typically make out-of-town bags for people coming in from out-of-town, so the couple has the luxury of giving them out in their hometown. I found a few ideas, though…

Snacks: I figure when we get to St. Thomas, we have to hit the courthouse for the marriage license, so while we’re out we plan on hitting the stores (they have a Kmart and something along the lines of Costco) and stocking up on granola bars, chips, nuts, etc. – basically anything to keep our guests from having to go to the vending machines for something to nibble on.

Bottled Water: We’ll buy a case or 2 along with the snacks, and I plan on making personalized labels for the bottles. Something along these lines…

Sunscreen: We originally talked about trying to find little bottles of sunscreen that we could slap our own labels on – something like…

But we had trouble finding ones that we could order in small quantities. We thought about bottling our own – ebottles.com has these for pretty cheap…

But finding industrial-sized jugs of sunscreen to fill those with is proving to be tough. Mr. N’s mom found some little bottles at Target about a month ago but I haven’t made it out there. I’m guessing at this point, they’re probably gone, but once spring comes back around, we should be able to snatch some up.

Most airports and hotels have free maps, guide books, and coupon books and we plan on cleaning them out of as many as we can fit in our hot little hands.

First Aid Kit: We’ll make these ourselves, complete with Band-Aids, pain relievers, antacids, and antibiotic ointment.

Sewing Kit: ‘Nuff said.

In the kids’ bags: coloring books, stickers, fun straws, etc. Basically, anything to keep them busy.

The bags are pretty big and that’s about all I’ve come with so far. I’m still brainstorming about what else we can bring, but I’m thinking once we take our shopping trip in St. Thomas, we’ll find tons of things to add. Do you have any other suggestions?

My favorite thing in the OOT bag when I was in a DW in Turks was a CD they made for us to play in the CD Player/Alarm Clock. I still have this in my car and play it all the time (its been 2 1/2 yrs). Find out if there is a CD player in the rooms and you could do something like that too.

I love the idea of the labeled snacks. Resorts usually jack up their prices in the gift shops anyway, so this will be nice to give to your guests, and it saves them money. I would go with this and the first aid kit. Sidebar-I love your posts. I always become so engrossed with your planning stories. I feel a connection, mainly because my family is from St. Thomas, so I know you will have a beautiful wedding.

I love the idea of snacks! Maybe you’ll find something tropically-flavored (?).

@mander411: That’s such a great idea and they won’t take up much room in our luggage. Thanks!

@dsuhornets: Awwww, that gave me the warm fuzzies, thank you :)

I saw first aid kits (the small ones) at Dollar Tree that you could put a personalized label on. FOR. A. BUCK!
Doesn’t get much better than that! They’re online if you don’t have one local.

Sunglasses, a beach ball, a cup with a fun straw. Good luck and can’t wait to hear what you ended up with!

you are so welcome! They even included a tune or two that had a beachy vibe to it like Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole… love that one

For the suncreen, you should try looking at lifeguard stores. I know http://www.thelifeguardstore.com sells gallon jugs of SPF 30 with a pump, but they are pricey… $105 each! Great ideas - good luck!

You could get towels and have them embroidered pretty easily if you know someone with a sewing machine.

Bring some stamps and buy your guests postcards to send home. Or what about personalized koozies or cups?

how about little bottles of aloe vera in the first aid kits too? Just in case they forget the sunscreen :)

We are putting:
- first aid kits $0.97 from walmart
-self stamped postcards printed from Vistaprint from our trip to Aruba in place of a guestbook (we are telling them to share their favorite moment about their trip with us, so I can scrapbook it later)
-Virginia Peanuts (our hometown)
-Door hanger(”here celebrating the J & J Wedding”)
-maps/welcome letter
-tylenol
-hand sanitizer
-granola bars
-Fi’s favorite gum
-water with monogram labels
-swim suit bags (for wet suits!)

I wholeheartedly agree with the chap stick, aloe gel, and koozies as being great ideas! You might could include a floppy hat (think fisher-style) for those with really sensitive skin. Those wouldn’t take up too much room, and you could probably embroider them. Another idea would be cheap sunglasses, in case someone forgets a pair.

I love the suggestions everyone has come up with! Stealing some ideas for our OOT bags even though we’re not a DW :) I like everything you’re putting in your bags, Nachos! Especially the sunscreen and the snacks.

These are all great ideas! One thing I’d recommend though, if you do end up filling bottles of sunscreen would be to put the brand name on it somehow, since some people are allergic to some sunscreens (I get hives from some!).

Love your ideas! Just thought I’d pop my head in and offer up a recommendation to you for your personalized water labels.

Bottle Your Brand prints custom water labels and they do a fabulous job. They’re affordable, high quality, and everything I’ve gotten from there has been awesome.

Congrats on your wedding!
