Mrs. Guinea Pig's Picture
Mrs. Guinea Pig, Baltimore, MD Age and Occupation: 26, PhD student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Operations Director at a non-profit Engagement Date: December 25, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: The Chesapeake Bay Beach Club About Me: I'm a tomboy science nerd whose girly side has made a startling appearance thanks to wedding planning! I love to bake, knit and sew but I also ride a motorcycle (that Mr. Guinea Pig wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole). We live with our three crazy cats and love to read, travel, watch movies, and do home improvement projects together! My parents/family are Canadian but I'm definitely American, although I've lived in 5 different countries, 6 different states, and speak Russian fluently. Mr. GP and I met online (did I mention I'm a scientist?) and had a whirlwind romance - now we can't wait to get married & celebrate with all our friends and family in a blue and yellow waterfront affair!
About Mrs. Guinea Pig

The Line-Up

December 23rd, 2009 @ 5:41 pm by Mrs. Guinea Pig

It’s a good thing I know Photoshop well or else it would be embarrassing to admit I spent time on this. Now that I know which dresses all my friends have chosen as their bridesmaids’ dresses, I threw a sample photo of each into Photoshop and tried to match it to our color, then made a lineup! But before I show you that photo, I should probably introduce our bridesmaid dress designer…

Lula Kate! Here are a few fun photos from their website to give you an idea of their cute dresses.

This is the dress line that had my ’perfect blue’! It’s a color called Malibu, and what I haven’t mentioned before is that actually only 4 of the 5 girls will be wearing the bright blue. Sister Guinea Pig (the maid of honor - have I mentioned that?) will be wearing a dress in our second color: pale yellow (a color called Corn at LulaKate)! She loves wearing yellow and I’m happy that she gets to stand out a little as sister/maid of honor in a different color! By the way, {begin Public Service Announcement} this is definitely a case of don’t-trust-the-color-on-your-monitor. The Malibu color in their online color chart looks nothing like it does in person. Always check out fabric swatches in person! {End PSA}

Once I knew that LulaKate had the perfect color and cute dresses, I told my friends to browse through the line and choose whatever dress they wanted, and we’d order it in knee length. LulaKate has 4 different skirt styles (straight, A-line, full, and party) that you can combine with any of the necklines, and you can add bands at the waists, sashes, multiple colors, you name it! And the full and party skirts have pockets (a big selling point)! As luck would have it for me, all my friends chose different dresses, so I’m really excited to see them all come together in the same color, but with each style matching the friend! Here’s the mockup I made, that I mentioned earlier:

The Line-Up : wedding bridesmaid dress Bmdres bm+dres

(from L to R dress styles are: Ashley, Meredith, Maggie, Millie, and Pearl)

Keep in mind the colors are not exact because I just used Photoshop to mess with them until they were as close as I could get them! And the skirt styles are not necessarily the same ones each girl chose, but it’s a good enough approximation to make me very excited! I love the combination of v-neck/boatneck, one shoulder and strapless that we’ll have! I think these will look great at our outdoor ceremony, especially the combination of colors, and I can’t wait to see them in person, all lined up for real!

Did you do anything obsessive like make a mockup of your bridal party attire before the big day? Will you have more than one color in your bridal party outfits?

Fun dresses! You’ve inspired me to make a mock-up of my girls’ dresses, too. They’re all different styles and colors, so I’m curious to see what they’ll look like together!

Thanks ladies! Glad you like them! They’re on the expensive end of things unfortunately, so I’m covering a chunk of them for the girls, but I’m excited they chose what they’re wearing so theoretically they’ll like it more! :)

I think these are going to look great. My gals each wore a different dress from JCrew and I loved the look in the photos. They look so cool with different necklines and straps.

YOU’RE USING LULAKATE!!!!!! They’re from Charleston! My friend worked with/for the owners/designers when we were in high school and they are the most wonderful people! They asked my friends and I to model for them in a fashion show and I wore the very first bridesmaid sample in black. They are great!

I was actually going to suggest LulaKate after your previous post and decided I should see if you’ve posted since. And it looks like great minds think alike!

PS-These pictures were taken at Lowndes Grove–a plantation on the river in Charleston. Look at this wedding there: http://www.staciandsam.com/

You have just done what I’ve been wishing for several weeks there was a way to do! I also just selected Lula Kate dresses, and am also letting my girls pick whatever dress they like. I would LOVE to have a “line up” of the dresses they picked in the color Tomato shantung, but couldn’t find any pictures on the website of the dresses in that color. I now know there is a way to do it! Unfortunately I have no idea how to use photoshop :( But at least there is hope!
