The Two that Got Away

December 27th, 2009 @ 12:45 pm by Mrs. Pug

There are two dresses that I think about from time to time during my moments of dress-doubt. One of the hard things for me about shopping for dresses was eliminating all those that, for whatever reason, weren’t as good as the top choice. I know that sounds silly and obvious, but different dresses convey different feelings/moods/qualities and you’d like to be able to take advantage of all of those.

Here were my runner-ups. Please meet Anya and Arnaude.

I fell in love with the simple elegance of Anya. Anya hails from Amsale, and was so simply chic, elegant, and Jackie O. This is probably the one time I’m going to say this, but it looked better on me than it does on this model (probably b/c she is too emaciated to fill it out, even a little).

Alas, I felt that maybe she was *too* sophisticated for me, that the high neckline swallowed me up and imposed on me an older identity than I wanted.

Finally, there was Arnaude. Oh, Arnaude.

I found Arnaude in a bridal salon called Hitched in Washington DC, a friendly little place in Georgetown. I just about lost it over this dress:

My heart actually squeezes a little when I look at this dress. I even made an appointment to meet the Ulla-Maija designer at an upcoming trunk show so that I could get a better idea of how the draping would look on me.

However, in the end, it was not meant to be. The cost of both these dresses was definitely a barrier, and I also felt like maybe the high necklines, albeit bee-yoo-tee-ful, were perhaps not as alluring? I dunno. I still think these dresses are gorgeous, but that’s the way the cookies crumble.

Are there any dresses you still dream about, even after finding your dress?

There was a runner up to my dress that I still think about. It’s gooorgeous, but just not as fun as what I ordered. It’s an Amsale as well. Dirty temptress. :p

I loved (and still love) two dresses from Melissa Sweet–Dora and Saffron. But for 1/4 of the price I was able to get a perfect dress from Watters (Rosalyn). PS I love that all the dresses have names–it’s like they’re real people with their own personalities ;-)

OMG Arnaude (I gasped when I saw that one!! It’s gorgeous!!) But I’d be too clumsy to figure out the draping and probably be late to my own wedding (the horror) trying to make sure it was tres parfait!!

Those are both so pretty! Honestly, there isn’t any dresses that I tried on that I think about, occasionally I see one in a magazine or online that I like but I still love mine the best!

I think the second dress was one “Say Yes to the Dress” the other day. They couldn’t figure out how to drape it on the bride and it did not look as good as on the model.

There is a Jim Hjelm dress that I tried on, and didn’t like on me. Every time I see it on someone else though, I think “Ah, they have on my dress!” It’s not the one I picked and I love the one I picked so much more but it was my first wedding dress I ever cut out of a magazine. It holds sentimental value, I guess.

Those dresses are so sophisticated. I’m still in love with the Melissa Sweet Cosimma.

I still haven’t picked my dress but every time I see Vera Wang’s Diana I wish that I could try it on. Alas, it’s out of my price range.
@charmbracelet- I agree I definitely think it was Arnaude they were having trouble with on SYTTD

Wow, those dresses are just gorgeous. I did fall in love with a Marisa dress that was just out of my price range.

Oh yes yes! There was a Romona Keveza dress with a strap over one shoulder that was absolutely stunning. If I was having a city wedding in a gallery or a loft, then it would have been my dress hands down. It just didn’t feel right for the vibe of our wedding, but I still think about that dress all the time :-)

Dont know if you found the dress..but just to let you know - high necklines are VERY alluring! I went to a friends wedding in September and she had a GORGEOUS dres that had a higher neckline…its hard to describe because it wasnt straight across like the Anya or draped like the Arnaude. But the back of the dress had these amazing beaded straps that criss crossed and her back was her best feature so thats what she accentuated!! Its gorgeous! If anyone is intersted in a pic PM me and Ill send it to you! Dont know who her dress is made by but I do know she got it in Alexandria, VA from Lestar Bridal

I saw a demitrios online that I just loved and couldn’t get out of my mind. However, when I saw my dress, and then saw myself in it, there was no going back. I was physically unable to leave the store without it. I was only there to look at bridesmaid dresses!

ps- I still can’t find a BM dress!!

The Ellie Saab Ceres still haunts my dreams :( It just doesn’t go with my theme. GORGEOUS, though….
