About Mrs. Lamb

Or, How I Used Hot Rollers. Or, How Hair and Makeup Overtook My Shoe Nightmare.

Bee-A-Ewe-tiful, Take Four, Five and Six : wedding hair makeup trial Hometr Home+Tr

Well, color me pink and call me a hot roller. After hair trials 1, 2, and 3, I rolled and teased my way through 3 more trials at home.

Bee-A-Ewe-tiful, Take Four, Five and Six : wedding hair makeup trial Allhom All+Hom

As seen on the far left, I think I was the most successful at my first try. The waves on the right side of the picture are as close to my inspiration as I’ve gotten, but a large portion on the left side just didn’t end up curling. I also didn’t have a drop of hairspray in my house (I don’t remember the last time I used hairspray). My second try in the middle was quasi-successful, but again, I didn’t have hairspray and one roller rebelled. My third try yesterday involved a bottle of Pantene Extra Hold and turned out the most dubious of all. My besmirched face says it all. I think the hairspray just ended up weighing down my hair.

Ms. P continued to search for hair stylists while I experimented at home. I think we’ve found a winner, but with only single digit days until the wedding and my dream stylist across the state, I’m going to have to brave it without a trial. It’s a gamble, but after seeing her online portfolio, I’m willing to roll the dice!

Did you leave anything to chance on your Big Day? Or do you think I’m off my rocker for committing without a trial?

P.S. I did gain something from my trials at home - a perfect lip color! Maybelline’s Superstay Lipcolor in Flame. I put it on at 8:30 AM on Christmas Eve, ate a Wawa Hoagie, moisturized twice with Chapstick because I had left the stick in the trunk, re-moisturized correctly before Church, and it stayed put for 12 hours. Lambers got her RED lipstick AND it won’t kiss off!

I have a hard time keeping my hair with any curl since I have very fine and straight hair. I just found a great new product that’s cheap - double bonus! I used the spray gel from Herbal Essences new line - Tousle Me Softly (or something like that). They have other products in the line, but I’ve found their line helps give my hair the extra texture to hold curl without going through so much hairspray.

I have issues with hot rollers, too. I can never get them to look “right.” Your lip color is absolutely FAB, btw!

Love the lip color! Sorry your at home trials weren’t all winners but I’ll keep my fingers crossed for exactly what you want on the wedding day! I’m sure if you tell that stylist your story, she’ll work extra hard to make it just right :)

OH Miss lamb how I wish I could do ur makeup!! If u choose to do it urself - here’s some tips:

1. absolutely no shimmer unless it’s a highlighter (like for under the browbone, inner corners of the eyes, and upper cheekbones) and even then u want it to be semi-matte - shimmer photographs horribly.

2. Since ur eyes are a gorgeous shade of blue, I would take a white eyeliner and line the inner rim of the eyes - this will make ur eye open up and look more awake.

3. WATERPROOF MASCARA! Enough said.

4. Foundation without an spf - the sunscreen will reflect off ur face when ur being photographed which will give u a very pale face. This accounts for those photographs at the bars in which you and ur girlfriends all look super pale!! Follow up with a spf-free powder to ensure u stay shine free all day!

5. LIPLINER a soft brown will do the trick - it’ll prevent the lipcolor from bleeding.

I would suggest going onto youtube and searching “kandee johnson” - she has some FANTASTIC makeup tutorials - everything from glam red carpet looks to girl next door. My personal faves are the rihanna look, the megan fox/katy perry pinup look, taylor swift love story look (which would be perfect for wedding makeup), and the carrie underwood look - Im a big fan of the smoky eye tee hee!

I would suggest the Gwen stefani tutorials to pair with ur red lip - watch these and simply tone down the makeup a bit:

If ur totally makeup impaired, I would suggest visiting ur local Macy’s and checking out the MAC counter - usually they will do ur makeup with a $50 cosmetic purchase. However I think u can pocket your money and with a little practice you can achieve the look all on your own!!

If you have any questions just reply to this and I will get back to u - good luck and congrats!!

My hair is super straight and does not like to hold a curl. Whenever I use hot/velcro rollers, I tease my hair at the crown with a fine tooth comb, and spritz on hairspray to sections of hair BEFORE I curl. This is important, because it won’t make your hair heavy, but will still provide great hold. Also, never brush your hair after curling…just finger comb!

You need to go buy some Redken Spray Starch STAT. That stuff is amazing. Professional products will hold your hair a million times better than something like Pantene. Seriously!!!! Hot rollers are great, but you do need something to hold your hair. Spray Starch is genius. Also, Kenra hair spray is great. They also have a shine spray that’ll make your hair glossy. I love all 3 of those products–I highly recommend!

@anvil_chick: They’re either Conair or Remington I think . . .
@mattsonc: Thanks for the tip - may have to try that!@Annette: Thanks for the tips!
@Miss Pudding: I had seen that spray before the curl trick before and used it for the last trial . . . I’m not sure how I blew it!
@ejs4y8: Spray starch eh? I’m willing to give it a whirl!
