Crazy Cat People

Things started normally enough – I had one cat, Mr. Guinea Pig had two. Then we moved in together, and now we have three! If you thought, ‘Psh, three’s not that many,’ then you obviously haven’t met our cats (well, I guess you were introduced to Buster in my introductory post)!

(Six loves to lay on anything)

(Buster in a typical position)

(pretty, tiny, Allie)

Our cats are pretty important to us, and we love them dearly. If you’ve ever made a snarky comment about ‘those people’ who talk about their pets all the time, and tell stories like they’re kids… well, that might be us. Guilty as charged. But only funny stories, I swear.

(How could you not love these personal space heaters?)

And as much as they sometimes act like dogs (Buster plays fetch and knows the sit command!), unfortunately they are not outdoor cats and there is no way to incorporate them in person (in cat?) at our wedding.

(oh dear… source)

Too bad we don’t have enough cats for each bridesmaid to carry one down the aisle instead of a bouquet (I kid, I kid)! I would still love to pay tribute to our three furry family members in some manner at our wedding. My first thought was to include some photos of them in the table numbers! Mr. Guinea Pig, on the other hand, immediately said, “I don’t want to be those crazy cat people who put pictures of their cats everywhere.” So now I’m on the hunt to create a very subtle tribute to our feline family members! Got any ideas?!

Have you ever seen an animal at a wedding? Will you be including your pets in your wedding?

Your cats are adorable!! We have 3 cats as well and we feel the exact same way about them, but still fear the “crazy cat people” comments. We included a note from our kitties in our program. It was cute, but subtle. We also considered “cat of the bride” and “cat of the groom” listed where all the other family is listed in the program. Since, you know, they are totally part of the family.

I’m totally interested in what other people have to say here, since I’ve fallen flat on figuring out how to incorporate my feline into the day’s festivities. However, my fiance recently referred to Catherine (named years ago, so I could call her “Cat” for short :) ) as “*our* cat”, and my heart just about melted.

I am creating a book for our guest book using blurb. It is going to include pictures of my cats along with space for people to write messages.

ohmygosh I love your kitties! adorable.

I know what you mean about being those “crazy animal people” — we have 2 dogs and 1 cat, and I’m pretty sure people think we’re nuts.

I thought about doing table numbers to incorporate them, too, but it probably won’t work. We might frame pictures of them for our “photo booth wall” as a subtle nod to our babies. :)

I love my cats! I’m an animal person totally but can only have cats where I live and am not home enough for dogs – I lovingly refer to them as Mama Goose and Babushka (aka Piper and Spencer)- Fi thinks I am nuts but I hear him talking to them too :)

It is way easier to incorporate dogs (ppl won’t think you are crazy), I’m at a loss for cats

I have been looking for ideas for the same reason. Love the bridesmaid carrying the cat idea, lol! We are doing a photo slideshow, which will no doubt be filled with us and our monsters, but I’m still looking for more ideas.

In lieu of gifts for our guests we’re donating money to the MSPCA so I’m going to make a sign with my two cats on it. That way they can be included without actually having to walk down the aisle!
By the way your cats are adorable! Six and Buster look like twins!

haha, I love the idea of the table numbers :) or maybe i just have no fear of being “those people”.. Mr.D and I have a large orange tabby and a small black calico who reminds me of your Alli.

Ok, that being said, I think we might have cats for cake toppers. Win.

i haven’t seen an animal at a wedding but mrs. cream puff had her specialty drinks named after their pets. maybe you can do something like that?

    here’s her post about it:

We have two dogs and a cat so I totally get the crazy animal thing. We’ve joked about having our Basset Hound puppy be our flower girl but our other dog is too shy. I can’t wait to hear what other people are doing to incorporate their “children.”
@Scissors-I laughed out loud when I thought of how cute cats as cake toppers would be.

I agree with ms. scissors – could you have them made into cake toppers? I know there is a bee on here that makes animal cake toppers….Mrs. Lollipop! Check out her posts!

In one of the issues of MSW, the featured couple had silhouettes done of themselves…and their cats. It was the most freaking awesome thing ever to me. If you have illustrator, you can do it easily. And it’s not SO cat crazy :)

my husband came with three cats. we had artistic interpretations of our cats on our save the dates, wedding programs and little buttons we handed out at the ceremony.

i’m sure your guests won’t turn up their noses if you incorporate your *babies* in the table numbers or in any other way. after all it is your wedding and you and your honey’s personalities and interests should shine through.

+1 cat people are the best 😀 (Just look at my business name). We have 2 cats as well, unfortunately we were not able to incorporate them into our wedding. I think maybe getting cat figurines as cake toppers may be cute.

@mander411: Yes, somehow incorporating dogs, people think is ‘cute’ but cats = crazy! Ah well :)
@ariellebride: They’re brothers! And one of our registries is donations to the MDSPCA.
@Mrs. D’orsay: Aww, an orange tabby and a calico! I guess those are just a good match :) Our orange boys are HUGE.
@Miss Scissors: Yay cat people and cat cake toppers! I think Mr. GP would qualify cat cake toppers as crazy. :(
@tea: Ahahaha! Mr. GP and I just spent 10 minutes trying to figure out drinks that would be representative of each cat’s personality!! Awesome.
@Ms. Starfish: But we have three cats! I don’t know how we’d only pick two, and if we did all three, people might wonder who’s the third person getting married?

We included a picture of our cat on the photo sharing card. I made a cute little note that said something like “Sorry I slept through the festivities…please share your pictures!”

And I <3 orange kitties. My cat is orange too!

We love our cats, too! One of our cats, Luna, plays fetch too! As much as we love them, I knew that there was no way to incorporate them in the wedding. I’ve actually never been to a wedding with furry members of the wedding party, but I think it would be cute.

Mr. Pudding’s family has two cats and a dog…I am quickly realizing that I am a cat person! I love to have them on my lap when I am watching tv, or such. We keep each other warm!

    Yours are so cute!

@sboston06: ha! They would sleep through the festivities, so that’s hilariously perfect.
@Miss Nachos: Ah!! I love those! I sent the links to Mr. GP – hopefully he likes them too :)
@Miss Hamster: Yeah, Six and Buster are EACH 16 pounds!! Allie is only 7 lbs, so together they are over 4x her size! Buster thinks he’s dainty, but he’s sort of dopey. 😀

The hotel we’re staying at/having our reception at is pet friendly!!! If I wasn’t sure Baxter would tear my dress to pieces I’d seriously bring him to the hotel, but it might put a damper on wedding night fun since Baxter insists on sleeping at the foot of our bed! I’m totally a crazy cat person and it is weird because I never saw it coming until the fateful Saturday morning I met our one-eyed darling at PetSmart Pet Adoption Center!

omg this isn’t really so much an “idea” for you, just some ADORABLE pictures of a bride who loves her kitty!! I sooo wish my cats would be calm enough to do this on my wedding day.

As a person who doesn’t have animals… I have to agree with your FI! I’d totally be thinking y’all were crazy cat people! haha please don’t hate me! :)

What about taking a photo of your cats & putting it in a locket and attaching it to your bouquet? I’ve seen that done in a way to remember other family members who couldn’t make it to the wedding….

I love the idea of incorporating your cats into the wedding! I’ve considered doing framed pics of my kitty with a sign describing our dessert or signature drink or another part of the wedding.

Mr Snowflake was best man this year for a pair of dog lovers. In his best man speech he read out a message from those who couldn’t be there, including congrats from the dogs.
Maybe you could do something a bit daft like that?!
    Good luck xx

We had our cake toppers made by Nicole Clark. She also does pets! We put our pet toppers on the groom’s cake, but they could easily sit on the table next to the cake if you don’t want to highlight them too much. Now we have two very cute sculptures of our Buster and Bella to hang out on our bookcase!

Is your cat Six a polyglot? Our polyglot’s name is Sixto 😉 Love them 6 toed kittahs!

F and I are (at this first draft stage) including our animals on our save the dates, and saying something like “we hope you can join all of us…”.

What about table numbers? I love these, although it’s obviously different with cats…

And I have a picture here somewhere (on my external harddrive probably) of a couple who had their cat at the ceremony in something like was like a baby stroller for indoor kitties, it’s pretty hilarious. Did make me stop and pause for a second though…

Haha, guess I’m a crazy cat person, I have 3 cats too! I love my fur-babies, but hadn’t considered incorporating them into the ceremony. It would be so cute if you thought of a neat way to represent them somehow!

This only works if you’re a) having programs and b) are a fan of Monty Python and the Holy Grail but this is what we considered doing to include our Guinea Pig. When they’re listing the knights near the beginning they include a “Sir Not Appearing in this Film” at the end, we were going to include our guinea pig at the end of the list of wedding participants as “Sir Not Appearing in this Ceremony” with his name under it and a picture to the side(instead of the ? they have in the film). You could make it plural (Sirs Not Appearing in this Ceremony?) and put a picture of your cats.
