Crazy Cat People

December 28th, 2009 @ 2:49 pm by Mrs. Guinea Pig

Things started normally enough - I had one cat, Mr. Guinea Pig had two. Then we moved in together, and now we have three! If you thought, ‘Psh, three’s not that many,’ then you obviously haven’t met our cats (well, I guess you were introduced to Buster in my introductory post)!

(Six loves to lay on anything)

Our cats are pretty important to us, and we love them dearly. If you’ve ever made a snarky comment about ’those people’ who talk about their pets all the time, and tell stories like they’re kids… well, that might be us. Guilty as charged. But only funny stories, I swear.

(How could you not love these personal space heaters?)

And as much as they sometimes act like dogs (Buster plays fetch and knows the sit command!), unfortunately they are not outdoor cats and there is no way to incorporate them in person (in cat?) at our wedding.

Too bad we don’t have enough cats for each bridesmaid to carry one down the aisle instead of a bouquet (I kid, I kid)! I would still love to pay tribute to our three furry family members in some manner at our wedding. My first thought was to include some photos of them in the table numbers! Mr. Guinea Pig, on the other hand, immediately said, “I don’t want to be those crazy cat people who put pictures of their cats everywhere.” So now I’m on the hunt to create a very subtle tribute to our feline family members! Got any ideas?!

Have you ever seen an animal at a wedding? Will you be including your pets in your wedding?

Your cats are adorable!! We have 3 cats as well and we feel the exact same way about them, but still fear the “crazy cat people” comments. We included a note from our kitties in our program. It was cute, but subtle. We also considered “cat of the bride” and “cat of the groom” listed where all the other family is listed in the program. Since, you know, they are totally part of the family.

I’m totally interested in what other people have to say here, since I’ve fallen flat on figuring out how to incorporate my feline into the day’s festivities. However, my fiance recently referred to Catherine (named years ago, so I could call her “Cat” for short :) ) as “*our* cat”, and my heart just about melted.

I am creating a book for our guest book using blurb. It is going to include pictures of my cats along with space for people to write messages.

ohmygosh I love your kitties! adorable.

I know what you mean about being those “crazy animal people” — we have 2 dogs and 1 cat, and I’m pretty sure people think we’re nuts.

I thought about doing table numbers to incorporate them, too, but it probably won’t work. We might frame pictures of them for our “photo booth wall” as a subtle nod to our babies. :)

I love my cats! I’m an animal person totally but can only have cats where I live and am not home enough for dogs - I lovingly refer to them as Mama Goose and Babushka (aka Piper and Spencer)- Fi thinks I am nuts but I hear him talking to them too :)

It is way easier to incorporate dogs (ppl won’t think you are crazy), I’m at a loss for cats

I have been looking for ideas for the same reason. Love the bridesmaid carrying the cat idea, lol! We are doing a photo slideshow, which will no doubt be filled with us and our monsters, but I’m still looking for more ideas.

In lieu of gifts for our guests we’re donating money to the MSPCA so I’m going to make a sign with my two cats on it. That way they can be included without actually having to walk down the aisle!
By the way your cats are adorable! Six and Buster look like twins!

CAT PEOPLE ARE THE BEST!

*cough*

Ok, that being said, I think we might have cats for cake toppers. Win.

i haven’t seen an animal at a wedding but mrs. cream puff had her specialty drinks named after their pets. maybe you can do something like that?

here’s her post about it: http://www.weddingbee.com/2008/05/21/bar-menus-and-signature-cocktails/

We have two dogs and a cat so I totally get the crazy animal thing. We’ve joked about having our Basset Hound puppy be our flower girl but our other dog is too shy. I can’t wait to hear what other people are doing to incorporate their “children.”
@Scissors-I laughed out loud when I thought of how cute cats as cake toppers would be.

oh.my.lord…i actually truly wanted to carry my cat Mocha down the aisle instead of flowers…my Mom nixed that whole idea pretty quickly, which was probably for the best, but wow…what fabulous photos we would have had…

I agree with ms. scissors - could you have them made into cake toppers? I know there is a bee on here that makes animal cake toppers….Mrs. Lollipop! Check out her posts!

In one of the issues of MSW, the featured couple had silhouettes done of themselves…and their cats. It was the most freaking awesome thing ever to me. If you have illustrator, you can do it easily. And it’s not SO cat crazy :)

i’m sure your guests won’t turn up their noses if you incorporate your *babies* in the table numbers or in any other way. after all it is your wedding and you and your honey’s personalities and interests should shine through.

+1 cat people are the best :D (Just look at my business name). We have 2 cats as well, unfortunately we were not able to incorporate them into our wedding. I think maybe getting cat figurines as cake toppers may be cute.

@mander411: Yes, somehow incorporating dogs, people think is ‘cute’ but cats = crazy! Ah well :)
@ariellebride: They’re brothers! And one of our registries is donations to the MDSPCA.
@Mrs. D’orsay: Aww, an orange tabby and a calico! I guess those are just a good match :) Our orange boys are HUGE.
@Miss Scissors: Yay cat people and cat cake toppers! I think Mr. GP would qualify cat cake toppers as crazy. :(
@tea: Ahahaha! Mr. GP and I just spent 10 minutes trying to figure out drinks that would be representative of each cat’s personality!! Awesome.
@Ms. Starfish: But we have three cats! I don’t know how we’d only pick two, and if we did all three, people might wonder who’s the third person getting married?
