Mrs. Frozen Yogurt's Picture
Mrs. Frozen Yogurt, Dallas Age and Occupation: 28, Special Projects Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity Trader Engagement Date: March 19, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Marie Gabrielle, Dallas About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.

Envelope Project

December 28th, 2009 @ 3:38 pm by Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

Several weeks ago I received our envelopes from our awesome invitation designer. She had them ready so she sent them to me while she was working on printing the invites. This was great for me because it gave me some time to decorate them before the invitations arrived.

I decided long ago never to walk in anyone’s shadow… er… sorry, any Whitney Houston fans? Anyway, I decided long ago that I was going to do something to decorate the envelopes, but I was really nervous about making my own envelope liners. Primarily because I’d seen so many amazing ones around the hive; I was worried mine wouldn’t measure up and that I wouldn’t be able to pull it off. Well, I’m here to tell you that seriously, anyone can do this, even the non-crafty bride.

So, I went to Michaels and picked up some supplies. I got some scrapbook paper for my liners (I’m not sure what anyone else uses, but it was cheap, big and the right color), a glue stick, and double sided tape.

I went home and made myself a template to use for all the other liners:

Envelope Project : wedding diy stationery 1 1

(not the pattern I used… this was scrap paper)

Then I traced out 3 liners per scrapbook paper sheet:

Envelope Project : wedding diy stationery 2 2

I cut each one out (I don’t have a picture of that), and then applied the double sided tape to the top, and the glue to the rest:

Envelope Project : wedding diy stationery 3 3

(if you look closely you can see the double sided tape right around the top “roof” part)

Then I inserted each one and rubbed it to make sure the adhesive would stick, and here’s what I got:

Envelope Project : wedding diy stationery 4 4

Envelope Project : wedding diy stationery 5 5

I have several different patterns, but each one fits with our color scheme. I am super excited about how this project turned out, and I would highly recommend that if you are thinking about doing this, go for it! It was a very cheap project and I think it adds some great detail.

Did you decide to make your own envelope liners? How did your project turn out?

I ordered some discounted paper in the ideal color for my liners, but I’m a teense worried it’s going to be too thick. Is scrapbook paper pretty thin?

Yours turned out really great.

@Miss French Fries: I really wanted to go into more of the song, but I had to stop myself.
@diorable: It wasn’t too thick, but it was a little thicker than traditional envelope liners, I would guess. I’ll probably need a sticker or something to make sure the envelopes stay shut!
@Miss Pug: I know! Can you believe it??

Froyo, they look great! Thanks for explaining how simple they are…I really wanted to make envelope liners, but was pretty intimidated about the work (they look so fancy).

@Miss Snow: Me too! But I just went for it, and I’m so glad I did! I sat back and watched a marathon of Southern Belles (don’t laugh) and traced, cut and glued.
@Miss Guinea Pig: Thanks!
@Cole B: Great! I tried a couple different ways of making them stick and figured out the the double sided tape and glue stick worked the best.

Those look fantastic! How did you get them in the envelope with the glue on, without it sticking too early as it was going in?

@Miss Nachos: The glue was quick drying, but surprisingly you could move it around enough and I tried to sort of “hover” the liner over the inner part of the envelope until I was really sure I had it in the right spot. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be.
