Mrs. Spaniel's Picture
Mrs. Spaniel, Los Angeles Age and Occupation: 28, Law Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Psychologist Wedding Date: March 2010 Venue: Calamigos Ranch About Me: I'm a third-year law student trying to balance graduating with starting my career, keeping up a relationship, and, oh yeah, planning an Old World, multi-cultural, "mountain lodge" wedding for 180 guests! A South Asian Jewish girl getting ready to marry my handsome Catholic Dane, I'm hoping to blend our cultures in our wedding just a bit more gently than by providing samosas as appetizers and offering æbleskiver for dessert. (Although that would also be awesome.)
About Mrs. Spaniel

One item I never included in our more detailed wedding budget was my veil. I didn’t need to—I have a hand-me-down! It’s an ivory, elbow-length veil that my mom wore at her wedding to my stepfather this past summer.

(I’d only use the back veil, not the blusher.) It’s perfect for me since it doesn’t have any additional embellishments—I feel like my dress is embellished enough!

Still, when I saw these mantilla veil photos at The Sari-Clad Bride, I had to reconsider my commitment to the simple veil.

Too pretty, but my wallet hurts to think about trying to find something like this!

Did you find any great inspirations that you had to talk yourself down from?

I feel like this happens daily for me, and I’m at the point that I just can’t add anything else!

The two veils that you showed in your post look so divine. You really have to consider them.

I love mantilla veils. You’re so lucky to have a free veil.

Wow, I love that veil! I have a serious soft spot for mantilla veils - I swoon every time I see one, but I’ve decided it’s not worth the extra cost for me, and it would be tough to match to the lace on my dress, so I’m just going for the simplest of simple veils :) I feel your pain!

Beautiful! Could you perhaps convert your mom’s veil to a mantilla-style, borrowing from Mrs. Perfume’s tutorial?

That veil is unbelievably gorgeous. I’ve never seen anything like it!

That is like no mantilla that I’ve ever seen! The lace flows so beautifully into the fabric. Mmm.

That being said, I’m still (almost always) a bigger fan of the super-plain veil.

My stupid butt is going to try to make a veil. Let’s see how many times I fail on that one!

Right now I’m wavering between a mantilla and a basic veil. My dress has no embellishments, really, but I just don’t know what look I’m going for!

i have had to talk myself down from ever so many things. it’s a tough choice–depends on how important the veil is to you. one method i have for talking myself down is to ask myself whether i’m going to regret not splurging on X–if the answer is no (as is often is), i scratch it. so it just depends on what you want, my dear!

Oh man, I had so many times where I found something great on a blog or online and thought, “I MUST have that!” However, I eventually did what I could and let a few things go.

Wow, I can see how you’d be tempted, that is a fabulous looking veil! I think my mom or I will be making my veil, they are so expensive!
