A Site to Call Our Own

December 29th, 2009 @ 12:46 pm by Mrs. Cheeseburger

Ever since it was decided that we would be having a pseudo destination wedding, I knew that having a wedding website would be a good idea. We would need a place to provide our guests with more than just the average amount of information. Accommodations, directions, things to do, places to go - you know, the things you’d like to know when spending a weekend away.

Originally, Cheeseburger Brother was going to design our website for us, but after we started talking about everything that I wanted to go into it, we decided to just use one of the standard wedding sites with templates. I originally checked out The Knot, but mind you this was over a year ago, and they didn’t have the updated choices that are available now. After doing a little Googling, I found this site that compares basically every wedding site provider. After checking into multiple different options, I ended up selecting Wedding Window, and I’ve been very happy with that choice.

Their templates are easy to customize (I was even able to adjust the colors to our exact palette!), and managing the pages is ridiculously easy. We were able to include all of the information that we had wanted to, and the response from our family and friends has been pretty good so far. Here are some screen shots:

I spent a lot of time putting together the pages, especially the “Things to Do” page where I outlined all of our favorite places to go, food to eat, and bars to drink at. :) Here are some more pages:

A Site to Call Our Own : wedding wedding website Directi01

What are your thoughts on wedding websites - necessary or not? Which provider did you go with?

that’s great that it matches your exact wedding colors! we went with mywedding.com since it was easy to use and customize, and we liked the templates they provided.

I love your website. I don’t know if we need one since our wedding is in our hometown :(

i definitely wanted one because our wedding is quasi destination as well, and because i wanted an easy way to communicate info to guests instead of having to put everything in the invitation (we have an internet-savvy group so foregoing the invitation inserts was fine). i ended up using mywedding, but i just wanted something free and easy, so didn’t do too much research.

love your website and the colors!

Your site is precious! I am using mywedding, but I purchased a domain from godaddy so people can easily access the site (mynameandhisname.com). It was only like $15 for 2 years or something ridiculously affordable like that.
I don’t feel like the template I’m using really conveys what our wedding theme is, but I can’t find a site with any templates that really get the message across.

This looks great! In the end, we decided that we didn’t really need a wedding website, but I think it would have been cool!

Your site looks great Cheeseburger! I’m totally stealing some of the tabs you have down the sides (song requests?! great idea). Love that you made your colors match exactly :)

You did a great job! We have a pretty basic wedding website, but it does the job. Actually, I’m not even sure that people have checked it out! (…goes to check site tracker…)

I wish I knew about that comparison site when we did ours! We’re pretty happy with what we picked, but I didn’t even know half of the options that were out there.

That’s so pretty! I did our whole wedding website from scratch, and sort of gave out of steam. A lot of the info isn’t filled out, and I need to get on it!

We have a basic website through our travel agent that has a funny picture of us, basic info, and her contact number to make travel arrangements through. We included it on our STDs and invites and it definitely came in handy. Yours turned out great!

It looks great! I kinda want to make a wedding website just to make one, but I don’t really have an excuse since it’s taking place right in NYC and most of our guests are in the area.

I used Wedding Window for my destination wedding (in my home state)! I LOVE IT! I can even use log into the back end of the site on my phone to edit it. When people ask about accommodations, transportation from the airport, things to do, I just point them there. It’s so easy.

@Miss Guinea Pig: haha the sng request tab is because I’m crazy and I’m not really super keen on letting drunk guests determine our playlist :)
@tennisgal82: wedding window has been awesome! So easy to edit and add pages to - I love it!

Very nice! We included a lot of similar details on our website, since we have so many people coming from out of town.
