A Little Something Something

December 30th, 2009 @ 1:08 pm by Mrs. Nachos

I had mentioned here that one of the very few superstitions/traditions that we are following for our day is the “something old…” (you know how the rest goes). I’ve written about a few of them, but this is the first time I’m putting them all together in one place. So, the following are my something somethings:

Old: My Grandma’s wedding band

A Little Something Something : wedding accessories jewelry Grandmas Ring grandmas-ring

It makes me so happy thinking that my grandpa recited his vows to my grandma with this same exact ring about 80 years ago.

New: My dress

A Little Something Something : wedding accessories jewelry 256 2

I love this dress!

Borrowed:

Mr. Nachos’ grandma’s earrings. Although I don’t have actual pics of them, they look something like this…

Blue:

I thought the blue pendant that I got with my shoes would be my something blue, but I actually bought this a few months back (and I’m glad I did now that I know I won’t be wearing THE shoes for the ceremony). So in honor of Mr. Nachos and his family’s addiction devotion to the Chicago Cubs, this is my official something blue…

That little charm in the middle? It’s a brass baseball. :)

So again, although we aren’t following any of the wedding superstitions, I love this one and see it as more of a fun tradition. I had a good time figuring out my something somethings, but I can tell you right now, I will not have a silver sixpence in my shoe.

Are you a fan of wedding superstitions? Or, are you doing without?

Mr Nachos is gonna love your garter! That’s so funny/cute! I love the sentimental attachment with using your grandma’s ring, it’s incredibly sweet.

A girl I know had a Cubs garter, too! I actually just got offered something borrowed- my FMIL’s pearls. I am not very traditional either, but there’s some appeal to this one.

Your grandmother’s ring is just gorgeous, I’m so glad you get to wear it! And that garter is too funny :) Is it going to be a surprise for Mr. Nachos?! I have all my somethings I think, and my mom even has two sixpences she got when we lived in England and saved for the day my sister and I get married, so we can complete the verse! (something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in her shoe). Not sure how I feel about having a coin in my shoe, though!

I love your “something blue”! I plan on doing the same thing. My fiance’s favorite team is the San Diego Chargers. Where did you find your garter? I have yet to find one that’s not cheesy looking.

LOVE the Cubs garter! Wearing someone’s wedding ring is such a nice way to remember them. My husband wears my father’s, & I wear my mother’s. (I had always wanted my FH to have my father’s, but it wasn’t until my mom passed in Fall 2007 that I ever considered wearing her wedding & e-ring. She hadn’t worn them since she was married in the 50’s. I just wear my oddly-shaped e-ring on my right hand.)

Don’t forget the “six-pence in your shoe.” That is how the rhyme ends. I have clients tape a penny to the arch on the sole of their shoe. Bonus points if it is from a significant year (wedding, engagement, birth, graduation, etc).
