Mrs. Pretzel, Seattle Age and Occupation: 32 Learning, Training, and Development Specialist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28 Manufacturing Engineer Engagement Date: September 2, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Catholic Church & The Engine Room at Georgetown Studios About Me: I’m just a thirty-something girl who never dreamed of weddings, poofy dresses, or ritzy receptions. I am a rabid knitter, except recently, wedding projects have replaced my yarn and needles. I’ve been fiercely independent since the age of 2 and 30 years later I think my family and friends had given up on me settling down and getting married. Ironically, I had to go all the way to Seattle to find a boy from Purdue. We fell in love over Seattle Beers and cooking together. I love NASCAR, he loves Legos. I can talk like a Muppet and he can fit a whole McDonald’s cheeseburger in his mouth. We are a two reception couple, currently planning a brewery inspired bash.

Dressing Mama P

December 30th, 2009 @ 3:28 pm by Mrs. Pretzel

At the end of the summer, Macy’s put their summer dresses on sale. I was thinking of Mama Pretzel when I spotted an aqua three piece silk suit. I snatched it up thinking that it would make a great MOB dress, especially since it was a dressier version of a suits that Mama P likes to wear. Our wedding isn’t going to be a dressy affair, so finding a MOB dress that fits that vibe is challenging.

It needs a little altering but it’s definitely a contender. Mama P thought the aqua shell that went under the jacket was a little bit “too much” so we replaced it with an off-white shell. She also has some reservations about the fabric weight being a touch heavy for a July wedding. I will let the photos speak for themselves…

We would shorten the skirt a little

The sleeves would also need to altered.

How darn cute is the ruffle? *sigh*

But there is no alternations needed on the price tag! What a steal!

I am not sure Mama P is sold on this dress—but we have it as an option.

How long did your Mom search for a MOB dress? Did she go through more than one until she found “the one?”

Maybe the sleeves could be altered to a 3/4 sleeve- it would make it more summer-y.

My mom ordered 3 dresses from Nordstroms online. Tried ‘em all on and then returned the two losers. Her dress was a bit expensive though…but she was happy in it and looked great.

My mom is so stressed out about what to wear! I agree with @sulaii211 that 3/4 length sleeves would lighten up the jacket.

My mom is deceased, and I’m avoiding my fiance’s mom’s outfit search like the plague. I think Mama P’s outfit is cute, and while I can’t really comment on the fabric being season appropriate, I do agree with the idea of shortening the sleeves.

I like the idea of shortening the sleeves! And that ruffle is realllly cute. I think Mama P looks great in it, and will especially when the sleeves/skirt are altered!

I think that it will look great with the alterations — and also great with the 3/4 length sleeves the other bees have suggested!

My mom hasn’t even started looking yet…

You read my mind! Your mom looks great! I’m just about to post a plea for help on the boards b/c both my FMIL and mom have had THE HARDEST TIME finding something that works for them. Lots of options seem to include bolero jackets that do not look good on my mom. They both have very different body types, so I don’t think one brand/style will work for both. I’ll post on a board….

My mom has been searching for 9 months. She’s bought the same dress twice (kept it the second time). We even got shoes for it. But, she’s still looking, just in case she sees something she likes better. Oh well - I’m now having her check out dresses that will work for me for the rehearsal :-)

Your so ahead of the game! We have yet to find any contenders for Mama Pudding, and she is a picky one! Great price on a great suit!

Mama Pretzel is so cute! I love the aqua suit–with some alterations it would be a really nice MOB outfit.

Mama Cloud bought not one, or two, but FIVE dresses (and one suit) before she found the one! we decided to go with the moto that after the bride is dressed the next most important is the MOB :)

aw you’re mom is adorable! Cheeseburger Mom tried on two out-of-budget dresses, and once we got her into a more price-friendly store, the first one she tried on was “the one!” it was too cute :)

Maybe even shorten to short sleeves? Ruffles are cute though! What did she wear to our wedding? I’ll have to go look and see what style she wore then :) Hope you’re having a good “break”

I think that would look fantastic after a few alterations. I totally agree with shortening the skirt a tad. And I love the ruffle detail.
