“It’s a pretty good zoo,”
Said young Gerald McGrew,
“And the fellow who runs it
seems proud of it too.”

“But if I ran the zoo,”
Said young Gerald McGrew,
“I’d make a few changes.
That’s just what I’d do…”

-If I Ran the Zoo, by Dr. Seuss

The Mister and I have what you might call a “give and take” approach to wedding planning - he gives me suggestions, and I take them with a grain of salt.

Now don’t get me wrong - he has many a fabulous idea - I’m really excited to share what he’s come up with for our day-after brunch in an upcoming post - it’s awesome! But we do enjoy a game a rousing game of wedding chicken every so often - he comes up with an idea and sees how far I can play along until I crack - and I always do. Case in point - would y’alls like to see some of these at the Hamster wedding?

Yes. Panthers. Mr. Hammy and his coworker were discussing an episode of MTV Cribs that apparently featured caged panthers as part of a coffee-table getup. This sounds on the verge of animal cruelty to me, but the Mister thought it would be awwwwesome if we could have a pair of caged panthers flanking the aisle during the ceremony. The conversation went a bit like this:

Mr: Don’t you want our wedding to be memorable? Who’s going to forget panthers??

Me: No, I’m with you there… people will definitely remember panthers. Where would we get said panthers?

Mr: There’s like a number you can call, and they deliver them to you.

Me: Really? (Quite impressed, actually.) Okay, well what about safety?

Mr: Don’t worry, I’m sure they come with handlers or something.

Me: Oh in that case…

Despite the show-stopping potential of large wild animals growling and pacing around us during our “I Do”s, sharing a panther-wedding with the hive sadly is not in the cards. But, here’s where I could use some input, fellow bees!

  1. Anyone else planning on surprising their FH with something memorable? I had one idea in mind (I’ll be sharing it soon!) but wanted to see what everyone has planned!
  2. Has anyone seen this episode of Cribs? I’m still having a hard time believing in live panther coffee tables.

If your Mr. ran the zoo, how would it look?

This is way to funny, I have this awesome picture of you walking down the aisle with some panthers on your side. Boys can be so silly sometimes!

Oh my gosh, was he really serious?? I’d be terrified if there were any large caged animals at my wedding.

We actually are going with having pathers at our wedding…. since our wedding is at the zoo :) Love the post, having that book around is a great idea!

My idea to surprise him is not nearly as … um, exciting? … as panthers. We’re writing our own vows, and I intend to have another set prepared that are funnier and inappropriate for the family members that will be at the ceremony, but cool for those at the rehearsal.

Yikes…panthers! I wanted to surprise The Hubs by getting some members of our college marching band to play at our reception (we met in band and got married on campus). However, it wasn’t in the cards because people had already gone home for summer break. I’m keeping the idea–might have to pull it out for a big birthday or anniversary.

Haha, what a funny post!
If my Mister planned the wedding, it would have been all thrown together at the last minute, completely disorganized, and I’m sure there would have been Transformers everywhere! Oh, and lots of chocolate.

PANTHERS! LOL what a cute reference as well! Panthers lol! I honestly don’t know what my Mr. would do… he would probably have a traditional wedding which is so not like me I am bohemian afrocentric. :)

This is awesome, b/c it’s totally something Mr. French Fries would suggest. :)

It sounds like a little thing, but I’d LOVE to have Mr. KMs favorite beer at the reception. Problem is that there are very, very, very, very, very few distributors that carry it and I don’t think there’s a single one in KY. Yikes.

Ha! If Mr. GP ran the zoo, the wedding would have happened months ago, had about 10 people there, and would have been on a boat, I’m sure :) I’m not planning a surprise though, because we’re pretty terrible at keeping secrets from each other! I thought about a groom’s cake, but he’s said no to one before…

Hahhahaaha… I can’t even get Mr. S to joke about ideas. He gets horrified when I suggest something hilarious and takes me seriously!

If Mr. Peng ruled the zoo the wedding would have had lots more booze. Booze… all colors of the rainbow. It would have been very klassy.

LOL I admit I’d love to *go* to these man-planned weddings; I just don’t want that to be my own ;).

I have to say that panthers definitely beats my surprise for Mr. Library! I’m planning on surprising him with a cake shaped like an A1 bottle (his favorite condiment on EVERYTHING!) in one of his favorite flavors of cake that unfortunately didn’t make it into our wedding cake. I cannot wait to see his face!
