Asking the Button Bridesmaids…

December 31st, 2009 @ 12:56 pm by Mrs. Buttons

So… all of my bridesmaids are from out of state (I like to make my life complicated). I honestly tear up when I think about how far away I always am from my best friends! As the time came to ask them the big question, I was pondering the best way to do it! A phone call is nice, but I was hesitant to do it. Then, as I was out running some errands at Target, I wandered into the card section. It was there that I came upon the most wonderful card… and a light bulb went on! Check it out!

… And I have 4 bridesmaids… it was meant for me!

Perfect – who gets snail mail anymore? I think the cards were just beautiful, and I was able to personalize each one, recalling fond memories from our friendship. I thought they turned out great (mind you, this occurred before my DIY obsession began… so store-bought cards were all I knew at that point!!!)!

The finished product, replete with my ramblings!

So… who are the Button Bridesmaids?

Asking the Button Bridesmaids... : wedding bridesmaid gift stationery Img 202 MOH: My bestest buddy – L! We met in college through a mutual friend (and now bridesmaid) K. We all went out to dinner together one night, and K assured me that L and I would be best friends by the end of the night. She was exactly right… and we’ve been attached ever since! L is also busy planning her October 201) wedding… so exciting!

Bridesmaid K! We met our freshman year of college. We both joined the same sorority, so we were constantly at meetings and events together!!! Since college, we’ve been lucky enough to schedule some fun times together in Atlanta where she was at grad school; we always manage to have an exciting time together!

Asking the Button Bridesmaids... : wedding bridesmaid gift stationery N182006 Bridesmaid A! My beloved little sister in my sorority… we first met during my sophomore year of college. For those of you who know what I am talking about, I was busy “shopping” for littles out of potential new pledges… and I set my sights on this one! She is a red-haired clone of myself, and we always just “get” each other! She is currently at medical school… I’m pretty sure that she’s going to save the world someday.

Asking the Button Bridesmaids... : wedding bridesmaid gift stationery N18200601 Bridesmaid L! We have been friends since our freshman year of college when we pledged our sorority together. We lived together during our sophomore and senior years. We’ve had so many adventures together… from teaching her how to pump her own gas (she’s from Jersey), to jumping in the huge fountain after graduation!

Are you having a wedding party? If so, are any of your bridesmaids from out of town?

I should have found Weddingbee before asking my bridesmaids! I just asked everyone on the phone or in-person. :) None of my bridesmaids live in the same town as me, but they’re all in SoCal (convenient!).

Your girls are gorgeous! I have five girls in my bridal party, and three of them are from out of state. One of those three lives in Washington State, and I live in Maine! It’s a challenge to plan everything and keep everyone updated, but it’s totally worth it in the end.

@Miss Spaniel: Oh I would have gone all out and DIY’ed some cards if I had discovered WB at that point! I hear you!

@Ms. Library: I’ll be sure to let them know ;)

@miss mimi: Alpha Omicron Pi! :)

All of my bridesmaids are also in different states (1 in NC, 1 in FL, 1 in OH, 2 in TX) and two of our GMs are/will be stationed overseas… clearly I also love to make my life difficult. I love your handwriting, and those cards are gorgeous… much like your BMs!

I too had not discovered Weddingbee and just called my friends the next day to ask them! Sadly all of them live in completely different states but at least I have one who is semi-nearby in DC (only an hour!).

I love those cards! :) So cute. I had 3 BM and my sis as MOH. Two of the three were living out of state at the time, so I called to ask them over the phone.

@mimi06d: Thanks! Mr. Buttons says it is hard to read my handwriting…pshaw! I’ve always had comments that my handwriting is kind of “unique” haha…

@Miss Pug: Ohhh envelopes…I cringe at the thought of writing invites out by hand! Is that wrong? Haha, provide me with some wine/baked goods and I might be lured into it… ;)

@Miss Guinea Pig: You’re lucky to have at least one who is close! My MOH is in DC area right now, but it is still 4 1/2 hours away…we are having a hard time finding a date to get together, because I am a really bad/anxious traveler, especially in winter conditions.

@Jessie516: Asking over the phone is still super personal and awesome I think! I just ramble…incessantly, so I figured I’d spare them the agony ;)

those cards are cute! don’t worry about buying stuff. as much as i like to craft, there are still times i’ll buy something premade! no shame in that!

Sounds like a great group of girls! It must be hard being so far away from all of them, but great that they get to share your day.

I called each of my friends. 2 live in the same town as me, but travel ALL the time for work, so phoning it was the best option. My other one lives about 4 hours away, so compared with some of the other brides out there I guess my ladies are practically all in my backyard.

@tea: I hear you, and these cards were cute as-is…so I went with it!

@Miss Nachos: It sure is. :( We do try to schedule trips to see each other on a semi-regular basis (2x a year if we’re lucky).

I agree with you, if I had known about Weddingbee before asking my girls, I would have done something cute. Instead I called 3 of them (2 are out of state, one is 3.5 hours away) and did ask the one that lives in Dallas in person.

Wow, all your BM’s are beautiful. My MOH is out of town, actually out of state. I was her MOH though, so I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Ah! An AOPi! I joined AOPi at UC Berkeley and loved it! Love ‘meeting’ a fellow sorority sister!

I know how you feel. Each of my bridesmaids lives out of town except one, and she’s still an hour away! I gave each of my girls a silly little Hallmark card that reminded me of them and wrote a note on the inside to ask them.
