Choosing the Wedding Package

December 31st, 2009 @ 3:40 pm by Mrs. Nachos

Once we decided on the Wyndham Sugar Bay, it was time to get down to the wedding nitty-gritty. The Wyndham Sugar Bay (or WSB as I’ll call it from now on ’cause I’m lazy like that) offered 3 wedding package options on their website, complete with pricing which was really nice because we didn’t have any surprises in the end (or at least not up to this point, fingers crossed!).

Let me say, it was VERY overwhelming when I first looked at all of it, but after taking a few days to soak it all in and really truly look at it all, I decided to do a little math (with a spreadsheet, of course!). The contracts that Brian, the wedding coordinator, aka the Romance Specialist, (ha, I love that that’s his title) emailed to me had a breakdown in price of what each individual aspect would cost if paying a la carte. If added all up individually, the package prices were basically $50 cheaper than piecing it together ourselves.

When it came time to decide which of the 3 we were going to pick, we chose the Ultimate Romance in Paradise, the priciest but most inclusive.

Mr. N said he wanted to splurge because we’re only doing this once. And I looked at it as the fact that $2,650 is really not a bad price considering that it includes a photographer, videographer, musician, cake (although we took that one off), flowers, room upgrade, etc.   Basically, for a wedding and all that they include, the price is not bad if you think about what we could be paying for individual services at home!

So here’s the breakdown of costs for the wedding:

  • Ultimate Package: $2,650
  • No cake: (-$125)
  • 20% Service Charge: $505

Grand total: $3,030

*side note* I guess I spoke too soon when I said there have been no surprises – I’m REALLY happy I just wrote this post because I just now realized that the contract is wrong - we have already paid in full and they charged us for $3055. It’s not a huge difference, but that $25 that we overpaid could happily go towards my wedding day manicure or part of another bottle of champagne. :) I sent an email, so we’ll see what the King of Romance, er, Romance Specialist has to say…

Are you going with an all inclusive wedding package? Do you think it’s saving you in any way (be it money, or sanity)?

Our wedding is kind of inclusive - not the photographers and entertainment, but the food, cake, alcohol, linens, venue, and rentals are. It’s definitely a sanity saver. I’m planning from a distance too, so not having to look for a baker and linen rental company is really nice.

This seems like such an easy way to do it. Hopefully the Romance Specialist helps make your dreams come true (teeheehee, how could anyone take their job seriously if they were a “romance specialist”?)

We are dong all inclusive as well. Our package is $6,000 and includes rehearsal dinner, cake, flowers, photographer, DJ, DOC, dinner, drinks, set up and break down, a horse and carriage if I want it, toasting champagne, and a basket of goodies for us to take back to the hotel (food, champagne, etc). We decided on all inclusive for the convenience since we are planning from 1,000 miles away and because there are not a lot of vendor options where we are getting married. It also fit in nicely with our $10,000 budget. :)

I like having everything like linens, china, tables, food, transportation, DOC, alcohol, and location taken care of. It gets a lot off from my mind and into someone else’s hands! I also like the way that Mr. Nacho thinks! Go big or go home!

Wow, I think that’s a great deal Nachos! And I’m like that too about charges - when I ordered extra fabric with our BM dress order, she overcharged me by 10 dollars, but I still called to correct it :)

The fi and I went with an a la carte package. At first we were going to go with one of the hotels packages, but they either had something we didn’t want or something we wanted to add, so we said screw it, lets go a la carte!
I honestly thought that this DW would save us money, but in the end I feel like were spending just as much as a couple would here in the states/home! With a guest list of 60-70 I guess we were wrong!
Also, we’re flying in our own photogs so that in itself is a whole another HUGE EXPENSE!!

What a great deal, and I agree with Mr. Nachos, you only do this once, why not splurge a little? :)

I might be a silly one… but does that cost include a dinner or some such after the wedding? Or do you pay for that separately????

@krb: It includes pretty much anything you can think of, minus a reception so: photographer and photo album, videographer, flowers, room upgrade, officiant, DOC, musician, marriage license and certificate, champagne, honeymoon momento, gift certificate to a jewelry store, and 1 night free at the hotel. We’re STILL trying to figure out what to do after the ceremony though.
