About Mrs. Pug

Mug Shots

December 31st, 2009 @ 2:34 pm by Mrs. Pug

As of now, we are not having dancing at our wedding. I love to dance, but Mr. Pug does not. I also feel like with 50-60 people, we can get away with the dinner-party vibe without dancing. Furthermore, I worry that with such a small group that there won’t be enough people to get the dance party going. So, I guess my mom will have to miss out on me breaking it down to “Push It” by Salt n Pepa.

But I want guests to be entertained by something other than just conversation with tablemates.

I love the photobooth idea, but renting a real one is out of our budget and I’m not even sure it will fit in the room. So I’m now seriously considering a faux photobooth/instant photo guestbook.

With a “faux-tobooth” (fxbooth), a photographer takes photos of your guests in a specific area, or guests can take pictures of themselves, sometimes with an interesting fabric backdrop and/or fun props.

Cute, huh? Our fxbooth will be very DIY, as in guests will take pictures of themselves with an instant camera. We’re also thinking about having wish cards for people to fill out, and then after the wedding we can put people’s photos and wish cards together in an album.

Does anyone have tips for creating a successful DIY fxbooth?

I love these! I don’t think we are doing one, but I kind of wish we could. :)

I like these a lot but I gave the idea to my BFF who’s getting married 4 months before me so I don’t know if that would be copying too much.

I love this!! I’m going for the real photobooth, but only because I couldn’t figure out how to do it on my own. Me and craftiness are not friends, as you know. But I know cowboy boot did this and had a lot of success!

Make sure the lighting is good in the area where you set up your FTB and there aren’t unforseen shadows by doing test shots ahead of time.

I’ve been wanting and dreaming of a photobooth at my future wedding, too. I definitely experience a bit of sticker-shock when I saw the price of renting one, though.

side bar - Froyo, I’d love to hear who you are renting yours from. Is is super expensive?

I haven’t been to a wedding with a photo/fauxto booth yet, but I think it’s such a cool trend! How fun!!

We’re planning to go the instant camera route, but we don’t know how it will work out yet. No kids are invited so I don’t know if we should just set it up with no one to take the instant photos at all…will people be able to figure that out? haha! Let me know if you figure out a good solution :)

That’s a great alternative to the usual photobooth! I think you’ll end up with some great guests pictures.

@UCLAMeghan: thanks, that’s a really good point!

@Miss Guinea Pig: let’s cross our fingers that it’ll work out! we have to go look at the venue again to finalize.

@Mrs. Cupcake: just the one in the middle with the rainbow wig and big sunglasses–oh wait, is that you?? hehe.

@bohemianbailie: woohoo! yes, i got a lot of incredulous looks also, but stand strong, it’s going to be great with or without dancing!

I really hope that we are able to construct a fauxtobooth at our wedding! Right now that DIY project has been set aside until I finish other ones! I think that is very different and cool that you are nix’ing the dancing…we are going to have dancing, but I am sooo worried that people won’t join in the fun! Eeek!

Yay! I love photo booths. They have so many possibilities! If your using cloth for the background, you want it to be long enough to reach the ground.

We had one! It was the best part of the wedding.
Some things to consider:

Have lots of props. People LOVED going through them.

Make sure the lighting is good beforehand.

Have someone else take the shots, so if the shot is bad, they can automatically redo it. We had a mix of both, and the photographer shots were the best.

Decorate the area! We considered just leaving the brick wall alone, but in the end (inspired by Martha Weddings) we decorated and it really stood out in the pics.

The goofier the pics, the better! We have plenty of people just smiling, but the ones that really got into it are the best!
Have fun!

@Laylabelle: oooo! those are excellent suggestions! I am all for the faux-tobooth idea, as it will keep Miss Pug’s brother-in-law off the dance floor.
