New Year’s ‘Wed’solutions

December 31st, 2009 @ 5:06 pm by Mrs. Buttons

OK hive, I’ll admit it… I am notorious for NOT making a New Year’s resolution. This is probably due to the fact that generally, people tend to make unattainable promises to themselves or make unrealistic goals (“I’m going to go to the gym EVERY DAY…” cough cough… yeah right! For a week!).

However, I wanted to take some time to make some “Wed”solutions this year (too cheesy??), as our wedding day is swiftly approaching.

So, I’m publicly announcing to you all that I resolve to let go of the reins a little bit with the planning process.

I hate to admit it, but sometimes I can tend to be… controlling? Particular? I can be hesitant to let others help me with things because I want them done in a specific way. I know that this is something I am going to have to give up when it comes to the wedding; there is no way that I will be able to put my hand on everything! I should put my trust in the professionals (and my mom/family) to get things accomplished so that I am able to enjoy my day!

Next, I am resolving to get my little butt in gear and tackle my DIY projects. I have time (now), but I absolutely do not want to have to fold 300+ paper pinwheels on the week of my wedding!

Finally, I want to promise myself that I won’t look back on wedding decisions with regret, but to appreciate and enjoy every detail and moment that I can. It is so easy to second-guess yourself, whether it is dress regret, wishing that you selected a different menu, or wanting to change your color scheme completely. I want to be confident in the decisions that I make, focus on them, and take in my wedding day for the amazing experience that it is going to be!

What is your New Year’s ‘wed’solution?

i like the one about not regretting decisions. there are so many different ways a wedding can be wonderful, we just have to make choices and trust ourselves!

I’m with Pug on the not regretting decisions. I think that’s so important.

Good for you and your “wed’solutions”. I definitely agree with Miss Pug and Miss Fro Yo–it’s so much better to just not regret the decisions you make. You’re forced with so many decisions as a bride, so you just have to do the best you can and let it go. I know it’s easier said than done, but I really did try to do that and I think it made the actual day more enjoyable.

@Miss Pug: @Miss Frozen Yogurt: @Jessie516: Agreed! It is so hard to not change your mind 100 times. I seriously see new things every other day and I’m like, “I wish I could plan 10 different weddings for myself.” Each with different dresses, colors, themes, etc! The madness!

To not stress out to much! We’ll be having a 5 month engagement! Things are just going to have to roll with the punches.

I like your third resolution…our days will end up the way they do and I’d rather enjoy the memories than regret anything!

I like your third resolution too. I keep telling myself that the day of the wedding I am not going to fret with any could of’s or should of’s.

My new year’s resolution (as suggested by the boy this morning) is to get married this year. ;) I think I can stick to this one.

All of these are great! Mine is to try harder to get along with my mother during all the planning :)

Great post. I let go a bit a month or two ago and it has been SO much more enjoyable. My goal is a beautiful wedding, not a ‘perfect’ one or ‘the best one ever’. Way too much stress and pressure. I’m sure it will be great – yours and mine! :)

Great “Wedsolution!” I have a similar problem – but luckily I haven’t taken on too many DIY projects – I think if we went super DIY that I’d have to recruit help pronto! Good for you!

@LittleWit: Haha! I think I should add that to my list! :)

@WorstTwinEver15: I feel like I haven’t taken on toooo many…yet! But I’m sure I’ll procrastinate as usual…haha!

I love all your ‘wed’solutions, Buttons! I’m going to adopt them all as much as I can :) Especially the don’t-be-so-controlling part! I have trouble letting things go…..

Great ‘wed’solutions, Ka…I mean, Buttons! I was just thinking the other day about how I really need to “let go” a bit. I need to embrace the fact that people want to help me and trust that they will do a great job with whatever they do. It’s just so harrrddd!

Fo reals! Weddingbee is wonderful, but seeing all the awesome ideas and insanely talented bees, it’s hard not to compare and/or change ideas every 5 seconds. I need to enjoy MY wedding. I’ll work on that. :)
