Mrs. Hamster, New York CityAge and Occupation: 28, Finance GalFiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Finance GuyEngagement Date: March 9, 2009Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: The Pierre HotelAbout Me: I'm an original Jersey girl living it up in the big NYC! I love baking for others, hosting brunches, and exploring NYC with my mans. Besides Mr. Hamster (of course), I'm attracted to shiny things, bold colors, snacks, matching and coordination, pork and duck fats, miniature versions of things, corny jokes and puns. We are planning a swanky Spring wedding in the heart of NYC, followed by a second reception in Singapore. From one city that never sleeps to another - I can't imagine a more exciting ride!
For 1 billion dollars, you too can have a bridesmaid’s dress that you love
Drowning in a pile of dresses is a very real danger in a bridal salon
Don’t starve the Hamster sisters and expect to see smiles and rainbows
Thoroughly discouraged, MOH-ster and I parted ways, and I re-evaluated the situation. Thanks to many helpful comments from you lovely Weddingbee readers, I visited a few more stores and also did some major online searching of non-bridal brands. That’s when I found a serious contender.
Mrs. Scissors, LaGrange, GAAge and Occupation: 25, Photography & Graphic DesignFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Engineering Grad StudentEngagement Date: January 1, 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Ceremony - First United Methodist Church; Reception - My parents' house!About Me: I’m a six-foot-three bride with a fifty-foot personality! I love great art, fabulous design, intense color, tons of music, indie photography, watching movies on repeat, and being really awesome. This super-tall, Southern, loud, quirky, neurotic artist is marrying a German, quiet, silly, super-amazing roboticist in an eclectic, funky, fun, snazzy, technicolored June wedding. Anything is game for this shindig, for it is all about us! We’re bringing giant paper cranes, six-foot-tall portraits, fortune cookies, a photo booth, a club-circuit DJ, handcuffs, and possibly a kidnapping to this small Southern town. Watch out, y’all, and try to keep up!
All I want is you, will you be my bride Take me by the hand and stand by my side All I want is you, will you stay with me? Hold me in your arms and sway me like the sea.
Ever since we’ve been engaged, perhaps even before, I’ve wanted “All I Want is You” by Barry Louis Polisar to be played as we walk down the aisle after we’re married. (Recessional, I think, in fancy-wedding-speak.) I just think it’s perfect, magic, and, well, awesome.
Imagine being surprised as a guest as that played at the end of the wedding! Somebody singing the song up front! Instruments popping up (banjo? harmonica?) and playing it! Just fantastic.
Mrs. Cola, Mountain View, CAAge and Occupation: 27, Product Communications and PromotionsFiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Managing Partner and Senior DesignerEngagement Date: March 5, 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CAAbout Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
Bluebook is selling her Augusta Jones “Anya” gown. The off-white charmeuse dress is a size 12 on top and a size 10 on the bottom. Her wedding is in February and she’s looking to sell it after the 10th of that month. Make her an offer.

Mrs. Cheeseburger, Baltimore, MD/State College, PAAge and Occupation: 25, Medical StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Medical StudentEngagement Date: June 28, 2008Wedding Date: March 2010Venue: Catholic Church Ceremony & Hotel ReceptionAbout Me: I'm a passionate girl from Pittsburgh, currently living in Baltimore for school, who loves Penn State, seeing movies, football, thunderstorms, black and white photos, Christmas, good beer, my amazing friends and family, and of course, my mister! We met, fell in love, got engaged, and will be married at our alma mater (go lions!) in a traditional Catholic ceremony followed by a hotel reception with lots of DIY details. It means so much to have our families and friends meet at our favorite place on earth to celebrate our love for one another - I truly couldn't ask for anything more!
Early in the planning process, I had linens on the brain - continuously. Our venue provides floor-length tablecloths, table skirts, and napkins in either white or ivory for us to choose from, which is wonderful! But I knew that I wanted a little something more on our tables.
That’s when it happened. I fell in love with a girl named Sadie. Wanna meet her?
Isn’t she gorgeous?! A 90″ square overlay in plum chiffon with delicate sage and lilac embroidery; how could you NOT fall in love with her?
I’ll tell you how - when you find out that she costs $40 to rent. Times a lot of tables (probably at least 28). Plus delivery, tax, and all that jazz. Ouch. Read more…

Mrs. Nachos, Chicago/St. ThomasAge and Occupation: 33, Commercial Real Estate & HairstylistFiance's Age and Occupation: 36, Radio ProducerEngagement Date: May 22, 2009Wedding Date: April 2010Venue: Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort, St. ThomasAbout Me: I'm a happy, laid back city girl that can find the silver lining in any situation. An optimist at heart, my motto is to turn your "what ifs?" into "so whats!". My fiance is a radio producer and the biggest Cubs fan you'll meet - our apartment decor definitely shows it. He and I grew up next door to each other and because of it, we have the best home videos and easiest holiday dinners. We are planning an intimate wedding in the Virgin Islands and a cocktail party in June for 150 of our closest friends.
When I pictured myself walking down the aisle towards Mr. Nachos, in my head he was wearing the expected white linen shirt and khaki pants. The more we looked at pictures though, the more we both liked all white better.
Mrs. Pug, New York City/Half Moon Bay, CAAge and Occupation: 33, LawyerFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, dittoEngagement Date: July 2008Wedding Date: March 2010Venue: Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon BayAbout Me: The Mr. and I are two 30-somethings who enjoy tasty sweets of all kinds, our neighborhood wine store, and cuddling with our pug. NYC is where we live and the city we love, but we’re doing the deed out in Northern California. We are trying to keep the affair small, intimate, and manageable. Our motto is: the less people, the better! (I’m kidding.)
Traveling with friends/family/significant others is a very interesting and revealing experience. I believe that people’s travel habits speak volumes about their priorities and preferences. Hostels or hotels? Museums or hiking? Make reservations or just fly by the seat of the pants? Plan out every minute or just let things happen?
The thought process surrounding our honeymoon decision revealed something about our relationship dynamics. Our original plan was to go to the Umbria and Le Marche regions in Italy, and drive from town to town and stay in different agriturismos. I spent a whole lotta time researching all the cities and looking for cute places to stay.
However, the more we talked about it, the more Mr. Pug brought up doubts. But why, honey? Dontcha wanna honeymoon with me? The answer was yes, but as long as we were not at each others’ throats.
Going on a multi-city trip where we have to rent a car, drive around, and pack up and move every few days? After the hectic last rush leading up to the wedding? It might work for some couples (bless you and your ability to take it easy), but for us we knew we would be tense and stressed. An okay combination for a boxing match, not a lovey-dovey honeymoon.
Mrs. Mouse, AustinAge and Occupation: 25, Weddingbee Editor/AttorneyFiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Civil EngineerEngagement Date: December 19, 2007Wedding Date: September 2009Venue: Barr MansionAbout Me: I just graduated from law school and will be taking the bar, getting married, going on a honeymoon with my guy, and then trying to figure out what I'm going to do with the rest of my life. I was born and raised in a small East Texas town, but I'm no country girl! I'm obsessed with British accents, fantasy (including Harry Potter, of course), and classic rock. My fiance and I consider ourselves both music and beer snobs--but every once in awhile we love to hear a crappy band and drink a cheap brew or two. We're planning an eco-friendly, casual, English garden affair for the end of summer, and we can't wait for it to get here!
My board was inspired by this Eiffel Tower ornament that I bought a few years ago. As soon as I thought of it, I knew I had to create a wedding look inspired by Paris fashion.
I imagine a bride getting married in an old courthouse and then strolling along the Seine with her new spouse in this Audrey Hepburn-meets-Serena Van der Woodsen ensemble. Read more…
Mrs. Spaniel, Los AngelesAge and Occupation: 28, Law StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, PsychologistWedding Date: March 2010Venue: Calamigos RanchAbout Me: I'm a third-year law student trying to balance graduating with starting my career, keeping up a relationship, and, oh yeah, planning an Old World, multi-cultural, "mountain lodge" wedding for 180 guests! A South Asian Jewish girl getting ready to marry my handsome Catholic Dane, I'm hoping to blend our cultures in our wedding just a bit more gently than by providing samosas as appetizers and offering æbleskiver for dessert. (Although that would also be awesome.)
I probably could have benefited from a more clearly articulated vision for the wedding—I like everything I see, and I want to do all of it. As such, our wedding “theme” has been pretty ephemeral. Although I’m not sure I can briefly summarize what we’re going for, I can definitely show you!
Ms. Potato Chips, Boston/Narragansett RIAge and Occupation: 29, PhD StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Personal Trainer/Business Owner/Physical Therapy AssistantEngagement Date: January 1, 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: The Narragansett TowersAbout Me: A semi-professional bookworm, if I could be a literary character I’d be a cross between Jo March and Jane Eyre, only better accessorized and much lazier. My hobbies include sleeping in, seasonal brews, running, Trader Joe’s, and watching Unwrapped and Good Eats with Mr. Potato Chips. I harbor an irrational fear of tulle, crafts, things that are fussy, and overuse of the phrase "Your Special Day". After a year or seven together, down the aisle we go, slouching toward adulthood and planning a Rhodie party with equal parts whimsy, cheer, and pizza.
When I grow up, I want to live in a little house in a quiet New England seaside town. I want a sun-drenched studio in which to write, a breakfast nook, and a really big tub. On mild fall and spring days, I’ll hop on a scooter and zoom down to my tenure-track job at the local university. And in the summertime, I’ll fill a backpack with snacks and a copy each of Us Weekly and The House of Seven Gables, and I’ll put on my flippy floppies and take my scooter down to the beach. And we’ll putter around, me and my scooter, and life will be grand.
Mrs. Cowboy Boot, Santa FeAge and Occupation: 25, Magazine EditorFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Artist and Whitewater Rafting GuideEngagement Date: April 28th, 2008Wedding Date: October 2009Venue: Devil's Thumb Ranch, ColoradoAbout Me: I grew up in Los Angeles and have since lived in San Diego, Boston, Italy, Hawaii, New York City, and Santa Fe. I speak Italian and love pasta. My real passion is the outdoors, though. When I'm not at work, I'm snowboarding, hiking with my two dogs, mountain biking, surfing, cross-country-skiing, or boating New Mexico's rivers. Despite my boyish love for adventure, I'm a girly-girl at heart and am overly-excited to pull off the romantic, vintage-inspired, country wedding of my dreams.
Soon after the first dance and father-daughter dance ended, everyone was on the dance floor. One of our friends is a square-dance “caller”, meaning he calls the next move at square dance events, so thanks to him, everyone was having a blast dosey-doe-ing.

Mrs. Guinea Pig, Baltimore, MD Age and Occupation: 26, PhD student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Operations Director at a non-profit Engagement Date: December 25, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: The Chesapeake Bay Beach Club About Me: I'm a tomboy science nerd whose girly side has made a startling appearance thanks to wedding planning! I love to bake, knit and sew but I also ride a motorcycle (that Mr. Guinea Pig wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole). We live with our three crazy cats and love to read, travel, watch movies, and do home improvement projects together! My parents/family are Canadian but I'm definitely American, although I've lived in 5 different countries, 6 different states, and speak Russian fluently. Mr. GP and I met online (did I mention I'm a scientist?) and had a whirlwind romance - now we can't wait to get married & celebrate with all our friends and family in a blue and yellow waterfront affair!
As someone who loves to bake and eat as many baked goods as possible (I have a tolerance for sugar that some people might call disturbing), one of my favorite parts of wedding planning so far has been the cake tastings! We made sure to do most of these before Mr. Guinea Pig left for California so he would get to try the cake samples, and I think I can safely say it’s been his favorite part of the planning, too! Before we get to the insides of the cake though, let’s talk about how we want the cake to look.
Mr. Guinea Pig and I both love buttercream frosting and I strongly dislike fondant, even though I love the smoothness it gives to a cake. Mr. GP thinks fondant makes cakes look fake. So that was easy decision #1: buttercream frosting. Easy decision #2 was the shape - we both like the more traditional round, centered tiers with no crazy angles. We’re also both more inclined to do a simple cake with real flowers decorating it instead of anything too busy. Here are a couple of the photos in my inspiration gallery that we’ll be taking elements from (there are soooo many cake designs I love, it was hard to narrow it down)!

I would be remiss if I didn’t share my own experience with one of our own Weddingbee PROs—the team at StillMotion!
One of my very best friends (the one we threw the citrus shower for) married this year. We were roommates in our sorority, then in Westwood, then in Santa Monica, and finally were the two of our small group of friends to move to the Bay Area. When she and her husband finally got engaged, our conversation went like this:
Robin: We’re engaged!
Pengy: Congratulations! Have you heard of StillMotion?
Much like anyone that stumbles upon StillMotion, after combing their blog, she had a hard time believing that any other wedding cinematography would ever be good enough for her wedding. I knew if I could get any of my friends to call in the superteam from Canada, it would be Robin. Heh. Heh. Heh. My evil plan worked, and she did indeed hire them, and I had the pleasure of meeting Patrick and his traveling team this weekend in Northern California and witnessing their genius in action. I tried to prepare my table-mates by letting them know that there is a distinct possibility that they might poop their pants after witnessing what they were about to witness. After they showcased the Same Day Edit of the wedding at the end of the night, the groom jumped out of his seat and yelled,
