I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.

The Uninvited Wedding Party Member

December 9th, 2009 @ 12:36 pm by Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

So, I have this friend, and he’s a really great friend. We met in college and whenever I am with him I cannot stop laughing. We get each other’s humor, and I just know I’m going to have a good time with him. The problem? He’s a little unpredictable. And that is really just a euphemism for “gets hammered”.

A Love Story

December 9th, 2009 @ 12:13 pm by Mrs. Pudding

Hive, I’ve been holding out on you. I have been keeping a secret so huge and exciting that I thought that I would burst before I could tell you. But the day is finally here, so get ready to hear what is (in my opinion) a great love story on par with Romeo and Juliet or Anthony and Cleopatra (sans the suicides).

In order to give the story justice, we must go back in time to the early ’80s in communist Poland, where a beautiful young woman laments the loss of her sweetheart, whom she hasn’t seen or heard from in months. They had a fight the last time they talked, and she assumes that the boy has moved on, or wants nothing to do with her. She decides to forget about him. That New Year’s Eve, she meets a dark-haired and handsome man and they began to date. This new man asks her to marry him within a few months of meeting, and the girl - disillusioned with love - agrees. She believes that this man is reliable and kind; the perfect man to father her children. They marry within 6 months of meeting, and the girl sheds some not-so-happy tears during the ceremony.

At around the same time, the original boy is sitting in the army barracks. Military service is mandatory for all men, but his original 2 years of service has long come and passed. He was hoping to clear the air with the girl as soon as he got his release - he wanted to apologize to her in person.

I was born and raised in a small East Texas town, but I'm no country girl! I'm obsessed with British accents, fantasy (including Harry Potter, of course), and classic rock. My fiance and I consider ourselves both music and beer snobs--but every once in awhile we love to hear a crappy band and drink a cheap brew or two. We're planning an eco-friendly, casual, English garden affair for the end of summer, and we can't wait for it to get here!

Our Rainy-Day Wedding: First Look

December 9th, 2009 @ 11:50 am by Mrs. Mouse

The Dude and I decided a long time ago that we were going to do a first look. It worked well with our timeline, and we didn’t want to miss out on any of the fun between the ceremony and the reception!

Once MOH Deniz and I arrived at Barr Mansion, we only had to wait a little bit before Bridesmaids Kelli and Dani showed up. One of the staff members brought up a bottle of wine, and I tried to relax a bit. I was so nervous about the ceremony. The thought of standing up in front of all of those people was freaking me out just a little! Luckily I had my beautiful bouquet to distract me from my nerves.

And it wasn’t too long before the Dude showed up and our photographers got us ready for our first look. While I waited in the bridal suite, the Dude hung out on the balcony.

Firsts and Lasts

December 9th, 2009 @ 11:10 am by Mrs. Nachos

With the wedding quickly approaching, I’ve been noticing a lot of firsts and lasts that I’m having this year and it’s kinda fun discovering them as they come…

A few firsts:

  • First time I’ve ever called his mom Kathy
  • First time I’ve been called Auntie
  • The wedding trip will be our first vacation together
  • First time my parents are happy with my choice in a guy
  • First time my sisters can call their next-door neighbor their brother
  • First time I can scribble my first name with his last name and it’s actually practice, not my 13-year-old doodles on a textbook

There’s a funny side story to my paper search: Limitedpapers, the company from which I purchased the save the date and invitation paper, is in Brooklyn. I was like, “HA! Brooklyn is not far at all, and particularly not from my office in lower Manhattan. I’ll go pick those babies up and save myself a shipping fee!”

So that’s how I found myself on a Friday afternoon, in 90+ degree heat, walking an interminable distance from the subway (it was midday and no shade), in business casual clothes, to warehouses and docks on the Brooklyn waterfront. You know, the kind of place where at night you might see Vinnie with a chair and baseball bat waiting for you.

Church Decor

December 9th, 2009 @ 10:20 am by Mrs. Cheeseburger

As you might remember, we’re getting married during lent, which means we need to limit the decorations in the church. Though it’s a happy time for us, it’s a solemn time for the church, and we need to respect that.

I think lanterns lining the aisle is a simple, understated touch that we could pull off easily without offending anyone. I had saved this picture a while ago:

It was a few short hours before our ceremony, and we were wandering through the halls where had we passed notes and held hands as high school sweethearts. It had been at least 9 years since we’d been to the school, and the trip down memory lane felt a little out-of-body to me. After taking a few photos at our school library, we headed to a room that dripped with “us” memories; the chemistry room. Mr. Sunbeam and I had two classes together, math and chemistry, but it wasn’t until the end of that year that we really took notice of each other.

I love to bake, knit and sew but I also ride a motorcycle (that Mr. Guinea Pig wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole). We live with our three crazy cats and love to read, travel, watch movies, and do home improvement projects together! My parents/family are Canadian but I'm definitely American, although I've lived in 5 different countries, 6 different states, and speak Russian fluently. Mr. GP and I met online (did I mention I'm a scientist?) and had a whirlwind romance - now we can't wait to get married & celebrate with all our friends and family in a blue and yellow waterfront affair!
About Mrs. Guinea Pig

Surprise!

December 9th, 2009 @ 9:00 am by Mrs. Guinea Pig

When Mr. Guinea Pig and I first got engaged, we weren’t too concerned about the long engagement we had planned. We wanted to get married in the spring, and 16 months didn’t sound impossibly long. I also figured that with all this time, I wouldn’t stress about the planning (ha) because it would give me plenty of wiggle room for making decisions. Then, a month and a half after we got engaged, one of Mr. GP’s friends got engaged. At a big dinner with a bunch of friends, everyone asked, “When’s the big day?” and his friend responded, “June!” “Oh,” people responded, “a month after Mr. GP and Miss Guinea Pig get married?”

“No,” she replied, “ this June (4 months from their engagement).”

11 months before Mr. GP and I will get married! Mr. Guinea Pig turned to me and suddenly wanted to know why we weren’t doing that; why couldn’t we get married this past May (3 months away at that point)? I fumbled around, trying to come up with a reason more than just, ’because it will be easier to plan’.

I think part of our reasoning was that since we hadn’t been dating for that long, why not take our time being engaged? By the time we get married, we will have been fiance/e longer than boy/girlfriend! But I couldn’t shake the feeling that really, when you decide to get married, shouldn’t you be ready to get married? Why wait?

I'm fashion and beauty obsessed, and have recently discovered my inner domestic diva extraordinaire. I'm a wannabe chef, decorating addict, and trying desperately to be as crafty as possible---albeit only with a glue gun. I'm hopelessly in love with my fiance, and all things sparkly and feathery. Despite the glittery exterior, I'm a total hippie on the inside. When I'm not making up pretty faces, I love doing what I can to help people, animals, and the environment. Someday the FI and I will change the world, but first we're tackling our modern-vintage-Marie-Antoinette-meets-Alice-in-Wonderland inspired wedding. I just can't wait to be Mrs. Rainbow!

Maca(w)ron(g)

December 8th, 2009 @ 6:38 pm by Mrs. Rainbow

Since we got our guest list down to a trim three-oh, I have officially decided to take the plunge and make French macarons as favors. I’m thinking that three per person is sufficient, so I’ll be making about 90. I think I can handle it.

I’ve come to the conclusion that they are the perfect wedding favor, in my humble opinion. Not only are they delicious (and if by chance one of our guests doesn’t fancy them, I’ll happily gobble theirs up), but they’re also adorable! Just look at them:

I work full time for a Commercial General Contractor (aka my father) and I go to school for Interior Design at night. I love modern design, music, wine, crafting, DMailing, my family, my Westies, and of course, Mr Frenchie! Mr Frenchie and I met 3 years ago on Match.com and have been best friends ever since. I love his "old soul" and how he laughs with his whole body, among many other things. We are planning our summer wedding at the winery near his hometown, just 45 minutes south of Orange County.
About Mrs. French Bulldog

About 30 minutes before our ceremony, my dad drove me over to our venue. Don’t tell the police, but I didn’t wear my seat belt. I ran the newspaper headline through my head: “Bride flies through windshield on her way to the ceremony” and told my dad to drive as slowly as he needed too! We weren’t going far, but aren’t those some famous last words?

About Mrs. Pudding

I have mentioned before that Mr. Pudding and I will be married in a Catholic Church. Couples that choose to go this route quickly realize that there are quite a few hoops to jump before getting to the altar.

Catholic Adventures: First Meeting with the Priest : wedding religion Marry (source)

The first and most important one is to make sure that both parties have been Baptized, have had their First Communion, and have been Confirmed in a Catholic Church. I know that the strictness of this rule depends on the priest of a particular parish, and there are priests out there that will agree to marry a Catholic and a non-Catholic as long as they promise to raise their children as Catholic. This is not the case in my church. Luckily, Mr. Pudding comes from a Catholic family, and has all three sacraments (despite not being super religious), so this is not something that we have to worry about.

I love travel, impromptu napping, grilled cheese sandwiches, my iPhone, singing with reckless abandon in my car, and Mr. French Fries.
About Mrs. French Fries

I’ve grown accustomed to thinking, ‘We have tons of time before the wedding, no need to worry about (insert wedding detail here) now.’ The wedding has always been some far-off, in the distance event that was sort of hard to picture in my head. Remember: we got engaged over 400 days ago, and we had over 600 days between our engagement date and our wedding date. 600 days! It’s no wonder that the wedding has always seemed so far off in the distance.
