Let’s not dwell on niceties and instead jump right into wedding things, shall we? Researching stationery was one of the ways I found Weddingbee, so it’s a good place to start.
Invitations and Save the Dates are the first glimpse that guests have of your wedding, and therefore take on a certain importance–you want it to say something about the couple’s style, as well as convey the feel and tone of the wedding. In my search for invitations to purchase, I continually came across brides who had made their own invitations. Make my own invitations? I hadn’t even considered it, didn’t know it was possible (beyond writing with magic marker on posterboard).
When I saw the variety of homemade yet professional-looking invitations, I also saw a lot of the word “Gocco” flying around. This is old hat for some of you, but for those of you new to Gocco (and may have missed Miss Pretzel’s cool tutorial), here’s a short intro: Gocco is a screen printing process that allows you to create your own design for a variety of media, including stationery. You create an image on paper, make a carbon photocopy, burn the carbon photocopy image onto a screen with the bulbs provided by Gocco, and then ink the screen with whatever colors and press it down onto your media.
There are already a lot of posts regarding Gocco and the basics of using a Gocco, like Mrs. Pretzel’s posts and these videos:

Our day started bright and early because, even though the wedding didn’t start until that evening, we had six girls in a one-bedroom apartment who all needed to get ready and I was determined to not have to rush through anything so that I wouldn’t get stressed!
Because I have the most amazing lady friends ever, they volunteered to all get in the shower before me, meaning these fabulous ladies were up, showered, and had their air mattress deflated before I even woke my beauty-slumbering self up.

I didn’t have to wake up until around 8 (did I mention how much I love my bridesmaids??) and had time to start the morning off right — drinking iced coffee and snuggling with my puppy.

No, not that type of Doc, I’m talking about our wonderful and talented Day Of Coordinator, Sara Gorski!
For the longest time I didn’t think we needed a DOC, until I started really diving into the wedding planning. Everywhere I read, the #1 thing that brides said they wished they’d had was a DOC (if they didn’t have one), and the #1 thing brides said they liked best about their wedding was having a DOC (if they had one), so they didn’t have to worry about everything. And so, I started thinking that just sounded too good to pass up, and a DOC was quickly added to the budget.

Yesterday, a UPS package was waiting for me on my desk chair. I was expecting a shipment of eyelets for our programs (a story for another post!) and some gold pens for other projects. But the box was kind of on the large size for pens or eyelets, so with great curiosity I opened it. Then I closed it again so I could take a picture of it for you.
As it turns out, what was inside was Part 1 of the bridesmaid’s gifts! When we left off, I hadn’t decided between a moderately expensive (to me) pashmina for each girl, or a collection of more bridesmaid-y gifts. And lest the designation confuse you (as if Part 1 lended itself to a lot more parts)—I still haven’t decided. But even if I went all out on the cashmere, I still need something to put the gift in, don’t I?

On Sunday when I was making my sash, I had Mr. Nachos pull out his new camera because I couldn’t find mine and quite frankly, his is 1 billion times better than mine. In trying to take nice close up shots of the rhinestones, Mr. Nachos discovered the super-duper-deluxe count-your-pores zoom feature and a camera happy monster was born! He cracks me up. A few pics from the collection…

I think he’s found his calling.
If your SO took pics of your rings, where do you think he’d put them?

Although Mr. Guinea Pig and I had talked a lot about marriage before the proposal, we both wanted the actual proposal to be a surprise. Let me tell you, that is a very hard thing to do in our household as apparently we are incapable of truly keeping secrets from each other.
When we first started talking about marriage and rings in particular, I mentioned that I would love a sapphire center stone instead of the typical diamond. So Mr. GP diligently started scouring the web for ideas, sending me ring pictures occasionally to get my feedback on what I liked and didn’t like.
Then one day in September (~8 months after we started dating, if you’re keeping track), we were watching a movie and he was fidgeting like mad. Finally he turned to me and blurted out, “I got your ring, will you look at it and tell me if you like it?”
I tried to pretend I didn’t want to see it, but let’s be honest, I really REALLY wanted to see it! So, after a few overly dramatic protestations, I jumped up and down and finally said, “Go get it, I want to try it on!”
It’s hard to describe the feelings that came when he opened the box and hesitatingly showed me the ring - awe was one. Disbelief and disappointment came in next (you’re probably thinking “WHAT?”). A little factoid about myself: the only jewelry I wear every day is a watch (well, and now my engagement ring). Occasionally, if I’m doing something really fancy, I’ll wear earrings. In all our discussions of rings, I had never thought to mention that I might like something low-key, as I don’t really wear jewelry. The ring that Mr. Guinea Pig nervously showed me was HUGE!

Our wedding must have been exhausting; once our guests loaded up onto the shuttle… about half of them passed out…

except my handsome Mr. Sushi, who was just glowing. And why wouldn’t he be glowing?! He just got married to me!
Sooo… you might have noticed that every time I referred to our “reception”, it was in quotation marks.
So, I’ve discussed my purple shoes a few times already. Well, I have a problem, because I bought another pair.
You thought I loved the Boutique 9s? I thought I loved the Boutique 9s! In fact, I STILL love them. I just love these ones more. Why? Ahh, sooo many reasons. Just look to see for yourself:
After a lovely night of restful sleep, I woke up mid-morning feeling wonderful. Peaceful. Calm. It was my wedding day! I ordered a bowl of granola, took a long shower, and put on the dress I bought specifically for the way it buttoned, all the way from hem to neckline. And because it was red. And because it didn’t have “bride” printed anywhere on it.
There was a bit of a mix up over what nail salon everyone was to go to, so my mom and I ended up at places on opposite sides of town. I was a bit disappointed about this, but quickly got over it as several people worked hard to make my rough teacher hands look ladylike.
I made it to the venue right on schedule. Our stylist Meredith, of Sirens Salon, was already setting up, and our photographer was there as well.
We got started right away…
Yes, yes, you all know about my feather obsession, which I chronicled here, aaand since you’ve also seen my dress, here, you already know that there are no feathers on that. Soo… what exactly am I doing with feathers, you might ask? This:
Oooh, aaaaah, that’s right, hive! I’ll be rocking feather eyelashes down the aisle. Exciting huh? I’ve been searching everywhere for the perfect pair and…
This spring I was working on wedding-related tasks with my trusty old Sony Vaio. Sure, it was heavy… and pretty clunky/slow… and I always had to use it plugged in because the battery life on it completely sucked…and it practically set my lap on fire if I set it directly on my thighs for longer than 3 minutes at a time. But, hey…it was paid for, and it served its purpose really moderately not really all that well.
If you’re reading carefully, however, you’ll note that I said “was working”. Yes, it’s true. My Vaio has since died a relatively quick death. All I did was download one measly font from a potentially shady online source… and poof! My laptop would not turn on. It had the black screen of death, permanently. It was finished. Finito. And, really… I wasn’t in a huge hurry to give it resuscitation (other than for my photos and .mp3s). Why, you ask?
I had my eye on another laptop, you see. One that was shinier. More powerful. One not as susceptible to the pesky viruses that had claimed my Vaio’s life. And one that was so, so pretty. A MacBook Pro. I had been keeping an eye on them for over a year and a half, but couldn’t justify spending the money on one while my Vaio was still functional. But now! Now a whole new window of Apple-tunities was open!

I know I should be finishing my recaps, but my computer is broken – and my Blackberry isn’t advanced enough to be able to resize pictures.
So, they are on pause until I make up my mind about what kind of computer I want. Anyways, the point of the story is this:
My loving husband came home with what he dubbed ‘Wedding Ice-Cream’.
He really had me at ice cream, but wedding ice cream sounded like a huge bonus. As I manhandled the shopping bag from him I saw this inside:

Every time I log into WeddingWire.com I see the following list of to do tasks:
Adding insult to injury, the due date of all of these tasks? October 2009. Whoops… I’d love to report that we’re well on our way to checking these off the list—but we are currently in paralysis mode.
Mr P and I both lovey love us some live music. We are 95% sure we want a band at the wedding. The 5% uncertainty? Neither of us has been to a wedding with a live band. Nor has either of us been to a Prom/Dance/Function with a live band. We have absolutely no idea what it would be like.
Further complicating this, I have a hankering for some old school hip-hop…

To ask you to Save the Date!
We finally sent out our Save the Dates! This morning!
I would give a big “PHEW,” but there are actually a couple more addresses we need to track down. Oh, how I wish I could cross this off my To-Do list. It’s been on there forrrever.
As you know, we wanted to include a short poem to tell people, “Hey, I’m a magnet. Don’t throw me away!” Here’s what they’ll see when they open the envelope:

And when they start to take out the magnet:
