Who knew Twitter would play such a role in planning our wedding?
After reading a post from Mrs. D’orsay about following her vendors on Twitter, I decided to track down my vendors (two of whom happen to be the same as hers, so that was easy - thanks Mrs. D’orsay!).
That move turned out to be a good idea, as it’s how I decided on our Save-the-Dates!
Well, maybe decided is too strong a word.
But now we had a direction to go in! Back in September, I looked at my to-do list and thought, ‘Yikes! If we want to send out Save-the-Dates in October, we have to get moving on those!’ I posted my thoughts on Twitter, and asked if anyone had any ideas. A few hours later, our officiant replied with: “Since April showers bring may flowers, maybe ’plantable save the date cards’ that turn to flowers.”
Genius! Guests can hold onto the cards as a reminder until we send out our invitations, which will be the perfect time to plant them for spring flowers! Not just that, but the ’flowers’ theme seems to be popping up (pun totally intended) everywhere in our wedding, from the invitations (which I will show you down the road when we send them out), to the paper flowers I’m folding, to the stamps I have for embossing things (I haven’t decided what, yet)!

Lately I’ve found that a lot of my free time is spent reading other people’s wedding blogs and going on wedding forums, giving and getting advice, and seeing how other people are planning their big day.
Most things I’ve come across are pretty standard when it comes to planning – finding a dress, coming up with a color scheme, food tastings, etc.
A few things have surprised me – I learned all about the Diva Cup which I’ve never heard of before. If you are like me and haven’t heard of this apparatus, feel free to Google it.
Then I stumbled upon an idea that makes total perfect sense, but I never thought of it before… the stand-in ring (or clone, or twin, or whatever you want to call it)!

A fellow wedding blogger talked about her stand-in that she picked up for around $20.

So, I won’t be blogging on most of the bridesmaid gifts until after the wedding, since I want them to be a surprise, but since my sister already knows about these, I thought I’d share! I found these cute short sleeve hoodies from Old Navy for $12.99 each, so bought three in purple and one in white.
They have a cute distressed look, and are a soft microfiber material, plus they zip off, so they will be perfect for getting ready without messing up hairdos on the morning of the wedding.
I then got embellishments with everyone’s initial and a flower from TwinklinTransfers on eBay, for $5.49 each (and they do combined shipping for more than one item).

Robinwat is selling her Alvina Valenta 9860 gown. The “creme” (champagne-colored) slim A-line dress is a size 8 and is made of silk duchess satin. She’s asking $1100.

For pretty much the whole time I’ve been planning a wedding (going on a whole year, now!), I’ve intended to “do” my own centerpieces by sticking a candle in a vase and calling it a day, à la this image:

Simple. To the point. And, most of all, cheap.
But the tables at my venue are really big, and one candle is really small. I considered floral collars, but wasn’t really sold on anything until I visited with a florist and saw something similar to this:

Oh my gosh, I can’t believe how long it has been since my last post! Time flies way too fast. Over the past few months, we’ve had some good news, and bad news, and back to good news again. We heard news that my dad, who was battling neck cancer during our engagement and was still receiving chemo treatments on the day of our wedding, has received the green light from the doctor that there was no longer any sign of cancer. Just a few weeks later however, he was informed that his colon cancer (that he battled 10 years ago) had come back. To make a long story short, there was more stress and worry, but after a five hour surgery, he is now back home and recovering. I swear, my dad must have nine lives. We truly had a lot to be thankful for this year.
Mr. Martini and I were sitting around talking about our wonderful marriage so far, and how fast the year has gone by since our wedding in March, and all the good and bad things that have happened to our family and friends, and the hilarious things that happened at our wedding… and I suddenly realized that I never completed my recaps. So here I am back again, with pictures!
Below are some pictures of our ceremony:

Guess who is in Pittsburgh?! Audrey! My dress!
While I loved her when I ordered her 6 months ago (in white, and after barely being able to get the sample onto my body), I reeeeeeeeeaaaalllly love her a lot now. I surprised Cheeseburger Mom & Cheeseburger SisterMOH with a visit to Anne Gregory to try on my dress. It was, as always, a magical visit. We love the store and the family that owns and runs it.
Greg greeted us at the door and brought me to the back to meet her in person. She. Was. Perfect. Her ivory satin is to-die-for. For some reason, satin is just bridal to me (though it is pretty heavy and warm, which is why I think brides wear it less often now .
The color is exactly what I wanted. The buttons are amazing. The pleats (!) are perfect.
AND she FIT with lots of room to spare!
Enough talk, ready to see? (Avert your eyes, Burger.)

It’s my pleasure to introduce our newest bee, whose charming wit and humor has captured my heart for quite some time! Please join me in welcoming Miss Pug to the hive!

Fiance’s Age & Occupation: 32, ditto
Engagement Date: July 2008
Wedding Date: March 2010
Venue: Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay
About Me: The Mr. and I are two 30-somethings who enjoy tasty sweets of all kinds, our neighborhood wine store, and cuddling with our pug. NYC is where we live and the city we love, but we’re doing the deed out in Northern California. We are trying to keep the affair small, intimate, and manageable. Our motto is: the less people, the better! (I’m kidding.)
I broke down the pricing on our bouquets and boutonnieres for you, so I wanted to finish our floral budget breakdown with our centerpieces. And, since I just showed you the details of our reception, I thought fleshing out our flowers would be the most organic next step on this recap train.

It’s official: we’re going with a band for our wedding entertainment. And I am so. so. pumped.
If you remember, I was having some trouble making a decision about whether to go with a band or a DJ. Deep in my heart, I knew I wanted a band but being able to reconcile spending the serious amount of cash-money-what-what that would be necessary was not an easy task.
Actually, I initially couldn’t do it and started researching DJs, determined to find a non-cheesy one who would let me micro-manage the music (yes, I’m a control freak and picky about what I want to dance to!). We spoke with a few I found recommended on The Knot, compared prices, and felt ready to make a decision.
And then… and then… FFIL Trail Mix got word that we were planning on booking a DJ and generously insisted that he cover the cost of a band instead. Yippee!
We knew immediately who we wanted.

When I left you last, our rehearsal dinner guests were heading out the door. But the night wasn’t quite over yet! The Dude and I decided not to spend the night apart, so we curled up in bed and got excited for the next day: our wedding day. But first, we decided to do a practice run of our first dance—we had literally done nothing up to this point besides pick out a song. So with “our song” playing quietly out of the Dude’s computer, we practiced our dance on the carpet of our bedroom. It didn’t go so well (the tempo was a bit slower than we realized), and I started to get nervous for the next day—but the Dude assured me it would be OK, so we decided to just go with it.
Here we are the next morning, before I headed off for my appointment at the salon. The Dude is playing with a Transformer he received as a wedding gift!
I haven’t talked about our photographer yet, but sadly in the beginning of September, we found about an unbelievable tragedy. On a Wednesday afternoon in early September, our photographer Arthur Remanjon was killed in a motorcycle accident.
Mr. Guinea Pig and I booked Arthur well over a year before our wedding - photography was the most important thing to us, and we wanted to get it nailed down before our top choices were booked. We ran through so many photographers’ websites they were starting to blur together, but when we finally sat down to write our ranked list, Arthur came in number one for both of us. We immediately called to make an appointment, met with Arthur at his studio a week later and booked him the next day.
Our first meeting was so much fun - Arthur immediately put us both at ease, and even managed to make me want to have my picture taken (no small feat). He was funny, down to earth, and knew exactly what we were going for in our photos. He had years of experience and his portfolio was filled with photos I loved:

Wanna guess what the easiest purchase has been this entire wedding planning process? Mr. Cola’s outfit for our after party! Seriously, nothing could have been easier. I, of course, will be wearing something much cuter, along the lines of a white sundress (which I’ll share with you once I find The One). But for him, it was easy, fo-sheezy (uh, yeah, his words, not mine).
So, wanna see?

By now I’m sure most of you have see the YouTube video of the groom who updates his Facebook status DURING his wedding.
If you haven’t seen it here it is:
This video reminded me of a similar video I saw shortly after I met Melissa McClure. If you remember, she Tweeted at her wedding.
