I love great art, fabulous design, intense color, tons of music, indie photography, watching movies on repeat, and being really awesome. We met, fell in love, got engaged, and will be married at our alma mater (go lions!) in a traditional Catholic ceremony followed by a hotel reception with lots of DIY details. It means so much to have our families and friends meet at our favorite place on earth to celebrate our love for one another - I truly couldn't ask for anything more!
I already mentioned our out of town boxes and their physical contents, but I’ve recently gotten the paper goods together as well.
First, the monogram tags for the outside of the boxes:

Mrs. Mouse, AustinAge and Occupation: 25, Weddingbee Editor/AttorneyFiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Civil EngineerEngagement Date: December 19, 2007Wedding Date: September 2009Venue: Barr MansionAbout Me: I just graduated from law school and will be taking the bar, getting married, going on a honeymoon with my guy, and then trying to figure out what I'm going to do with the rest of my life. I was born and raised in a small East Texas town, but I'm no country girl! I'm obsessed with British accents, fantasy (including Harry Potter, of course), and classic rock. My fiance and I consider ourselves both music and beer snobs--but every once in awhile we love to hear a crappy band and drink a cheap brew or two. We're planning an eco-friendly, casual, English garden affair for the end of summer, and we can't wait for it to get here!
I hope everyone had a great holiday! I spent mine relaxing in the snowy Rocky Mountains with the Dude and his family. Why can’t vacations last forever?
Anyway, recaps are back on! Here are some more of my favorite bride-and-groom portraits of the day.
Mrs. Cola, Mountain View, CAAge and Occupation: 27, Product Communications and PromotionsFiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Managing Partner and Senior DesignerEngagement Date: March 5, 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CAAbout Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
Quite a while ago I lamented over what to do for our table numbers. Luminaries wouldn’t work because it would still be pretty light outside at dinner time, and I just wasn’t too excited about anything that I’d seen in the way of table tents or metal holders. Frames didn’t really work for the feel of the tables either, and pretty much the only thing I’d seen that I liked was a plain and simple number, thanks to Martha:
Mrs. Nachos, Chicago/St. ThomasAge and Occupation: 33, Commercial Real Estate & HairstylistFiance's Age and Occupation: 36, Radio ProducerEngagement Date: May 22, 2009Wedding Date: April 2010Venue: Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort, St. ThomasAbout Me: I'm a happy, laid back city girl that can find the silver lining in any situation. An optimist at heart, my motto is to turn your "what ifs?" into "so whats!". My fiance is a radio producer and the biggest Cubs fan you'll meet - our apartment decor definitely shows it. He and I grew up next door to each other and because of it, we have the best home videos and easiest holiday dinners. We are planning an intimate wedding in the Virgin Islands and a cocktail party in June for 150 of our closest friends.
I mentioned before that at our home party venue, we pretty much have free reign over how much or how little we want to decorate. At first, I figured a few strand of white Christmas lights out on the patio would be my contribution. Then I started thinking about making it more ‘us’. And just then as I was trying to think of ways to spruce the venue up a bit, I got a sign. As a featured classified, this popped up…
See that last one? Teardrop acrylic crystals. Hmm, I could definitely use those on some sort of centerpiece. I quickly emailed the person selling them and she gave me a picture… Read more…
Mrs. Spaniel, Los AngelesAge and Occupation: 28, Law StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, PsychologistWedding Date: March 2010Venue: Calamigos RanchAbout Me: I'm a third-year law student trying to balance graduating with starting my career, keeping up a relationship, and, oh yeah, planning an Old World, multi-cultural, "mountain lodge" wedding for 180 guests! A South Asian Jewish girl getting ready to marry my handsome Catholic Dane, I'm hoping to blend our cultures in our wedding just a bit more gently than by providing samosas as appetizers and offering æbleskiver for dessert. (Although that would also be awesome.)
Mrs. Pug, New York City/Half Moon Bay, CAAge and Occupation: 33, LawyerFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, dittoEngagement Date: July 2008Wedding Date: March 2010Venue: Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon BayAbout Me: The Mr. and I are two 30-somethings who enjoy tasty sweets of all kinds, our neighborhood wine store, and cuddling with our pug. NYC is where we live and the city we love, but we’re doing the deed out in Northern California. We are trying to keep the affair small, intimate, and manageable. Our motto is: the less people, the better! (I’m kidding.)
In looking for a hair and makeup artist (”MUA”), I had to find someone close enough to Half Moon Bay so that the travel fee didn’t equal the cost of a kidney (which I assume is pricey).
The first place where I had a trial was very close to our venue. After my trial, I had that kind of experience where at first you’re okay with it (b/c you really want it to be okay), and then the more you think about it the more problems you realize there were, and then after a while you’ve worked yourself into a frenzy where you’re on the phone with your mom shouting, “No good! No good!”
Look at the bun she made. It’s an okay bun, but… just a bun.
Mrs. Buttons, Clearwater, FLAge and Occupation: 24, "Working on it"Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Financial ServicesEngagement Date: June 13, 2009Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: Carlouel Yacht ClubAbout Me: I'm a self proclaimed perfectionist and a professional nomad (seriously, I've lived in TX, WI, MI, FL, NC, and now VA!). I love wine, cooking, curling up with a good book (nerd alert!), spoiling the furbaby, and of course, the wonderful Mr. Buttons! We are planning a lighthearted and whimsical wedding (with a good deal of DIY projects) in Clearwater, Florida, but from a distance of 800 miles away! We are looking forward to sharing our day with our family and friends, and most importantly, starting our lives together as husband and wife!
Mid-October marked the one-year anniversary of the Buttons’ first date. Ah, so if you begin to do the math you realize… Mr. Buttons and I have only been together for a little over a year at this point, and we’ve been engaged for 6 of those months. So yes… we dated for only 8 months before he proposed!
I suppose you could say that we had a whirlwind romance, but nothing about it was rushed. Read more…
Mrs. Guinea Pig, Baltimore, MD Age and Occupation: 26, PhD student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Operations Director at a non-profit Engagement Date: December 25, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: The Chesapeake Bay Beach Club About Me: I'm a tomboy science nerd whose girly side has made a startling appearance thanks to wedding planning! I love to bake, knit and sew but I also ride a motorcycle (that Mr. Guinea Pig wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole). We live with our three crazy cats and love to read, travel, watch movies, and do home improvement projects together! My parents/family are Canadian but I'm definitely American, although I've lived in 5 different countries, 6 different states, and speak Russian fluently. Mr. GP and I met online (did I mention I'm a scientist?) and had a whirlwind romance - now we can't wait to get married & celebrate with all our friends and family in a blue and yellow waterfront affair!
Now that we know our rehearsal will definitely be taking place the Friday afternoon before the wedding (there was a chance it would be Thursday), it’s time to think about the rehearsal dinner!
Luckily for me, the thinking here is going to be done primarily by Mr. Guinea Pig’s parents, as they have generously offered to host the dinner. Mr. GP’s twin sisters started at university this year, and the drive there goes right by our venue - how convenient! That means FIL Guinea Pigs have had several opportunities to check out the restaurants in our venue/hotels area. At first, they figured on a sit-down dinner since we’re doing buffet for the wedding, and checked out the fanciest place on the island. They were obviously a little uncomfortable with the stuffiness of it but thought it was the ’right thing’ for a rehearsal dinner, and ran the choice by us. Fortunately, Mr. Guinea Pig and I convinced them that the rehearsal dinner in no way had to be formal! In fact, we’d much prefer a more relaxed atmosphere, which opened up lots of other possibilities.
A couple weekends ago Mr. Guinea Pig was home and we had dinner with his parents. They mentioned a restaurant they had really enjoyed, and said, “But if we did the dinner here, it would be more of a crab feast style, so I don’t know about that.”
Mrs. Trail Mix, New YorkAge and Occupation: 26, PE TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, MBA StudentEngagement Date: March 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Tannery Pond at the Darrow SchoolAbout Me: I'm a country girl who somehow found herself living in the Big Apple and loving every minute of it. I'm planning a rustic, country-chic wedding in my hometown in upstate New York and it's going to be a Party with a capital P. White wine, flea markets and running keep me happy and my friends, family and fiance are my world. I'm a little bit crafty, a little bit crazy but mostly just crazy in love.
I’ll admit, I haven’t put too much thought into the “Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue” tradition, but sometimes things just have a funny way of working themselves out on their own.
The “new” part of this tradition is easy. My dress, shoes and undergarments are all new. Done. I checked it off the list and moved on.
Truthfully, I didn’t really care if I ended up with the entire new, old, borrowed and blue traditions. I thought about painting my toenails blue (seriously) but my bridesmaids immediately vetoed that idea. I could wear blue undies but I was worried they might show under my dress.
But after I bought my dress, I started thinking about accessories. And then an idea popped into my head that was the solution to all three of the other “somethings”. Mama Trail Mix has a pair of earrings that were originally her mother’s (who is no longer with us). They are delicate, gold chandelier earrings with a small blue flower inlay design at the bottom. Here were my somethings old, borrowed and blue, all in one!
I’m really excited to wear them because my mom has never let me borrow them before, even though I’ve loved them since I was little.

I love travel, impromptu napping, grilled cheese sandwiches, my iPhone, singing with reckless abandon in my car, and Mr. French Fries.
One of the most common New Year’s resolutions is to lose weight. Every January, people from coast to coast join their local Bally’s and proceed to work out like maniacs, likely burning out before the New Year’s Eve confetti has been swept off the floor.
I will admit that I am ushering in a new year and also a resolution that is weight-related. Facing a walk down the aisle in a curve-hugging gown, and a 9-day honeymoon where I will most likely need to don a swimming suit are huge motivators. Read more…

Ever since it was decided that we would be having a pseudo destination wedding, I knew that having a wedding website would be a good idea. We would need a place to provide our guests with more than just the average amount of information. Accommodations, directions, things to do, places to go - you know, the things you’d like to know when spending a weekend away.
Originally, Cheeseburger Brother was going to design our website for us, but after we started talking about everything that I wanted to go into it, we decided to just use one of the standard wedding sites with templates. I originally checked out The Knot, but mind you this was over a year ago, and they didn’t have the updated choices that are available now. After doing a little Googling, I found this site that compares basically every wedding site provider. After checking into multiple different options, I ended up selecting Wedding Window, and I’ve been very happy with that choice.
Their templates are easy to customize (I was even able to adjust the colors to our exact palette!), and managing the pages is ridiculously easy. We were able to include all of the information that we had wanted to, and the response from our family and friends has been pretty good so far. Here are some screen shots:
Keep on loading your inspirational wedding pics to the gallery to see them featured here on the blog! Remember, your images must be under 1MB in size, or they won’t load.
