Mrs. Frozen Yogurt, Dallas
Age and Occupation: 28, Special Projects Coordinator
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity Trader
Engagement Date: March 19, 2009
Wedding Date: April 2010
Venue: Marie Gabrielle, Dallas
About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.
Several weeks ago I received our envelopes from our awesome invitation designer. She had them ready so she sent them to me while she was working on printing the invites. This was great for me because it gave me some time to decorate them before the invitations arrived.
I decided long ago never to walk in anyone’s shadow… er… sorry, any Whitney Houston fans? Anyway, I decided long ago that I was going to do something to decorate the envelopes, but I was really nervous about making my own envelope liners. Primarily because I’d seen so many amazing ones around the hive; I was worried mine wouldn’t measure up and that I wouldn’t be able to pull it off. Well, I’m here to tell you that seriously, anyone can do this, even the non-crafty bride.
So, I went to Michaels and picked up some supplies. I got some scrapbook paper for my liners (I’m not sure what anyone else uses, but it was cheap, big and the right color), a glue stick, and double sided tape.
I went home and made myself a template to use for all the other liners:

(not the pattern I used… this was scrap paper)

Mrs. Hamster, New York City
Age and Occupation: 28, Finance Gal
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Finance Guy
Engagement Date: March 9, 2009
Wedding Date: May 2010
Venue: The Pierre Hotel
About Me: I'm an original Jersey girl living it up in the big NYC! I love baking for others, hosting brunches, and exploring NYC with my mans. Besides Mr. Hamster (of course), I'm attracted to shiny things, bold colors, snacks, matching and coordination, pork and duck fats, miniature versions of things, corny jokes and puns. We are planning a swanky Spring wedding in the heart of NYC, followed by a second reception in Singapore. From one city that never sleeps to another - I can't imagine a more exciting ride!
Hi bees! Hope you all had a great holiday - the Mister and I spent some long-needed vacation time cruisin’ in the Caribbean aboard this:

Mrs. Guinea Pig, Baltimore, MD
Age and Occupation: 26, PhD student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Operations Director at a non-profit
Engagement Date: December 25, 2008
Wedding Date: May 2010
Venue: The Chesapeake Bay Beach Club
About Me: I'm a tomboy science nerd whose girly side has made a startling appearance thanks to wedding planning! I love to bake, knit and sew but I also ride a motorcycle (that Mr. Guinea Pig wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole). We live with our three crazy cats and love to read, travel, watch movies, and do home improvement projects together! My parents/family are Canadian but I'm definitely American, although I've lived in 5 different countries, 6 different states, and speak Russian fluently. Mr. GP and I met online (did I mention I'm a scientist?) and had a whirlwind romance - now we can't wait to get married & celebrate with all our friends and family in a blue and yellow waterfront affair!
Things started normally enough - I had one cat, Mr. Guinea Pig had two. Then we moved in together, and now we have three! If you thought, ‘Psh, three’s not that many,’ then you obviously haven’t met our cats (well, I guess you were introduced to Buster in my introductory post)!

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 36, Radio Producer
Engagement Date: May 22, 2009
Wedding Date: April 2010
Venue: Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort, St. Thomas
About Me: I'm a happy, laid back city girl that can find the silver lining in any situation. An optimist at heart, my motto is to turn your "what ifs?" into "so whats!". My fiance is a radio producer and the biggest Cubs fan you'll meet - our apartment decor definitely shows it. He and I grew up next door to each other and because of it, we have the best home videos and easiest holiday dinners. We are planning an intimate wedding in the Virgin Islands and a cocktail party in June for 150 of our closest friends.
I’ve had something on my mind that I always think about when I go on vacation. To most people, it doesn’t sound like a scary prospect, but bear with me here. I am one of those girls that always wears makeup. I promise, it’s not a vanity thing for me, it’s more of a ‘I’ve been wearing makeup for so long that I don’t think people would recognize me if I didn’t’-thing. I think a lot of it also has to do with the warping of my mind after working in salons for so long, where you are expected to have a certain image. The salon mentality has always been: if you don’t look presentable, your client will not trust that you can make them look presentable. Hence, for 9 years now, I’ve been surrounded by makeup, hair products, perfume, pretty much anything related to making yourself look and feel and smell good.
I also have a little secret. I can’t believe I’m posting this for all of you to see, but this was my 8th grade picture…

Mrs. Pretzel, Seattle
Age and Occupation: 32 Learning, Training, and Development Specialist
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28 Manufacturing Engineer
Engagement Date: September 2, 2009
Wedding Date: July 2010
Venue: Catholic Church & The Engine Room at Georgetown Studios
About Me: I’m just a thirty-something girl who never dreamed of weddings, poofy dresses, or ritzy receptions. I am a rabid knitter, except recently, wedding projects have replaced my yarn and needles. I’ve been fiercely independent since the age of 2 and 30 years later I think my family and friends had given up on me settling down and getting married.
Ironically, I had to go all the way to Seattle to find a boy from Purdue. We fell in love over Seattle Beers and cooking together. I love NASCAR, he loves Legos. I can talk like a Muppet and he can fit a whole McDonald’s cheeseburger in his mouth. We are a two reception couple, currently planning a brewery inspired bash.
… a beer tasting…
and walk out with a catering contact for a wedding they haven’t started planning yet. Easy-peasy-done. Sometimes it seems too easy—but really, that was the extent of our search for a caterer.

One of our ushers invested in a local micro-brewery, Two Beers. A complete shocker, I know! Around May of last year he invited us to a beer tasting. We arrived at the location, which happened to be the City Catering Company’s Little City space. The tasting was part of a series where City Catering teams up with a local micro-brewery and pairs the brewery’s beer with complimentary food.

Mrs. Lamb, Norfolk
Age and Occupation: 25, Homeland Security Consultant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Graduate Student
Engagement Date: January 2009
Wedding Date: January 2010
Venue: Trinity Presbyterian Church/Harrison Opera House
About Me: I’m a Homeland Security Consultant with a tendency towards pulling office pranks, taking lunch breaks, and drinking Wawa shakes. I’m also an English major with a serious obsession with alliteration and rhymes. While I’m not keeping America safe, I’m training for half marathons and the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Or moving for the third time this year. Or baking. Or wedding crafting. Or crying about wedding planning. All the while, I’m getting myself into Lucille Ball-esque scrapes and making Jim Carey-esque faces. Our big fat Czech/Baptist/Jewish/Italian wedding is a combination of vintage eclectic, DIY, and little spoonful of sugar from our Event Coordinator. It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!

Mrs. Cheeseburger, Baltimore, MD/State College, PA

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Medical Student
Engagement Date: June 28, 2008
Wedding Date: March 2010
Venue: Catholic Church Ceremony & Hotel Reception
About Me: I'm a passionate girl from Pittsburgh, currently living in Baltimore for school, who loves Penn State, seeing movies, football, thunderstorms, black and white photos, Christmas, good beer, my amazing friends and family, and of course, my mister! We met, fell in love, got engaged, and will be married at our alma mater (go lions!) in a traditional Catholic ceremony followed by a hotel reception with lots of DIY details. It means so much to have our families and friends meet at our favorite place on earth to celebrate our love for one another - I truly couldn't ask for anything more!
Two years ago, before I started reading wedding blogs, I never even would have known that this item existed. It is totally unnecessary, but absolutely, incredibly beautiful nonetheless. It is elegant, classic, and architectural, yet soft. It comes in a variety of wonderful colors. It makes me swoon.
However, it is also expensive. Very expensive. And probably will have much less of an impact on the look of the reception than, say, the addition of lighting. Oh and did I mention that it’s unnecessary?
What is this amazing item?
It’s a chair.
Yes, a chair.
A chivari chair, to be specific. Take a gander at this beauty:

Mrs. Buttons, Clearwater, FL

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Financial Services
Engagement Date: June 13, 2009
Wedding Date: May 2010
Venue: Carlouel Yacht Club
About Me: I'm a self proclaimed perfectionist and a professional nomad (seriously, I've lived in TX, WI, MI, FL, NC, and now VA!). I love wine, cooking, curling up with a good book (nerd alert!), spoiling the furbaby, and of course, the wonderful Mr. Buttons! We are planning a lighthearted and whimsical wedding (with a good deal of DIY projects) in Clearwater, Florida, but from a distance of 800 miles away! We are looking forward to sharing our day with our family and friends, and most importantly, starting our lives together as husband and wife!
Wow. For as verbose as I typically am, I’m officially at a loss for words. This is just ridiculous!
Well, let’s start off with something simple: HELLO hive! I am so incredibly overjoyed to be here, words can’t even explain! And honestly, this could not have come at a better time. I was already excited about this past week (who doesn’t love some holiday cheer?), but this was the Christmas present I was secretly hoping Santa would bring me! Well, OK, so it was Mrs. Penguin who actually did the gift giving, and if you want to be technical about it, penguins are only native to the south… I’m just going to consider her my South Pole Santa this year!
So, I suppose you’d like to know a little bit about me, perhaps? To start, I’m a professional nomad… I feel like I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve moved, but it is around 15-ish…

Mrs. Cola, Mountain View, CA

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Managing Partner and Senior Designer
Engagement Date: March 5, 2009
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CA
About Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
Warning, this post contains A LOT of pictures of me, including an unsightly one of me without any makeup on or my hair curled. You’ve been warned!
Alright, now if any of you are still reading, I’m ready to share my hair and makeup trial with you! I first started researching stylists and MUAs around the 10 months until the wedding-mark. I knew this was going to be very important since I was going to be the center of attention all day (along with Mr. Cola, of course). My hair and makeup are super important to me on a daily basis, so the wedding day has to be extra special!
Enter Yelp, OnceWed, Project Wedding, Weddingbee, The Knot, and every site I could think of to find reviews of bridal stylists in the area. I contacted several for their prices, and to find out if they’re good with working with long hair, and one stuck out to me: Aimee Lam. At the time I contacted her she had 29 reviews on on Yelp, of which 27 were five stars, and the other two, four stars. And all the reviews were so glowing, I just had to have a trial with her!

Mrs. Scissors, LaGrange, GA
Age and Occupation: 25, Photography & Graphic Design
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Engineering Grad Student
Engagement Date: January 1, 2009
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: Ceremony - First United Methodist Church; Reception - My parents' house!
About Me: I’m a six-foot-three bride with a fifty-foot personality! I love great art, fabulous design, intense color, tons of music, indie photography, watching movies on repeat, and being really awesome. This super-tall, Southern, loud, quirky, neurotic artist is marrying a German, quiet, silly, super-amazing roboticist in an eclectic, funky, fun, snazzy, technicolored June wedding. Anything is game for this shindig, for it is all about us! We’re bringing giant paper cranes, six-foot-tall portraits, fortune cookies, a photo booth, a club-circuit DJ, handcuffs, and possibly a kidnapping to this small Southern town. Watch out, y’all, and try to keep up!

Mr. S asked my father for permission to marry me in September of 2008, and then began the Great Ring Search of 2k8. We researched, we looked, we obsessed, I cried about 100 times, and just generally stressed the hell out about it.
I didn’t want him to have to take a loan out to get the ring. We are both college students. We don’t need more loans. Also, it was important to him that he pay for it himself, that is with money he earned and no parental involvement. I also liked this.
We soon found out that we were pretty “meh” when it came to most engagement rings during our search. Or, if we really liked it, it was ridiculously out of our price range. Plus, there was nothing we really *loved*. More frustration and tears followed.

Age and Occupation: 33, Lawyer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, ditto
Engagement Date: July 2008
Wedding Date: March 2010
Venue: Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay
About Me: The Mr. and I are two 30-somethings who enjoy tasty sweets of all kinds, our neighborhood wine store, and cuddling with our pug. NYC is where we live and the city we love, but we’re doing the deed out in Northern California. We are trying to keep the affair small, intimate, and manageable. Our motto is: the less people, the better! (I’m kidding.)
December 28th, 2009 @ 11:46 am by Mrs. Pug
In order to rival the ridiculous number of my posts re: paper, I am posting yet again about wedding dresses, so that you all know just how truly obsessed I am.
Gather ’round, kids, so I can tell you about my big revelation during dress shopping.
Is there “the one”? You know, “the one” dress that captivates your heart, the one that you must have, the one you feel like you wore every day in a past life and you were just meant to be together? I certainly thought there would be.
Would I just “know”?

Mrs. Trail Mix, New York
Age and Occupation: 26, PE Teacher
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, MBA Student
Engagement Date: March 2009
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: Tannery Pond at the Darrow School
About Me: I'm a country girl who somehow found herself living in the Big Apple and loving every minute of it. I'm planning a rustic, country-chic wedding in my hometown in upstate New York and it's going to be a Party with a capital P. White wine, flea markets and running keep me happy and my friends, family and fiance are my world. I'm a little bit crafty, a little bit crazy but mostly just crazy in love.
Yup, the title of this post says it all. Trying to train for any type of running event during the winter months can be a pretty demoralizing experience. Add in a few weeks of holiday craziness and we’ve got a recipe for becoming a total slacker on marathon-training right here.
First of all, may I just say to all you readers who live in warm climates, where snow, ice, wind and -15 degree temperatures are non-existent, I am tres, tres jealous! I am genuinely envious of being able to go outside without donning 20 million layers of clothing beforehand. Also, this post probably won’t be that interesting, so go soak up some sun or wear flip flops outside or something.
What are the perils to training outside in the winter weather? Let’s talk about a few…
1. Cold. This one is a no-brainer but it’s still important to consider! I only wear wicking fabrics (i.e. not cotton) that keep my body from getting too cold while running and sweating. Personally, I love these socks-

Mrs. Spaniel, Los Angeles
Age and Occupation: 28, Law Student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Psychologist
Wedding Date: March 2010
Venue: Calamigos Ranch
About Me: I'm a third-year law student trying to balance graduating with starting my career, keeping up a relationship, and, oh yeah, planning an Old World, multi-cultural, "mountain lodge" wedding for 180 guests! A South Asian Jewish girl getting ready to marry my handsome Catholic Dane, I'm hoping to blend our cultures in our wedding just a bit more gently than by providing samosas as appetizers and offering æbleskiver for dessert. (Although that would also be awesome.)
One item I never included in our more detailed wedding budget was my veil. I didn’t need to—I have a hand-me-down! It’s an ivory, elbow-length veil that my mom wore at her wedding to my stepfather this past summer.

Photograph by Ken Portnoy
(I’d only use the back veil, not the blusher.) It’s perfect for me since it doesn’t have any additional embellishments—I feel like my dress is embellished enough!
Still, when I saw these mantilla veil photos at The Sari-Clad Bride, I had to reconsider my commitment to the simple veil.
