Mrs. Rainbow, Tampa Age and Occupation: 22, Makeup Artist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Electrical Engineer/Programmer Engagement Date: November 27, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: The Gamble Plantation About Me: I'm a quirky (and slightly Type-A) freelance makeup artist who was born in Washington State, raised in Alabama, and now living with my one and only in sunny Florida. I'm fashion and beauty obsessed, and have recently discovered my inner domestic diva extraordinaire. I'm a wannabe chef, decorating addict, and trying desperately to be as crafty as possible---albeit only with a glue gun. I'm hopelessly in love with my fiance, and all things sparkly and feathery. Despite the glittery exterior, I'm a total hippie on the inside. When I'm not making up pretty faces, I love doing what I can to help people, animals, and the environment. Someday the FI and I will change the world, but first we're tackling our modern-vintage-Marie-Antoinette-meets-Alice-in-Wonderland inspired wedding. I just can't wait to be Mrs. Rainbow!
About Mrs. Rainbow

So, we all have our New Years Resolutions, yes? Well, just like many others who have come before Mr. Rainbow and me, one of our resolutions is indeed weight related. Surprise, surprise.

You know how it goes. You work out and diet and primp in order to find a mate. Don’t deny it, don’t even lie, you know you’ve done it, too. Then, when you catch your prey, those things generally start to fall by the wayside. You want to spend every extra moment with your SO, and the gym is infringing on that time. Add that to the fact that dating generally relies heavily on going out to dinner dates and what not, and the next thing you know, you wake up, look in the mirror and…

“What the hell happened to me? I used to be so cute/hot/sexy/etc! Ugh.”

Yeah, well I’m feeling double “Ugh”, and it’s high time to do something about it!

With the wedding exactly 9 months away from the New Year, I’m counting on you to keep me honest! I have a severe exercise allergy and it’s no secret that I’m a total foodie, so I’m hoping that sharing my journey to “Bringing Sexy Back: Rainbow Style” with the hive is just what I need to keep me on track.

That said, once a month, I’m going to do an official hive check in. Feel free to share your fitness check-ins with me too, as I’m going to need all the support and motivation I can get, trust me! Now, I’m not going to tell you my weight because, well frankly, I just might crawl into a hole and die. But, every month I’ll keep the same format and track my progress (or lack thereof) as we go! I’ll call this “Ground Zero”. Shall we get started?

January 1, 2010 aka, Ground Zero:

  • Pounds lost: n/a (at starting point)
  • How many days I exercised this month: n/a
  • How many days I didn’t exercise this month: n/a
  • How many time I “cheated” on my diet: n/a
  • How I’m fitting in my dress: Uhm, it’s a tight fit, to say the least
  • How I’m feeling: Double Stuft
  • Notes: This is where I’ll keep you updated on any new products/videos/exercises that I’ve tried.

Tell me hive, what are your New Years resolutions? Are you trying to get in shape for the big day? How are you keeping yourself honest?

i plan on writing my progress down in a notebook, hopefully it’ll keep me motivated. i’m not looking to lose a specific amount of weight, i just know i have extra poundage to lose without batting an eye [thank goodness my body is like a chameleon!] though my main goal is to be more active. i hopefully will work out at least twice a week!

That’s a great idea! I’ve found sharing stuff with the hive has kept my little butt in gear, more so with finishing DIY projects and actually following through on ideas I’ve come up with. Good luck, we’re all rooting for you!

Good luck! Once you start excercising on a regular basis, your body starts to “crave” it and you feel bad if you don’t do it. I know it sounds like complete crap, but it’s true! Of course the opposite is true as well, if you go to the gym consistantly, and then stop going for a while, it’s reeeaally hard to get back into it. I’ve been on both sides and I just started going back to the gym like 2 weeks ago. So I’m not really at the , “Oh I simply MUST get my work-out in today” stage.

What sounds cliche but really helps is getting a trainer. Esp if you get one that like, yells at you. Either that or an abnoxious gym-going friend! Sounds fun right! Best wishes!

I’m with you on this exercise thing for the new year! And eating healthy, too - it’s so important.

Have you checked out sparkpeople? It’s a great site to help you track your progress and has tons of recipes as well as provides you with a community of people to help motivate you!

I know that just sounded like an ad for the site but it really is cool!!!

I’m with you on the exercise plan! I definitely wouldn’t mind toning up… and losing a few lbs. (Un)fortunately, when I had my dress fitting last week, the dress fit perfectly, so the seamstress told me not to lose any weight, or we’ll need to take it in. But I WANT to lose weight. What to do, what to do?

I’m going to London to study abroad for the semester and i decided that instead of joining a gym (which costs $$) I’m going to finally become a runner. The kind i always envied. the kind that breezes out the door and says, “oh I think I’ll go for a quick run”. I found a great website (from the UK incidentally) that has what seems like a doable beginner running program: http://www.serpentine.org.uk/pages/beginners_starting.html
Best of luck with your resolution! I can’t wait to hear your updates!

Mr. GP and I have been attempting to exercise more/eat healthy/lose weight too, but personally, I’m failing miserably. I keep telling myself “I’ll start next month”. Ugh. I do really well for a stretch and then lose it - I love your idea to check in with the hive! Go Rainbow go! We’ll keep you honest ;)

I have pretty much the same goal and only 15 days more than you! (Isn’t it scary it’s only 9 months away?)

I’m upping my workout regime, and hopefully I’ll lose another 30ish lbs before the wedding. Here’s hoping!

Good luck good luck good luck. :)

I had to back track–I missed your big post on the date change!
(I was confused about the whole 9 months versus 4 months left til the wedding)

You’ll do great!

Ugh - I need to lose weight, too. So much work. I’m sure you’ll do wonderfully! I think it’s a great idea to keep yourself accountable.

I have a very similar resolution! I just might have to make a check list for myself, similar to yours!

I’m taking up training to be a spin and Pilates instructor. I figure if my job requires me to workout, it’s a win-win situation!
