Possible STD

Possible STD : wedding diy rings save the dates stationery Smallsa smallsavethedateposs

I obsess. Over everything. It’s a well-known fact. Most of the time, I like to imagine that it adds to my charm, my character, my overall interestingness.

Sometimes it makes me want to poke my eyes out.

As an artist (ugh, that sounds so pompous), I felt that I needed to design all of our paper goods or I’d kick myself. So, I’m designing all of our paper goods. There’s a catch-22 in that I’ve also been kicking myself for making that decision! I’ve been obsessing, obsessing, researching, obsessing, and making mock-up after mock-up after mock-up for months and months and months. I’ve nearly driven myself mad over it.

Fast forward to fairly recently, when a sort of calm idea passed through my brain while drooling over Max Wanger’s work.

He does some beautiful things with text and photographs for his blog posts. I thought that it [the style] would be an awesome way to approach our paper goods. It could be quirky and fun, but also a simple enough design not to drive me bananas.

A few weeks ago, I made a some mock-ups of possible save-the-dates. One is posted at the beginning of this post, and the other is going, well, right after I finish this paragraph. (I also realize that the second one doesn’t have any “formal invitation to follow” jazz on it. These are really really early stages.)

I also need to figure out a way to have our wedding website plunked on there without getting too wordy. Maybe I’ll throw in another small card or a (hello, I’m now a wedding-sheep) magnet.

I envision these printed digitally on heavy, thick, matte, and grainy stock and sent out in kraft envelopes.

So ’fess up. Who else obsessed for MONTHS over a detail only to solve it in an afternoon? Or, is this a totally lame idea and should I scrap it entirely?

I LOVE the first design! Probably because it reminds me so much of our own STDs. We ended up putting ours on 220 lb. paper, and they were letterpressed on both sides. When I saw the pictures you posted of your ring the other day, I loved them, and I love them even more as you’ve incorporated them into your design. So cool!

I really like the first design, looks great!

We just sent out our save the dates and at a certain point I just had to let go of my OCD and be happy with a final product :)

Also, magnets make me a wedding sheep?! Everyone has loved them so far…

The first design is gorgeous. And you know why the magnets are “wedding sheep”? Because they are awesome. I see our STDs at every friend’s house now, and I’ve had more than one tell me that ours is the only wedding date they remember because ours is the only one that came on a magnet. ;)

i think these are great! keep working! i obsess over every single detail because, well, i want it to be perfect. so obsessing is a natural way of life for me as well. i also like to think it adds to my charm.

i like the second design. can’t wait to see what you ended up doing!

I love this idea!! The first one is so awesome! I did the magnet thing too, but I always like getting magnets (actually got another one yesterday). So no worries.

I like the first design - it’s very crisp (if I can use that word to describe it) plus it shows off your ring better.

I really like the first one and the second one seems more like your style - fun, non-traditional, quirky. I say go for it!

DO IT! I love the first one, and I agree - steer clear of the magnet. People (like me, who just received one from a friend) that have stainless steel fridges can’t stick ‘em on the fridge anyway and then we just toss them. Anyhoo, I love the first one, and I love the kraft envelope route. Yes ma’am. I sure do.

I loooove the idea of simple save-the-dates. I think it will juxtapose nicely with the intensity (and I definitely mean that in a good way!) of your actual wedding. And yes, I also obsessed over every.single.detail. Mainly shoes….I can’t even count how many hours I looked for shoe inspiration online!

Those are both cute. I love the simplicity on the cards.

I’m in the same boat as you - as a designer / artist I feel the need to design as much as possible myself. I feel like people sort-of expect it…. oh well, such is life.

I love the simplicity of the first design. I’m a graphic designer and also have taken on the task of designing ALL our paper goods. I can totally relate to how you’re feeling. I’m putting so much pressure on myself to create something…for lack of a better word…awesome. So, Good luck!

Aw, everyone likes the first one better…but I like the second one better! They are both cool though, but the second one just says to me, “hi! We’re happy and getting married!” I just think it’s cute!! But from seeing your pictures yesterday, and these mock-ups, I’m sure whatever you do will come out wonderful :)

(And yes I think all brides obsess over everything. I mean hello, sleepless nights over centerpeices already and we haven’t even set our date in stone yet…)

I love the first one - so artistic.

And, I’m the same as you. I have been obsessing over our paper goods for some time, and finally redesigned them during a road trip (I sat in the back seat with my Mac) and came up with a cooler design in a matter of an hour. Makes you think!

Disclaimer - I’m not a huge STD fan.

On that note - these look fantastic! And they definitely need to be printed exactly as you said. I really favor #2!!
