For the Love of Dogs

January 4th, 2010 @ 1:51 pm by Mrs. Pug

I know I’ve previously posted about our pugs and the wedding, but I am posting again because I love dogs (and I’m not alone, if you look through Weddingbee archives). All of ’em. Big, small, furry, fur-less (yes, even those), rescue, mutt, purebred—you name it, I love them. Mr. Pug gets so tired of me fawning after every dog we see on the street that he grabs my hand and pulls me forward in order to save ourselves some embarrassment. Dogs just make me happy.

Okay, there was *one* dog that I hated, and I use that word understanding the full force and extremity behind it. I dog-sat for this small, obnoxious, ill-trained, super-alpha dog once and we had a battle of wills.

(not the actual dog, but the attitude is spot-on)

I lost.

Moving on (because clearly I have)…

We have five pugs amongst the family members. I know I previously mentioned 4 pugs, but we got another in December. Here they all are (mine are the two fawn ones on the right):

Choosing a venue that allowed dogs was an absolute must. At the Ritz, while we can bring the dogs with us to the hotel, there’s something called the “department of health” which generally doesn’t allow dogs in eating/drinking places, so we can’t involve the pugs in the ceremony or reception. Instead, we will have to ham it up with the pups in photographs taken before the ceremony. I LOVE seeing wedding pics with dogs, and searched for some to see how other couples incorporated dogs into their weddings.

For example, maybe you can have your dog in the bridal suite?

Invite them to the reception?

Oops, maybe not. Well how about making a nod to them at the reception?

Are you involving your dogs in the wedding? I’m kind of sad that we can’t have our dogs at the ceremony or reception, so I’d love to live vicariously and hear what other people are doing.

I want to include my dog in my wedding day as well! But what are your plans for the dog during the ceremony/reception? Since all of our family & friends will be there, we can’t ask someone to drive the dog back home and lock him back up in the crate… hire someone to drive him to Wag hotels??? I’m clueless..

i TOTALLY want to incorporate my dogs into our ceremony but FI’s DEAD SET against it…We have a SUPER fat, super sweet beagle girl and an ADORABLE little morkie…but alas..FI absolutely says no…:(

We’re including our Scottish Terrier in our ceremony by having him come down the aisle with our bridesmaids. We even found a cute bow tie for him to wear!

We’re having an outdoor ceremony and holding the reception at our summer cabin to make it easier to include him. We will have his crate with us at both locations so that he can be crated if things get to be too overwhelming for him. I can’t wait!

@tofuchic: that’s a tough one–i can understand! is there someone like a neighbor you you know but is not invited to the wedding that you could ask, and then give them a thank you gift? or, a dog sitter?
@MissKimchi: love your username! oh, your FI’s ruining all the fun!
@jeepsr4girls: i am so jealous! you have to share pics after the wedding, okay?

I wish I could incorporate ours and have them there physically for the wedding, but alas the church/reception venues are not pet-friendly. I love the pic of the dog in the bridal suite!

I love the pics I see with dogs in weddings! Our pups were the reason that Mr. Buttons and I met…so it feels natural for them to at least be involved somehow…if possible! I know that Theo is going to hopefully make an appearance in my photos when I get ready…but we aren’t sure if Lucia will be able to make it :( I hope you can think of something for your pups to do the day of!

I don’t have dogs, but I just had to tell you that on our New Year’s trip, we saw the most adorable puppy of all time: a pug/chihuahua mix! I want one SO BAD.

We’d love to have our furbabies (a silky and a doxie) included in our big day, but unfortunately the church and country club frown upon it. :( Hopefully you can find a way to include your sweet pugs!

I love the dogs-in-the-bridal-suite pictures. We don’t have a dog, but we’d totally love to get one (just not practical right now).

I want to have our dog included, but I’m afraid she’s not well behaved enough to make it through the ceremony without tearing some clothes or wanting to tear around the venue a couple times, knocking everything over :) That last cake is really cute! That would be so cool! We’re at least having our table names be in frames with pictures of the dog!

Omg, the pic of the dog eating the cake is hilarious (but more in an “after the fact” way, I’d imagine, rather than a “we love that that happened” way).

I had actually been thinking about getting a small cocker spaniel figurine to put on my cake. The last picture you posted is what I had in mind. My family and friends think I’m crazy, but I love my dog so, that I have to incorporate her some kind of way. Plus, it would be hilarious and a great conversation starter.

ooh! I know! we could leave a pile of pug fur on everyone’s chair, so that it covers everyone’s clothes. that way, it’ll be like all 5 were there, even if they’re not allowed in for the dinner (boo! dept of public health!)

I so want to incorporate our Yorkie somehow. She’s in some of our engagement pictures, but I’d love for her to be the “ring dog.” Our venue doesn’t allow pets….but everyone says no one is around to tell you no. So we’ll see!

If we didn’t have our dog in our wedding my mom would have pooed. So we definitely brought her and had her walk down the aisle alone. She had no problem… she LOVES attention and poses for cameras… because she is a diva like that.

Aw, I so wish we could bring our babies, but I wouldn’t want to put them on a plane and I’m not sure our hotel allows them in the first place. Doggie discrimination!

We have cats, so we couldn’t really involve them in the wedding. However, I think it’s really cool when people are able to incorporate their animals into their weddings. Hey, they’re part of your family, too.
