Mrs. Rainbow's Picture
Mrs. Rainbow, Tampa Age and Occupation: 22, Makeup Artist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Electrical Engineer/Programmer Engagement Date: November 27, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: The Gamble Plantation About Me: I'm a quirky (and slightly Type-A) freelance makeup artist who was born in Washington State, raised in Alabama, and now living with my one and only in sunny Florida. I'm fashion and beauty obsessed, and have recently discovered my inner domestic diva extraordinaire. I'm a wannabe chef, decorating addict, and trying desperately to be as crafty as possible---albeit only with a glue gun. I'm hopelessly in love with my fiance, and all things sparkly and feathery. Despite the glittery exterior, I'm a total hippie on the inside. When I'm not making up pretty faces, I love doing what I can to help people, animals, and the environment. Someday the FI and I will change the world, but first we're tackling our modern-vintage-Marie-Antoinette-meets-Alice-in-Wonderland inspired wedding. I just can't wait to be Mrs. Rainbow!

I Got Myself an STD

January 4th, 2010 @ 6:01 pm by Mrs. Rainbow

… of the paper variety, of course. I Got Myself an STD : wedding diy save the dates Winky012 winky012

Since Mr. Rainbow and I pushed our date back to October, I did what I said I would never do. I got on the STD bandwagon. I always said, “Oh no, STDs are not for me!” and when I discovered others with STDs, I thought, ‘What a waste!’

And now, here I am, in all my glory, complete with an STD. *sigh*

I just couldn’t help but to catch STD fever. It’s contagious, ya know? You see people having fun with their STDs, photographing their STDs, sharing… er, mailing… their STDs, and you think to yourself, ‘Gee, maybe I do need an STD. Everyone else has one. Clearly, it’s what all the cool kids are doing.’ And the next thing you know, you’ve got your very own STD.

Earlier today, I was taking my sweet time playing around on Wordle using some of our inspiration words, just seeing what it would spit out at me.

Then suddenly I thought… ‘Hmm… this could make a neat save the date.’

So, I was playing around with words and color combinations and it just wasn’t doing exactly what I wanted. The colors were right, the font was nice, but I couldn’t get the words to go where I wanted them to go. Then I made like Gregory House and had myself an epiphany. If you watch House M.D., you know exactly what I mean. He makes this face:

in every episode when he has a medical epiphany. It’s what Mr. Rainbow and I like to call “the epiphany moment” and we gasp and call it out every time it happens. We’re devoted House watchers, if you haven’t already realized.

Anyway, as I was saying, my little light bulb turned on and I thought, ‘Hmm… I could probably just do this myself, then I can make it exactly how I want it.’ So PowerPoint and I made friends for a few minutes and this is what I came up with:

I erased our last names, but you get the idea. The fonts are Castellar and Porcelain, which are the same fonts that are being used on our invites. I must admit, I’m glad I got on the STD bandwagon. I like them a lot, and it was a fun and easy project.

Is there any detail that you were completely not into, but eventually got sucked in to? Are you sending Save the Dates?

I did a similar design in Keynote (the Mac alternative to PowerPoint) - to save you some heartache, if you intend to upload a .jpg for printing, make sure that the font colors you’ve chosen are printable colors. Not all of them are, and after spending AGES on my STD, I almost cried when I uploaded it and the colors were completely and totally different. I ended up redoing it in Illustrator, which warns you when you’ve chosen a color that can’t be printed.

My STDs will be at my house tomorrow! I’m doing postcards that i designed in Photoshop and got printed. I wasn’t going to do save the dates but i did want people to go to our web site and see all the info and our hotel accomodations. Now that I’ve shown the design to my two bridesmaids that are also getting married in 2010 they want me to design ones for them too

Wordle is so cool. I played around with this too, when we thought we were sending STDs.

I was wordle playing yesterday in fact! I put my ideas down for the beach bbq and voila! I found my announcement signs for each day at the hotel and our “wedding information center” I plan to create!

We had wordle fun on the boards too yesterday! Come check out that post!

Yours look great! Beautiful font and color scheme!

Great interpretation of the Wordle idea into your STD - it looks great! We used Castellar for our title font too!! Excellent choice ;)
