We met, fell in love, got engaged, and will be married at our alma mater (go lions!) in a traditional Catholic ceremony followed by a hotel reception with lots of DIY details. It means so much to have our families and friends meet at our favorite place on earth to celebrate our love for one another - I truly couldn't ask for anything more!
About Mrs. Cheeseburger

You already heard about my love for Knobstoppers, and after sitting on the idea for a few days while on my family vacation this summer, I decided to make an impulsive purchase (tell me I’m not the only one who does this!).

I stalked eBay for vintage doorknobs, most of which were in auctions and out of my price range. Then I stumbled upon this store, which sold vintage-style depression glass cabinet pulls for really reasonable prices.

I ordered 50 of them in a mix of amethyst, light green and clear, and they arrived just a few days later. They were too cute! While they weren’t as big as full door knobs, they were just big enough to give the effect I was looking for.

Then it was time to get corks for the actual wine stop. Originally, I wanted synthetic corks, but I couldn’t find any that were tapered (ideal for temporary corking). I ended up getting natural #8 tapered corks from Winemakers Depot for $0.15 a piece.

Eventually Cheeseburger Dad and I got around to assembling these. First, I hot glued the knobs to the top of the corks:

The seal is by no means permanent, but it helps to hold the cork in place during the drilling in the next step.

Cheeseburger Dad realized after some experimenting that if he pre-drilled a tunnel through the knob/cork, that the screw went in easiest. He used some kind of fancy stainless steel rust-resistant screws.

And here is one in action:

I have a little plan for what we’re going to use these for, but it’s still in the works, so stay tuned!

Anyone else ever DIYed something without confirmed plans for the project’s use?!

@Mrs. Deviled Egg: haha thanks… they are going to be the death of me, I think. :)

@Miss Buttons: do it! They would make a really easy DIY favor (on the CHEAP)… I only did 50 so I have to come up with a different plan, you’ll see!

@D.Marie: Thanks! He actually did all the hard work, haha :)
