I am a rabid knitter, except recently, wedding projects have replaced my yarn and needles. I’ve been fiercely independent since the age of 2 and 30 years later I think my family and friends had given up on me settling down and getting married. Ironically, I had to go all the way to Seattle to find a boy from Purdue. We fell in love over Seattle Beers and cooking together. I love NASCAR, he loves Legos. I can talk like a Muppet and he can fit a whole McDonald’s cheeseburger in his mouth. We are a two reception couple, currently planning a brewery inspired bash.
About Mrs. Pretzel

Three Weddings and a Baby

January 5th, 2010 @ 5:22 pm by Mrs. Pretzel

This year, for the first time, I flew to Fort Wayne Indiana to spend a white Christmas with Mr Pretzel’s large family. When I say large I mean YUUUUGE! His immediate family is his parents and three siblings, but his dad is one of eleven and his mom is one of four. On average each of his aunts/uncles has 3-4 children (and a few grandbabies!) and most of this extended family lives in Fort Wayne. This was the second time I was meeting many of his aunts and uncles and I was making mental notes left and right to learn all the names (even though I saw only a portion of his Dad’s family).

Mr Pretzel is the oldest of four. After him is Groomsman Trumpet—aptly named because he plays the trumpet in the Army band. Then there are the twins—Groomsman M and Bridesmaid M. Everyone was home for the holidays and we had a blast. My future in-laws are wonderful people. The 2009-2010 year is one of exponential expansion for their immediate family.

From July 2009 to July 2010 they will have three weddings and a baby
. No really, I’m not joking.

Here is the breakdown:

Mr Pretzel’s little sister/Bridesmaid M, was married this past July.

Whew! I am tired just thinking about it! FMIL and FFIL Pretzel are surprisingly calm. The first order of business when we arrived in Fort Wayne? Schedule a bachelor party, four bridal showers and two baby showers.

Did I mention that Mr Pretzel is the best man for his brother’s wedding? In April we are going to fly back to Fort Wayne so Mr Pretzel can host his brother’s bachelor party and I am going to have back to back (2 in one day) bridal showers with both sides of his family. There are so many of them they won’t fit in one house—so each side of his family hosts a shower—that is two showers per event. It wasn’t an easy task scheduling Bridesmaid S’s showers, my showers, and his sister’s baby showers. We wanted to be sure that the events weren’t too close together to overshadow any of the other events.

It’s an exciting year and we are blessed to share all of these milestones with each other. It also helps to give perspective. Sure, we’re excited about our wedding, but we are equally excited for his brother’s wedding and his sister’s baby.

Are there any other big events surrounding your wedding? How do you keep balance?

O.M.G. You deserve a cookie for that kind of schedule!!!
I thought planning my FI 28th and MOH’s 30th Birthdays a month before our wedding was going to be a workload.

Welcome to my life! :)

My fiance’s older brother got married in June of 2009 (all brothers and fiances were in their WP). His younger brother got married in September of 2009 (only the brothers were in the WP). And we are getting married in July of 2010.

It was crazy for a while there when we were all engaged at the same time! :) For a while there I thought my FMIL might pop!

Wow, that is a lot, but also so fun and exciting having something to look forward to!!
My FI and I have 4 weddings this coming yr! And we are each in 1 of those weddings (well not including our own)…. I guess 2009 was the yr to get engaged! So not only do we have the weddings, but the showers and parties associated with them! No babies yet, but it’s still early ;)

Wow! That is one crazy family schedule for the year. Our wedding is in the same month as Easter and will be during a holiday in St. Thomas so it’s gonna be a little nuts for us, but not as nuts as yours!

we have such a small family here in the states, that it’s really fun (if somewhat hectic) hearing about the hustle and bustle of milestones in large extended families. it all sounds very exciting, and wonderful that you all get to celebrate together!

Wow, Pretzel! You will have a busy year! Mr. Pudding and I went to three wedding in three weeks this summer, (two in Poland and one in Chicago). By the last one, we were exhausted!

Ahh, sounds like my family! My brother got married November ‘08, my sister got married May ‘09, my FI’s brother got married July ‘09, one of my sisters is having a baby this April, my other sister is having a baby in May, my wedding is in June, and my SIL is having a baby in August. So 4 weddings and 3 babies in a year and a half! It’s crazy, but so fun, too!

We’re not as crazy with our schedule, but it feels like a lot! Mr. Library graduates from college in May, FBIL Library might graduate (or walk) in June, I end my first year of teaching in June, we get married July 17, we’re on our honeymoon until July 29, I’m in another wedding on August 6 and then we have to find jobs and move! Ahh! I can feel your schedule pain!
