Mrs. French Fries's Picture
Mrs. French Fries, Milwaukee Age and Occupation: 27, Paralegal Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Investments Advisor Engagement Date: September 20, 2008 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: Ceremony: Catholic Church, Reception: Hotel Ballroom About Me: I'm a Midwestern girl who longs to live in a warmer climate (my feet would be happy in flip flops any day!). I love travel, impromptu napping, grilled cheese sandwiches, my iPhone, singing with reckless abandon in my car, and Mr. French Fries.
About Mrs. French Fries

When I selected my wedding gown, I fell in love with its simplicity. Sure, it has a super-awesome 3-tier full skirt that makes me want to twirl around in a circle like I’m 8 years old again, but the bodice of my gown is without any sort of ornamentation. No bling. No jewels. No lace. Just perfect, in my opinion.

So, the other day when I was trying it on (making sure it still fit after all of the holiday goodies I indulged in — and, miracle of miracles, it does!), I thought about how it would look with my W-day jewelry. And with my hair and makeup done. The “whole package”, if you will. And then I remembered how I had purchased a wonderful hair fascinator from Kasia Fink Veils. It looks like this:

To Sash or Not to Sash… That is the Question. : wedding accessories 13 1

I started tossing around the idea lately of dressing up my gown a bit with the fascinator…not by wearing it in my hair, but wearing it on my gown!

Inspired by Mrs. Cowboy Boot, I’m considering adding the fascinator to the waist of my gown. (You can see Mrs. Cowboy Boot’s beautiful sash in action here.) I’d most likely remove the alligator clip on the back and find some high-quality ribbon to attach it to.

To give you an idea of how it looks on my actual gown, I took a few pics. Please forgive the shoddy camera skillz; I’m not good at one-armed self portraits (and I’m not about to ask Mr. FF to assist me!). Also, please forgive the wrinkles in my gown…it spends a lot of time in its garment bag inside of a large cardboard box in our spare bedroom.

Here’s Option A – my gown, sans-flower:

Annnnnd, with the flower clipped to my waist (remember, it’d be attached to ribbon of some type on W-day).

This is Option B for our at-home players.

Let’s put it up for a vote, shall we?

I love the flower but your dress is gorgeous on it’s own… Totally up to you I think :D

your dress is great, with out without, but I think the flower adds a little “romantic glam” without overkill. it would be a nice touch

I say sash-it but nothing too different from your dress. The flower is a statement piece, then maybe a pearl clip in your hair to accent the pearls on the flower?

I love it with the flower. Maybe think about what type of ceremony your are having? I guess if the decor is simple, go for simple, and vice versa.

FLOWER! It looks like it was made for your dress! And adds a punch of fun floral elegant (maybe touch of whimsy!) :)

I love it with the flower!! It reminds me of Jackie O’s inaugural ball gown. It had the rosette on the hip and was, of course, fabulous. http://www.thecityreview.com/jackieo5.gif

i’m ALWAYS a ‘add a flower/sash’ girl but in this case, i like your dress without it! i think the drama of the fabric speaks for itself and you should add the flower in your hair. GORGEOUS dress by the way. just gave myself a nice case of dress envy!

I think the dress is so elegant and beautiful and the flower kind of detracts from it’s simplicity. I still think it would look lovely in your hair!

I’m going to go against the grain and say no flower! I love the beautiful simplicity of your dress. But you should totally wear the flower in your hair… or on your clutch.. or something!

Hmmm, I was totally into saying yes to the flower when I just saw the midsection of your dress but once I saw the detail on the bottom I changed my vote to no. I think it will be great in your hair though.

I think it looks awesome without a ribbon and just the flower, but you didn’t give that as option. ;o)

I think it looks good either way but I voted for the flower bc I’m a sucker for flower embellishments!
