With This Ring

Or rather, these rings:

(My wedding band inside Mr. GP’s)

Mr. Guinea Pig and I had decided that we would buy each other’s wedding bands, and we put a $200 cap on what we were allowed to spend. This seemed more than reasonable because we both wanted plain white gold bands. So I began looking around at wedding bands online, and I saw sparklies everywhere! And then I looked down at my engagement ring and realized that because of the stones down the side of the band, you don’t really see much of the white gold ring from the top! And wouldn’t it be nice to have matching sparkle?! Ha.

So I started looking at half-eternity bands, but couldn’t find one that I liked, in our price range. Then one day, I was browsing Overstock.com at work, and voila! My ring! It was sliiiightly over budget at $260, but it was a complete eternity band with diamonds all the way around! And the super thinness of the band is what had me really, really excited. I knew I did not want a very wide band, and a lot of the diamond bands were wider than I was looking for. So I sent the link to Mr. GP with some kind of classy note along the lines of “OMG I WANT THIS PRETTY PLEASE”. And it was in my grubby hands 4 days later! Sweeet! I think it goes great with my engagement ring!

(My skin is a weird color in this photo… and note to self: clean engagement ring)

Mr. Guinea Pig thought he wanted a plain, polished, domed ring. He was so certain of this, he refused to go try on rings to make sure. But when I asked what his ring size was, he didn’t know - so I said, “Oops! I guess we’re going to have to go to a jewelry store after all! Might as well try on some rings!” :) Evil Guinea Pig (because I know there are ways to figure it out without setting foot in a store). And lo and behold, when he tried on ’the perfect ring’, he hated it! Well, color me surprised. (not)

We browsed the selection until he found a ring that actually suited him perfectly - instead of the domed style, he prefers a beveled edge with a flat top (do these descriptions make sense?!), and because the shininess of a polished surface was too much for Mr. GP, he really loved the brushed look. Once again, Overstock came to the rescue with this ring:

(Mr. GP models his [slightly too big] wedding band)

It’s a 6mm titanium ring with a brushed center and polished bevel edges. And it was only $30! Part of me feels a little guilty that his band is so inexpensive, but… he doesn’t care, and I’m not sure why I feel like I should spend more money when this ring is exactly what he wants! It’s about a half size too big, and since titanium rings cannot be resized, we’re in the process of returning this one and ordering a half-size down. That just means he won’t be able to sneak try-on sessions with his ring the way I do with mine. :)

Was it easy for you to find wedding bands, or did you have to search high and low? Are you going for more or less sparkle than your e-ring? Did you decide to break the bank or stick to budget for your wedding bands?

We ended up breaking the bank with both of my rings (I didn’t try! I mean it!). But, we figured that it’s something that I’m going to wear every day for the rest of my life, so the cost per wear is pretty inexpensive :-)
We haven’t looked for his yet, but it shouldn’t be too outrageous (even though he wants a little bling on his ring).

I love your rings! Yours is gorgeous, and Mr. FF has a very similar band to Mr. GP’s — they both obviously have good taste in wedding bands and in women! ;)

Well, considering my band was free (grandma’s ring) and his was tungsten carbide and inexpensive, our bands were probably one of the cheapest wedding related things so far for us! And I wish I could do sneaky ring try-ons but Mr. N has my band and I have no idea where he put it!

@Goldilocks1107: I definitely understand the ‘I’m wearing it for life’ idea, and if we had the money, I’m sure we would have splurged ;)
@sarahd07: Yay! I’m so glad I could be of help! Let me know what you end up going with :)
@Miss French Fries: Ha - indeed they do :D
@Miss Nachos: I tried to get Mr. GP to hide it but I can always get secrets out of him ;)

Gorgeous! That’s just the type of wedding band that I am looking for as well. Nice and simple, but with some bling as well!

I love how your wedding band goes with your e-ring! So beautiful! I actually wanted less sparkle (or, in fact, none) on my wedding band than my e-ring. I teach young kids and I wanted something durable so that it could stand up to messy stuff at school if need be.

My ER was from Overstock.com and I LOVE it! I am a….eh…hummm..somewhat….a control freak, so both FH and I knew that I would have to be somewhat involved in the ring decision. We went to a few stores and I looked online. I found a few rings on Overstock, said that was the style I liked and then left the rest up to him.
I get quite a few compliments on the ring. It’s kind of antique looking, but with a modern look too, that’s part of the reason why I love it. People have said that the ring is “totally you”. I don’t know if that is a good or a bad thing?!
My FH initially wanted a ring that is $700+. After reviewing our budget, he has decided that he can probably find a similar band that is significantly less (he is actually wearing an engagement-band now, but wanted another band for his wedding band.)

His band was pretty easy to find, since we found it first… mine was quite the hassle!
