Or rather, these rings:
Mr. Guinea Pig and I had decided that we would buy each other’s wedding bands, and we put a $200 cap on what we were allowed to spend. This seemed more than reasonable because we both wanted plain white gold bands. So I began looking around at wedding bands online, and I saw sparklies everywhere! And then I looked down at my engagement ring and realized that because of the stones down the side of the band, you don’t really see much of the white gold ring from the top! And wouldn’t it be nice to have matching sparkle?! Ha.
So I started looking at half-eternity bands, but couldn’t find one that I liked, in our price range. Then one day, I was browsing Overstock.com at work, and voila! My ring! It was sliiiightly over budget at $260, but it was a complete eternity band with diamonds all the way around! And the super thinness of the band is what had me really, really excited. I knew I did not want a very wide band, and a lot of the diamond bands were wider than I was looking for. So I sent the link to Mr. GP with some kind of classy note along the lines of “OMG I WANT THIS PRETTY PLEASE”. And it was in my grubby hands 4 days later! Sweeet! I think it goes great with my engagement ring!
Mr. Guinea Pig thought he wanted a plain, polished, domed ring. He was so certain of this, he refused to go try on rings to make sure. But when I asked what his ring size was, he didn’t know - so I said, “Oops! I guess we’re going to have to go to a jewelry store after all! Might as well try on some rings!”
Evil Guinea Pig (because I know there are ways to figure it out without setting foot in a store). And lo and behold, when he tried on ’the perfect ring’, he hated it! Well, color me surprised. (not)
We browsed the selection until he found a ring that actually suited him perfectly - instead of the domed style, he prefers a beveled edge with a flat top (do these descriptions make sense?!), and because the shininess of a polished surface was too much for Mr. GP, he really loved the brushed look. Once again, Overstock came to the rescue with this ring:
It’s a 6mm titanium ring with a brushed center and polished bevel edges. And it was only $30! Part of me feels a little guilty that his band is so inexpensive, but… he doesn’t care, and I’m not sure why I feel like I should spend more money when this ring is exactly what he wants! It’s about a half size too big, and since titanium rings cannot be resized, we’re in the process of returning this one and ordering a half-size down. That just means he won’t be able to sneak try-on sessions with his ring the way I do with mine.
Was it easy for you to find wedding bands, or did you have to search high and low? Are you going for more or less sparkle than your e-ring? Did you decide to break the bank or stick to budget for your wedding bands?
