Mrs. Frozen Yogurt, Dallas Age and Occupation: 28, Special Projects Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity Trader Engagement Date: March 19, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Marie Gabrielle, Dallas About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.

A Little Girl Talk

January 6th, 2010 @ 1:13 pm by Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

Can we talk about my boobs for a minute? We’ve heard stories from some of my fellow bees regarding their hope for a more ample bosom that will be achieved through the perfect bra or “cutlet”. Yeah, um… I’m working on the minimizing effect. Is there a bra for that? One that won’t make me look like I have uni-boob, long boob, chin boob (where you’re pushed up so high you feel like your boobs stop at your chin) or smushed boob. If there is, I haven’t found it yet.

See, this boob thing has been a real problem for me my entire life, and of course, wedding time is no different. I’m petite. 5′3″, though I lie and say 5″4″. (Everyone does that, right?) I’m not a big girl, but the boobs always make me look bigger, and they make shopping for clothes impossible. Shopping for my wedding dress was great fun, but also stressful. I was worried that the sample dresses wouldn’t fit, and worried that I would look “too sexy” in dresses. Actually, I worry about that often and find myself throwing on a cardigan or something else to cover up, although I’m not really showing that much skin. I feel like having a large chest can make you feel over-sexualized in whatever you wear when really you just want to wear a cute top, but somehow you end up looking like a girl heading out to the club and it’s only noon. And don’t even get me started on bathing suits.

So how do I handle all this?

The truth is, sometimes I cry, sometimes I look into a breast reduction and sometimes I just say F it, this is me. However, weddings can be very stressful for girls with large chests. Wedding dresses can be totally unforgiving and so can bridesmaid’s dresses. And how about all those cocktail and shower dresses? Yep, they can be stressful, too. Luckily I found a wedding dress that makes me feel beautiful and not exposed, or “too-boob” as I like to say. I’ve learned what styles and designers fit me best and I try to stick to those. But it is a constant struggle.

How do the rest of my ample-bosomed girls deal with being “blessed”?

Aww, Miss Fro Yo, I’m sorry that you feel like this! (But I’m happy you found a dress you love!) I definitely don’t have this problem (more the opposite), but I can see how it would be frustrating!

I’d like to know too. I am going wedding-dress-bra shopping soon and I am sure I’ll be crying over it.

I got a bra at Victoria’s secret that seems to minimize my D’s a bit. It was a total accident because it looks like a regular lace band bra. Maybe hunt around there and see if there’s anything for everyday? I’m glad you found a dress that works for you though!

Oh god, I know how you feel. All I want is to be able to own a button down shirt. If it fits my waist, it won’t button over my boobs, if it fits my boobs, it’s baggy around my waist. Pain in my ass. Luckily I found a dress that works with my boobage, while not being too-too boobilicious.

I HEAR YOU 10000%. Seriously. Seriously. You know I’ll prattle on and on about breast reduction pros and cons…pm me anytime to talk or kvetch!

Right now I’m in a weird space whereas I had a breast reduction, but I am measuring as a DD. Really unhappy.

I could have written this post!! I feel ya - at 5′4″ (really tho not adding an inch) my boobs make me look usually 10-20 pounds heavier then I am. And I am so not into showing cleve - so clothes to cover up or divert ppls attention away make me look heftier as well. The D bra I just bought does not fit what so ever and I refuse to go buy DD. My need to lose weight is more so that my boobs go down a size (although I haven’t seen a C bra since high school that liked me)

I don’t know what I am doing about a wedding bra yet.

I feel your pain! i dread shopping for a bra for under my beautiful dress because I feel like every bra is padded, and being a DD myself, even as a larger girl, i feel like its all about the boobs when I don’t want it to be! I will say I have 2 friends who got breast reduction surgery and they love their new smaller chests. It is a long, painful recovery though and the scars stick around (5 years out and my friend still has some large scars and she went to an awesome doc). There ARE minimizer bras out there, I know I’ve seen them sold at Kohl’s and Boston Store, but they are frequently not sexy. :(

Good luck on your hunt!

I feel your pain. Swimsuits really are the worst. Why on earth don’t they make them with underwire? And why must all bras for bigger boobs be so huge and ugly. I’m tall (5′9″) but am small around (like a size 4 or 6). I wear a 32DD usually, which is an impossible size to find. I’m a bit worried about finding a good bra to go with my dress as well! Please check out Fantasie bras. They are a bit spendy, but really worth it. They last a long time and actually do their job. I’ve also had some luck with Calvin Klein too!

5′2″ tall and size 32G over here :( Plus, my gown, while providing ample coverage up front, has a full lace back that is see-through. I have searched high and low, and cannot find a low-backed, strapless bra in my size. I was referred to a woman in San Francisco that can make custom corsets, but have been putting it off because I’m scared of sticker-shock. I have similar “cute dress” anxiety, especially with the ones that have what I refer to as the “pre-designated boob area” into which mine never fit. Nice to know other feel my pain . . .

That would be tough. I got a taste of it when I was trying to pick a dress for one of my BMs. She’s very endowed and self-conscious about it, so finding a dress that was flattering, not matronly, but also not excessively revealing was… hard. So I feel for all of you.

I’m the same as @Miss Rainbow — button downs are no bueno for me (I use a safety pin to close the gap, but only if I’m wearing a sweater over the top to cover up my little “fix.” ::sigh:: I hear you.

I know how you feel, as a 34-D but probably DD but refusing to admit it — hope you find a great bra and keep us posted!

P.S. Cleavage is so less accepted in the East Coast than it is in the Midwest! Ok, done griping now.

I can’t weigh in on this completely as I am one of the “less ample” gals, but I hear my friends/bridal party complain all the time about this issue. I feel for you! My sister for example had to order a dress size much bigger in the waist just to account for her chest size-…
BTW, I am also 5″3, but tell others I am 5′4 (it just seems so much taller-LOL)

In the same boat. height 5′4”, bra size 34 DD, dress size 8 in the top and 4 on the bottom. I laugh when girls say they want boob jobs to make clothes fit “better” hah yeah right! Unless fitting better means you want to look like the naughty librarian in a button down and a sweater vest.

As far as cute little shower dresses, I have given into the fact that my clothes need to be altered. I buy dresses to fit my chest and then have them taken in for the rest of my body. And while it is expensive, the sales rack really open up when you know that you are going to get it altered anyway.

I am fearing the undergarment shopping as well. I worked at a bra store for a while, and learned that many women buy larger size bras and have them altered. For example, I would buy a 38 DD bustier and alter the lower half to fit my body. This would give me the extra room in the top to make me feel secure and the bodice would fit me perfectly.

So the moral of the story is before getting over-stressed get a good seamstress.

I feel your pain - I’m a 36DD and 5′2″. I didn’t have too many issues with my wedding dress (hello a-line witha corset back), but I struggle otherwise.

Case in point: I’m a BM in a friends wedding a month after mine. The dress is trumpet shapped, with a high neck, and alow criss-cross back. So, the dress was ordered to fit my hips which are big. I have a small waist, so the dress is SUPER baggy there, and the boobs, well, they’re running free until I can find a strapless backless bra in my size!

Ugh, I feel you! And I totally agree about the trying not to look ‘too sexy’ in dresses - it’s hard! I don’t have any tips, but I’d love to hear your solution!

@MissChirpie: Right?? I wish ALL bathing suits had underwire! At least make it removable so those who don’t need it can get rid of it. Bathing suit shopping usually makes me cry.

I know exactly what you mean! I’m 5′6″ not big at all and I am very chesty….for example I went into Victoria’s Secret the other day to get a new bra with my gift cards…bounced back to the fitting room with my size 34D in hand….um WRONG!!! Size 36DD is now my name! It’s so frustrating…I dread looking for a dress….come to think of it, do they make sixe Large T-shirts that look like wedding dresses?

I am glad you found a dress to suit your needs =) I am somewhat in the same boat, 5′2″ and 38C - so it can look ‘off’ in a way, but I also found a great dress to minimize and then found (after a long search) a great strapless bra that really just held everything where it should be - ended up wearing that bra with my rehearsal dress and even with dresses that I wore on our honeymoon cruise!!

You have our support =)
