A Place to Place Cards

January 6th, 2010 @ 4:44 pm by Mrs. Cheeseburger

The day I saw this beauty on OnceWed, I was in love (this happens to me a lot).

Swoooooon. I had to have one.

I decided to make mine with vintage sheet music instead of book pages, but it was equally as beautiful. This was the very first DIY project I took on, just a few months after we were engaged.

Sadly, I don’t have pictures of my card box because, as time went on, I fell out of love with my card box. Actually, I cheated on my card box when I fell in love with birdcages.

Thus began my birdcage hunt. They are sold in the wedding sections of Michaels and A.C. Moore, as well as on sites like Save On Crafts, but I didn’t think any of them fit what I was looking for. I kept searching until I found the perfect one on eBay!

It is a big, beautiful, vintage-inspired, brass birdcage complete with grape vines weaving through! I grabbed some ivory silk peonies for the top and my (second) card box vision was complete. Sigh. Perfection. Here it is:

I had to part ways with my DIY card box, but I think I made the right move for me in the end.

Did you ever cheat on one of your DIY projects?

I also had a bird-cage cardbox… I always assumed I’d make a something and then my mom bought the birdcage, it was so easy to cheat after that :)

I love it!

I cheat on my design projects all the time. They get abandoned for new ones. :(

I’d love to see the DIY you created! I think the bird cages are nice (yours is lovely!), but I’m just not sure that’s our style. I’m on the hunt for something more us.

Oh yes, I do this often, mostly because I realize I can’t do what I set out to do, so I abandon those projects. Oh well.

Very pretty…I’m leaning toward a bird cage too, but will probably go with a vintage picnic basket instead because of the theme of the event.

Love the birdcage! I totally am abandoning my first DIY project too- a guestbook that just isn’t working out. It happens to us all I guess!
