About Mrs. Nachos

Like a Glove

January 6th, 2010 @ 11:58 am by Mrs. Nachos

I called up my friend Sharon this past week and asked her to meet me at David’s because my alterations were finished! The bustle is gonna be a little tricky because they didn’t color-code the hooks and buttons and it may take a while to get it all done up right. I wish I could have taken a pic of the look on Sharon’s face when the lady was showing her how it’s done because the perplexed expression said it all! It may take a village to get it to look like this but here’s the finished product and I love it…

We’ll have to smooth out the edge a bit more than it was sitting in the pictures—it’s a bit tricky because the skirt is 2 layers that are not sewn together, so the inside layer gets tucked up and kind of sits in the bubble part of the outside layer. Does that make sense? And my “just married” flippy floppies had arrived as well and they are the perfect height for the dress. Yea! I’m so happy to have my dress back. :)

Were you happy with your bustle? Did you choose a bustle that made your dress look naturally floor length?

eek! I didn’t realize - that your dress was the other dress I almost got! It looks great on you! I went with the under bustle, but b/c the lace overlay was longer than the slip it didn’t fully line up - I didn’t care :)

wow that bustle looks great with your dress! can i ask how your experience with working with DB alterations was? I got my dress from them too, and i will need alterations. But I wasn’t sure whether to do them there… or find another seamstress. Thanks!

Wow, I’ve been wary about bringing my dress back to DB for the bustle, but your bustle is really fabulous…

My dress! Ummm..I mean YOUR dress. Aaaahhh… the bustle was a killer because the dress is asymmetrical so it definitely requires extra funky bustling going on. Plus, we had to cut some because I was wearing flats. That being said, you look fabulous! The dress looks great on you.

@BVsmurfette: They were really great about listening to what I wanted and making sure I was comfortable in the dress once they pinned it. Overall, I think they did a fantastic job. My only complaint was that they were a little pricey, but I was comfortable going with them since they know their dresses best!

@bluebook: David’s called it a “ballroom bustle”

@Mrs. Swan: Yea dress twin! Yeah, the asymmetrical quality made the button placement interesting!

It looks fantastic! Just one suggestion - can you have Sharon practice once or twice before the big day? I had to do my best friend’s bustle with no practice and there were almost tears. I actually ended up safety pinning a bunch of it!

Please practice. My aunt practices with mine and still had trouble. It took three of my girlfriends to help her and a waitress. It didn’t seem that complicated eith in the salon.

It looks amazing!! I love it! My bustle is one hook so far, but I think I’m going to ask them to add a little extra in case something breaks.

Pretty. I’d be completely lost with a bustle though.

Beautiful bustle (and gown)! I have a similar looking gown in that it has buttons down the back and the asymmetrial look-this is very helpful to me! I have my first fitting next month so this is very timely.
