About Mrs. Buttons

Sometimes I’m Decisive

January 6th, 2010 @ 3:11 pm by Mrs. Buttons

When it came to selecting bridesmaids dresses, I surprised myself by being pretty darn decisive.

I wanted to make the bridesmaid dress process as easy and streamlined as possible, since my ladies are all from different states. I immediately honed in on J.Crew’s bridesmaid collection. I figured that they would be familiar with sizing, since it is a pretty common store. There is a great selection available in colors, fabrics, and dress styles.

Because the wedding is at the end of May in Florida, I knew that I wanted short dresses. I also zeroed in on the silk chiffon options, in the hopes that they would stay cool with a light and breezy fabric.

Then, the color selection. After ordering a few swatches of the silk chiffon, I decided that the Vintage Blue was best suited for the look I was going for.

As for the dress style? I decided to let the girls decide for themselves. I am not a huge fan of everyone matching (although if they all wanted the same dress, then I would have been fine with that), so the dress options that J.Crew offered provided my party with some variety.

So, what will my maids be wearing?

MOH L and BM A are going to be wearing the Sophia:

BM K will wear the twist tank dress:

BM L will wear the Juliet:

Overall, I am excited that there will be variety in my bridesmaids’ dresses, yet the color will be cohesive! I went ahead and created another inspiration board for the overall look for my bridesmaids:

Bridesmaids dresses: J.Crew, Flower earrings, Hair Pin Set, Chandelier earrings, Bird earrings, Turquoise bead necklace, Leaf earrings, Fabric flower necklace

Was your bridesmaid dress search long and drawn out, or did you make a quick decision?

@Miss Cake: Great minds think alike, eh?

@Mrs. Mouse: Oh I love that dress too! I am pretty sure that if I were in my own bridal party that would be the dress I’d pick!

@Miss Scissors: Pshaw…you can always choose J Crew too :)

Yay for J. Crew dresses. We also went that route — my bridesmaids are wearing the silk taffeta dresses, in the champagne color :-)

Beautiful color and dress variety. The styles look they’d be really flattering on everyone. I wanted non-bridesmaid-y dresses, and it was easier to get the same for everyone, so I ended up ordering a Bari Jay style in chocolate brown: http://www.barijay.com/style.php?coll=barijay&showid=252

I thought it would go nicely with my vintage garden party theme.

I LOVE! Unfortunately, one of my bm’s is a bigger girl, and J Crew just doesnt accomodate.

I went with those exact dresses in graphite! The girls were super excited that they’re affordable and re-wearable. Oh, and one of my BM’s just snagged hers on final sale marked down 40%! Score!

i love those dresses!! i had my BMs choose between 4 styles of the JCrew silk tricotine in navy, and i was kinda hoping for a mixed look of different styles, but they ALL picked the same dress (the Sophia). lol so who am i to argue? i ended up with totally matched BMs….but they all loved the dress and I know at least 5 of them (of 8 total) have already worn the dress again since my wedding.

@Ms. Min Pin: No charge for swatches! I just got in contact with their wedding consultants online, and they sent me swatches!

@bluestuff: Love the pleats!

@AprilBride10: Lucky! For some reason the vintage blue seems to be permanently stuck at full price…boo!

My girls are wearing Sophia in Vintage Blue. I did notice that it seems to be the color they will never discontinue, I was hoping to help them get them on sale. I did find one girls dress on ebay this week though.
