Mrs. Cola's Picture
Mrs. Cola, Mountain View, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Product Communications and Promotions Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Managing Partner and Senior Designer Engagement Date: March 5, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CA About Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
About Mrs. Cola

… More like an OH MY GOD, THERE’S ALMOST ONLY 5 MONTHS LEFT freak out-inspired resolve to get my lazy butt in gear!

Like so many of the Bees, fitness has been on my mind a lot lately. Specifically, now that I’m about a week away from the 5-months-until-the-wedding mark. I’ve really slacked off lately, not so much with what I eat, but with my exercise level. For a while there I was doing the 30 Day Shred a couple times a week, but from October until about now is a really busy time at my company, and combined with my 45 minute each way commute, I just couldn’t find the time. Plus, much like Miss Nachos, I’m kinda allergic to exercise, so it’s always pretty easy to talk myself out of working out.

But, no more! I’ve got a goal, hive, to feel better about myself and get more toned before my wedding. With my motivational issues, I need a reason to push myself, and the wedding couldn’t be a better reason!

Last night I started my new routine; as soon as I got home from work I changed into my workout clothes, had Mr. Cola snap a couple of “before” pictures of me, and started the PoweSourcer 90 In-Home Boot Camp. It’s from the same makers of the P90X , which you’ve probably all heard of, but it’s only about 35-40 minutes a day, since there’s no way I could handle the hour and a half a day that the P90X makes you do.

After only one day, I can say I’m pretty happy with it. I like that it has a countdown timer, showing you not only how long is left of the whole workout, but also how long is left of the particular section of the workout you’re on. It started with stretching and yoga, and included some boxing as well that was fun; and overall I did a much wider variety of exercises in the 35 minutes than the 30 Day Shred level 1 has. Another thing I like is that you aren’t doing the same workout every day like in the Shred; you alternate different ones each day, so your muscles have time to recover (and you rest one day a week… I was never really clear with the 30 Day Shred if you were supposed to ever give yourself a break, or do it 30 days straight).

Tonight I’ll be doing the level 1 “Sculpt” video, since I did the “Sweat” last night. I’m actually looking forward to it! And here, for your internet amusement, are my wimpy before pictures that Mr. Cola took. Let’s just see if there’s any difference in a month from now… I sure hope there will be!

Have you set fitness goals for yourself to get fit for your wedding day? Any tips on how to stick with it?

I like you am trying to get into shape/lose weight before the wedding except as of right now all I am doing is running my butt off on the treadmill. the treadmill is the only thing that shows results for me….

love the picture miss cola!

i have p90x and while i like the routines so far, the 1hour + work outs are daunting. maybe i should shell out for the power 90 instead. good luck!

I haven’t set any because I rely on regular exercise to stay sane, but FH set a goal of going to the gym 150 times this year. I think it’s awesome and will hopefully help encourage him to work out during “busy season” (he’s a CPA) to help destress. I view my role as helping to push him out the door. And I’m cookie and ice cream police (he’s also decided he doesn’t need any more after-dinner ice creams).

I just joined the gym, literally 2 hours ago!! lol 10 months til the wedding exactly - 20 pounds to lose - that is 2 a month and I better be able to do it! (athough I would like to lose it all by May for my BILs wedding). It is right near work so I plan to go at lunch to walk 30 minutes and then kick more butt after work 3 nights a week.

you can do it!!! you have time!! Just stick to it!

I’m a bit of a gym rat, though I got a bit lazy starting around November and through all the holidays. I, too, have under five months - though my last fitting, she wants to have the dress to me by April, so that leaves me less time.

Fiance doesn’t help, as he always buys sweets for the apartment, but I try to minimize what I eat or keep portions small, and I go to the gym each day during the week. With a few minor long weekends and affairs between now and April (ie: Super Bowl Sunday, Passover, etc.), I hope to be in really good shape for the big day.

Just keep to your schedule and allow yourself little things here and there. GL.

i go to the gym on my workouts, then when i get home from work i get on my wii fit or wii active–sometimes i think i’m more sore after the video games than when i’m at the gym!

(to all those wii owners, wii active will totally kick your butt!)

I’ve got 5 months too, and some major fitness goals! I didn’t buy a parking pass for this semester, so I’m stuck with biking 5 miles to work and back. Then there’s the 30 Day Shred that I try to do a few times a week, and meeting my girlfriend at the gym for weight training 3 times a week. If I can keep this up, I should be where I want to be by the time May comes around! :) Good luck!

Oooh, this looks right up my alley! I was thinking of doing P90X, but I know that I’ll never want to devote that much time to it. Thanks for the tip!

Good luck in your workouts — you can do it! :)

Although I love working out and goto the gym, I also lack motivation at times. To help make suer that I do my workouts I go straight from work to the gym. If I go home first, I never go.
I also have a workout buddy, my sister. It’s harder to skip when someone is expecting you to be somewhere. Pick someone who can push you.
The other thing I have found really helpful, is to sign up for some fitness event. Last winter I signed up to do a indoor sprint triathlon with a friend. It helped to have focus in my work outs, something specifc to work for instead of “getting into shape” or “losing weight.” Think about a 5k or a 50 mile bike ride. There are tons of them in the community, they are a blast and there are always plenty of people who don’t know what they are doing, which is comforting. :)

Yay! I can’t wait to see your progress reports! And the workout you chose (instead of P90X) sounds excellent! Good luck! I’ll be right there with ya trying to lose a few in the next 4 months :)

You can do it!! My goal was to get down 25lbs before May so I have time for final fittings and whatnot before the wedding.
I set the goal in mid October and am already down 10lbs from where I started! Simple diet and exercise five days a week (who’d have thunk it!). Best of luck!!!
