Tux to Chucks in One Night!

January 6th, 2010 @ 2:27 pm by Mrs. Scissors

Tux to Chucks in One Night! : wedding menswear shoes Pshoes1 pshoes

Mr. S lives in his Chucks. He wears them all. the. time. He goes through about 2 pair a year, I’d say. I love it. They’re awesome and classic, all at the same time. Since we’re trying to have as much “us” as possible show through in our wedding, why not inject a li’l’ Mr. S-style into our shindig?

So, about halfway through the reception, or, well, after the first dance and cake stuff, Mr. S’s going to transform from James Bond groom into a more relaxed super-awesome-supa-fly groom. (Not that he isn’t always super-awesome-supa-fly.) After the first dance, after the cake cutting, when it’s time for us to really kick up our heels, Mr. S will de-coat, de-bow-tie, roll up them sleeves, and don a pair of Chucks.

Not just his regular ol’ Chucks. No no no. We’re talking custom wedding Chucks.
Tux to Chucks in One Night! : wedding menswear shoes Chucks chucks

Colored on the inside and a colored stripe down the back. Our wedding date embroidered on the back. Hot stuff, right?

While some might balk at the idea of their groom in Chucks, I think it’s awesome. I’ve seen brides throw on flip-flops, so why not let the groom put on some awesome shoes? I rest my case.

What are you (and your groom) doing to inject his style into his wedding-wear? Anybody else going the Chucks-at-the-reception route? Or something even more awesome?

Some good friends of mine got married on NYE 3 years ago, and for the reception the whole bridal party donned Chucks :) The boys wore orange ones, and the girls dark blue (the wedding colors, also the favorite colors of the bride and groom). It actually looked really cool & funky, and was totally ‘them’.

Great choice, I love the custom wedding date idea!

My groom and all his groomsmen are wearing chucks at our wedding - but for the entire thing. I didn’t know you could customize them, that’s awesome. Where can you do?

True story. We were at a football game. The boys started talking. Someone came up with the bright idea of wearing Chucks to the wedding. The idea was spawned through NO prodding from me. It’s genius. Hahah. Although I know that if I suggested custom Chucks they will scoff at me and go what’s wrong with the 29.99 special at Famous Footwear??
So I’ve been toying with the idea of getting custom chucks for the ringbearers and flowergirls. They love their Chucks too! But I think my niece loves getting dressed up too much she might be reluctant to change out of pretty ballet flats into chucks.
We’ll see. It all depends on $$$. And I fear by August the whole Chuck thing might be overplayed…

@Michelle:
Right on their website. http://www.converse.com/#/products/shoes/converseOne/scratch
it’s pretty neat. all colors and combos. I do wish there were more text/# options tho.

@Miss Pug: Yeah! It’s pretty dang cool. Go to the website and play. You can change essentially every single panel to be a different color!
@Vintagedivine: So fun! I’d do that if I wore sneakers. I have some hot pink Chucks somewhere, but for some reason I never ever wear them.
@Michelle: Mr. S thought it would be better for us just to do the reception, because he was/is convinced that it would look crazy with the whole tux ensemble. I dunno if I agree, but it’s his outfit! :p Plus, our church would have a shitfit, I’m sure, if we had them in sneakers during the ceremony! For customization, just go to the Converse website. I linkied it up there.

@Gerbera: Remember, in wedding-world everything seems played out, but in real life, people rarely get to see this stuff! It’s a pressure cooker on the internets/mags.

my husband wore a great pair of spiffy frye dress shoes for the ceremony and a pair of jack purcell’s for the reception. it was all his choice, no wedding blog influence, he’s a shoe whore!

I LOVE the wedding chucks! They are awesome! Unfortunately, I dated a SUPER d-bag who always wore chucks, so whenever I see them I think of that ass-hat. >:|

Cute! Love that bright blue color. Maybe you should change into chucks, too? That would be pretty badass.

@Miss Rainbow: Oh, that suuuuuuucksss. Jackasses ruining everything.
@Mrs. Mouse: I was thinking of donning some neon tight/sock things. I actually own these in the neon pink/yellow/aqua. http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WomenBrowse/Women_Shop_By_Category/accessories/hosiery/PRDOVR~19179/19179.jsp

I had no idea that you could do that to chucks! I should show this to Mr. FF — he was wearing chucks the night we met. ;)

Mr. Peep did this, and it was awesome. He gets complements on his custom Chucks all the time. Just make sure that you get good pics of him and the two of you together wearing them. It’s amazing how many people comment on his awesome shoe choice when they see pics.

a pair of chucks with a tux ROCKS. love the custom idea. you totally have to make yourself a pair even if you only wear them on the car ride home. it would be fun to have matching bride and groom custom chucks. :) I was thinking of putting my guy in some custom skate shoes for the big day. he’s a skateboarder, so could be fun, no?
