It’s taken me a long time to write this post because of the emotional difficulty surrounding our photographer. If you remember, Mr. Guinea Pig and I booked Arthur Remanjon pretty much as soon as we had decided on a date/venue. Sadly, tragedy followed 5 months later when Arthur was killed in a motorcycle accident, which meant Mr. GP and I needed to think about what we wanted to do, evaluate our options, and choose a new path pretty quickly.
In the months since we had booked Arthur, I had learned about the WPJA, WeddingWire, and Weddingbee (yay!), so I had plenty of new places to look for photographers. We made a list, checked it twice (ha) and sent out some feeler emails. After all, we were now 8 months from the wedding, and a lot of photographers are booking like mad at that point so we were worried everyone would be busy.
Happily, Mr. Guinea Pig and I discovered that Amy Deputy was still available and totally willing to shoot our wedding! Amy is an amazing photographer, super sweet, and was really excited to work with us. Also importantly, she was willing to work with our budget which was already set in stone, as we had thought photography was taken care of. When I met with her (Mr. GP was already in CA at this point) I felt like she really appreciated the joy in every single wedding she photographed, and tried to capture those hidden moments just as much as the ’scripted’ ones (like cake cutting, etc.).
We really wanted a photojournalistic style photographer (who doesn’t these days?) and as someone who had worked for nearly 10 years as a news photographer for the Baltimore Sun before getting into wedding photography, Amy has the perfect background! Not to mention, mad skillz.
Amy’s photos cover everything we hope to see in the photos from our day - excitement, tears (of joy!), laughter, dancing, love, nerves, everything. I’ll let some of Amy’s photos explain why we love her so much (all photos in this post copyright of Amy Deputy, from her website or blog):
(if only I could convince Mr. GP to do a first look)
(Since I never wear heels, I imagine I will have this exact same moment at our reception)
(speaking of shoes, bright blue + lace dress? Yes please!)
(I’m excited to have someone capture the emotions of the day)
(Especially if it means getting super cute shots like this!)
(I’d love to get some photos of Mr. GP and me at sunset on the water)
(or maybe draped over some rocks?)
(Sigh… so beautiful. This makes me think of Miss Rainbow’s veil inspiration)
(Love the sparkler exits… I wish we could do one!)
So there you have it, our amazing photographer! Amy has been incredibly helpful, suggesting locations and timing for things based on the lighting that will be available, and just generally being excited about our wedding! I’m thrilled she’ll be there to capture the day.
I’ll end on a ruminative note and admit that I feel a little guilty we did not stay with Remanjon studios. Arthur’s longtime associate has taken over as main photographer with his sister running the business (last I knew), and they did offer to uphold the contract with his associate as our main photographer. However, it was Arthur’s photos and personality that we had been so enamored of and while we are certain that Remanjon Photographers still maintains the amazing skills and integrity, we made the tough choice to look for a new photographer we would click with. Thankfully, we have found that in Amy Deputy, and I can’t wait to see the end results!
