But Wait, There’s More!

But Wait, There's More! : wedding cultural traditions Addendu addendu

Stop the presses! More tradition stuff! This morning I found out that there was more! I had forgotten stuff. (I knew there was something that I was missing!)

First, I got this:

But Wait, There's More! : wedding cultural traditions Picture Picture

Aha! A tip from Mr. S’s father! This gave me valuable information in how to stay safe from kidnapping, as well as reminding me of the other said tradition.

And for those of you who are wondering, here is part of the tradition (and the sort-of-related safe-making device).

So here’s the down-low on the handcuff tradition, as filled in to my forgetful brain by my lovely Mr. S. During the reception at some point, the bride and groom are handcuffed together. Every guest has a key. The bride and groom must go around to the guests and complete tasks in order to get a key from them. Then, well, they see if the key works so that they can be un-cuffed.

This sounds pretty rad to me. I love all of this mischief. I think we should have a set of backup keys just in case a guest decides to lose theirs. And said lost key is the one that opens the cuffs. :P

Also, just to solidify the fact that my brain is totally fluffy and girly and wedding-ified, one of my first thoughts was, ‘OOH! We can decorate those too!’ I’m so full of win.

Have any of you other tradition-seekers heard of this one? Isn’t it bananas awesome? Add this one onto your lists, and be prepared for more to come along.

I have never heard of this tradition, but I think it sounds pretty fun, actually! Good idea with the spare key… with my luck, I’d be handcuffed to FI on the way to our honeymoon lol.

That sounds like fun! I’d probably lose track of the guests we had checked with/keys we’d tried, and we’d be checking all night long!

@Miss French Fries: I should get some neon dots to put on the foreheads of the ones we’ve tried. I’m sure they’d LOVE that. :p Or maybe some removable ribbons on each key, so we’d take the ribbon after the key was tried.

@Blueshoes2: I know, me too!

@lauralou852: Pass the info along to them, lol. (Or maybe wait until after it’s your turn to wed!)

@Miss Burgundy: Kiss each other, dance with one of the people with the key, do something silly and/or ridiculous. That sort of thing.

There’s another tradition you might have not found. And I saw it at a lot of wedding over here in Germany:

After the ceremony, when bride and groom are coming out of the church, friends are waiting for them with a bed sheet. A heart is painted on the sheet and bride+groom get little nail scissors to cut the heart out… That really is a tradition I’ve seen a lot!

Here I found a pic:

So fun! Back up keys = excellent idea. Are you going to give your guests advance warning about this?! I would totally spend weeks planning what crazy thing to make you do to get the key :)

And I just thought of another tradition: The first slice of the cake is cut by the bride and groom with one knife. The one who has his hands put on top of the other will be the top dog in the marriage…

I already heard, because of that someone invented a knife with 2 handles - funny!
