Just like I would have laughed in their face in disbelief had someone told me I would buy this dress, I also would have scoffed at pearls as a wedding day accessory - they are so not my style (you can start laughing now because I’m sure you see what’s coming).
Therefore allow me to introduce my jewelry - oh sorry, did I mention they’re pearls?
(Earrings from Filene’s Basement!)
It started with these earrings.
I bought them for $15 from Filene’s Basement a long time ago - I love dangly earrings with beads (I wore a different but sort of similar pair in our engagement photos!), and I think something in the back of my mind was saying, “wedding day?” when I got them. However, that hasn’t stopped me from wearing them a bunch of times since then!
One day I wore them to dinner at Mr. Guinea Pig’s parents’ house, where his mom said, “Those are lovely earrings! Are you wearing them at the wedding?” I paused, and said, “Sure! That sounds good!”
After all, I already know I like them, they weren’t that expensive but they look nice (I think), and the color of the pearls matches my dress! As soon as I said I’d wear these earrings, FMIL Guinea Pig got really excited and said she had 3 different necklaces with pearls, and I should borrow one as my ’Something Borrowed’ for the wedding!
That sounded great to me, so next time we were at their house, she brought out the options - one set had belonged to Mr. GP’s dad’s mom, one to Mr. GP’s mom’s mom, and the last necklace Mr. Guinea Pig himself had given to her years ago! Mr. GP’s mom and I immediately liked one over the others to go with the earrings:

I love that it’s not a solid strand of pearls, and that it sort of matches the silver chain feel of the earrings between the pearls. Conveniently the color of the pearls matches pretty well, too! I honestly wasn’t even sure I would wear a necklace because I rarely wear jewelry, but this would be subtle enough, yet still add interest. I think the necklace falls at a place that would work well with the neckline of my dress, too.
(modeling the earrings and necklace with my hair kind of half back, which is one way I think I might wear it.)
I really have no clue about accessories, but my dress will have a sweetheart neckline (after some alterations) that will hopefully look something like this:

Would that necklace be a good length?? While I completely appreciate statement pieces of jewelry and admire people who can pull it off, since I never wear jewelry I think I would feel weird with more than this. When I bought my dress I thought I would wear sparkly jewelry to balance the lack of sparkles on the dress, but I really like the look of this more subdued combo.
And this concludes my wedding day jewelry! Pretty simple, right? Best of all, it was not that expensive and there is awesome thought/love/meaning behind the necklace! Sometimes I think it might be weird to wear earrings to my wedding that I’ve already worn out in the world - but I like them, so why not?! I would say I’m 90% sure this is what I’ll go with, unless something totally different and amazing pops up. For free.
Because all money from the ’accessories’ budget has now been allocated elsewhere (hellooo envelope liners and nicer OOT bags)!
Are you wearing anything you’ve worn before at your wedding? What kind of jewelry are you going for? Was this a scrimp or splurge category for you?
