I love wine, cooking, curling up with a good book (nerd alert!), spoiling the furbaby, and of course, the wonderful Mr. Buttons! We are planning a lighthearted and whimsical wedding (with a good deal of DIY projects) in Clearwater, Florida, but from a distance of 800 miles away! We are looking forward to sharing our day with our family and friends, and most importantly, starting our lives together as husband and wife!

A Little Sparkle for the Send Off

January 10th, 2010 @ 4:40 pm by Mrs. Buttons

Although it seems like a tiny detail in the grand scheme of wedding planning, our send off is one that I’ve been pondering for a while! I feel like a well planned send off will be a great conclusion to a wonderful night. I am so obsessed with time tables, lists… all the general psycho perfectionism things you can think of. The thought of just ending the night with the lights being turned on like the end of your high school prom just seems… wrong. Very wrong!

So, I started to contemplate. If we were able to have a grandiose send off, what would be better than leaving our reception on a boat???

OK, this is probably not the cheapest option, and there would be the conundrum of where we would actually go once we were on the boat… the hotel that Mr. Buttons and I are most likely staying at for the wedding night is not accessible by boat! Sadly, renting one specifically for the purpose of having a dramatic send off and making a few circles around the inner-coastal might not be the most practical option.

Sometimes I hate being practical! Grrrrrr.

So… what’s something we can do that is a fun, dramatic option, that would make for some fabulous photos?

Sparklers!!! I am currently obsessed with the idea of having a sparkler send off at the wedding.

I’ve always loved to see pictures of people making fun shapes with sparklers, and how cute are these ideas for a wedding!?!?

This one reminds me of an engagement ring! No?

I secretly want to steal the idea of spelling out “LOVE” with the sparklers… how cool is that???

I hope that Mr. Buttons and I will be able to have just as wonderful of a moment to conclude our day!

Are you planning on leaving your reception with a send off? If so, what are you doing?

A bunch of those pictures are ones I used as inspiration too, but we’re going with bubbles since I’m a little scared of intoxicated guests and kids with fireworks. They definitely look awesome in pictures, though!

We didn’t do a send-off, as we were like the last people to leave! I wanted to stay and dance as long as possible! But I think sparklers are pretty cool and some of those pics are amazing.

I love sparkler send offs, but Mama Scissors vetoed it because she thinks we’re all going to get set on fire. *grumble*

@lauralou852: Haha! Drunk people and sparklers might not mix, you have a point….

@Jessie516: Awww I love that you were partying until the end of the night!

@Miss Scissors: What?!?! Drunk people and fireworks don’t mix?!?!

I love the sparkler send-off! Too cute. And the one spelling love is so awesome- we did it in photo class one time and it was SO fun.

I love sparklers! I wanted them at first, but decided petals would be easier.

i am a fan of the sparkler send off but that would mean i’d have to leave before the party was over and i don’t really want to do that

Since we’re staying overnight at the hotel where our reception is being held, I don’t think we’re going to get a very grand send-off. But…if we could, I’d totally do sparklers.

I love the idea of a sparkler send off…such great pictures! Too bad our venue won’t allow it. =(

I really fell in love with sky lanterns but my venue won’t allow them….but talk about dramatic! We’re going with sparklers as an alternative.

@KMSull: I’m definitely going to have to do a little research to find out how to accomplish those pics!

@Mrs. Mouse: Petals are so romantic; good choice :)

@tea: We’re going to be staging ours…it won’t be at the end of the night, since we figure some of our older guests would be leaving earlier…we want to make sure that everyone takes part!

@crebre80: It would probably help if we had a boat…haha!

@Miss French Fries: Aww I hope you can still think of something fun!

@jrl03: I was worried that ours wouldn’t as well…we got lucky!

I love sparkler send offs! I’ve yet to decide if we’re going to do one though. I don’t have the best luck and I’d really rather not catch on fire on my wedding day. :)
