Mrs. Nachos's Picture
Mrs. Nachos, Chicago/St. Thomas Age and Occupation: 33, Commercial Real Estate & Hairstylist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 36, Radio Producer Engagement Date: May 22, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort, St. Thomas About Me: I'm a happy, laid back city girl that can find the silver lining in any situation. An optimist at heart, my motto is to turn your "what ifs?" into "so whats!". My fiance is a radio producer and the biggest Cubs fan you'll meet - our apartment decor definitely shows it. He and I grew up next door to each other and because of it, we have the best home videos and easiest holiday dinners. We are planning an intimate wedding in the Virgin Islands and a cocktail party in June for 150 of our closest friends.
About Mrs. Nachos

Remember the invitation template I liked?

Home Party Planning: Invitations (Pt. 2) : wedding diy invitations stationery 19 1

I got my inspiration from that and I played around on Photoshop to make my own…

Home Party Planning: Invitations (Pt. 2) : wedding diy invitations stationery 24 2

I basically made a picture of sand my first layer and lowered the opacity…

Then I inserted a pic from our engagement photos, added the shells to the bottom, and put in my text. Easy peasy! I think I’ll be printing them out on photo paper so the picture stays clear with a shiny finish. Next up, I have to find envelopes that they’ll fit in and figure out what to do for the RSVP cards (I may be taking the phone numbers and email address off the invite so people will mail the cards and we’ll have more keepsakes). I’m also still playing around with which e-pic to use, but I think they came out pretty nice.

So now that I had my design for the actual invitation, Mr. Nachos and I started throwing around ideas for a unique RSVP. He thought it would be fun to have 2 different items, one of which the guest would mail back to us based on their response. I thought it was a really cute idea, but we weren’t in a creative enough mood to actually think about what the inserts could be. Then we Googled funny RSVPs and found some good ones, but they weren’t quite what we were looking for. So, we sat and brainstormed for a while and came up with these…

The bottom line is a smaller on purpose, and if you can’t read it, it reads, “You got married in the Virgin Islands without me? Go suck an egg. (Ahem, I mean, no thank you).” I wanted to simply put “Suck it” with a box next to it, hehe, but Mr. N didn’t think that would go over to well with the older crowd so I settled for something a little better. I also loved Mrs. Lovebug’s RSVPs and the funny responses she got back so we added the “Other” line in hopes of some good ones.

These are still a work in progress and we’re happy to change some of the responses.

So I come to you all: do you have any other funny ideas for check boxes?

So cute! Beautiful picture, and great job with the shells and sand part! You win!

I’d check boxes 1,2, and 4… and then write something in on the 5th one.

I’ll go try to think of some more good “no” answers. The only thing my hungover brains can think of this morning was, “No, you guys smell.” :p

That’s awesome! Fi really wanted to include something like that with our WEDDING invites. It could’ve been quite funny (we would’ve only done it for certain people).

By “added the shells to the bottom” you mean stole them from the original invitation? That’s unethical and illegal. Just becasue something’s online, doesn’t mean it’s yours to use however you want.

You could take your own photos of shells and then use them instead of stealing someone else’s work.

@Amber: Wow, no need to be snarky. And no worries, I actually completely revamped my invitations and they look nothing like these anymore.

@Miss Nachos:
I’m only snarky becasue it’s illegal and showing this as an example of how you made your “own” invitations encourages others to steal like this as well. Hopefully your invitations are now completely original.

People make a living via designs and photos, etc. DIY is one thing, but if DIY means taking work that should be paid for and stealing it to get around paying for it, that’s not OK.

i hate to be a buzzkill too, but it’s more of a copy than an inspiration (though i do like yours better) - the RSVP notes are funny and orignal though =)

@krissycake: I know, it was more of a playing around on photoshop trying to figure out what kind of invites we want. I liked these at first, but in the end, I made something totally original and totally different from these, partially because of the same reason Amber gave above (which I do totally appreciate), and also because they ended up not really fitting the style of the party…post coming soon!

@Miss Nachos: Hahaha, love the “such an egg”! I wanted to do something fun like that for ours, but the hubby thought the older crowd wouldn’t get it, lol. I hope you get some fun responses like Lovebug did! Can’t wait until your next post to see the end result!

P.S. Just wanted to give you a heads up…you linked to Mrs. LoveBUG, not LoveBIRD (like it says above) ;)
