About Mrs. Buttons

Admitting the problem is the first step, right???

(Ok, so it isn’t THIS bad…) source

Upon moving to Virginia in the fall, I began to realize that I indeed have a problem. And that problem is the desire… no… the need to be tan all the time. This wasn’t difficult when we lived in Florida; Mr. Buttons and I frequented the beach through at least November. But now…

There is snow on the ground outside, and the temperature is sometimes in the single digits! My tan has faded, and the color continues to drain from my skin by the minute. I can just feel it, like the sunshine is being sucked out of my pores. I don’t like the prospect of being pale!

So then, the question arises: how do you manage to get that tan glow for your wedding day? Mine isn’t until the end of May, but to be honest, I am not sure how much time I will have at the beach before then. I really hate to go to the tanning bed…I know it is bad for me… but it does get some fast results (and I have to admit, I enjoy rocking out to some tunes in the stand up beds… am I right???).

Mr. Buttons and I attempted some self-tanning lotion over the past week or two. He selected Banana Boat’s Sunless Summer Color Self Tanning Lotion.

So far, I must admit that I’m pleased with it! When I use the lotion regularly (every other day or so), I can definitely tell a difference in my skin tone… and it isn’t orange at all. You just have to be careful to wash it off of your hands; I forgot one day and had some brown palms! And as for Mr. Buttons? I pretty much want to punch him, because he used it ONCE and it looked like he had just gotten off the plane from a week of beaching it up in the Caribbean. That boy has some luck, I tell you…

So, I’m going to keep on keeping on with the tanning lotion, and perhaps re-evaluate my options when the wedding day approaches! In the end, I know that I absolutely must be a bronzed goddess…

Is it/was it important to you to be tan on your wedding day? What are you doing to get that beachy glow? Are you hitting the tanning bed? Spray tan? Or are you going to just roll with whatever tone you happen to be at that point?

I think I might get a spray tan 2 days before the wedding. I did this as a BM when I was in my friends wedding and it looked amazing - not fake or orange at all. And it was even everwhere.

Interesting–a tanning lotion that makes you brown instead of orange? Awesome. So much better for you than real tanning!!

I feel your pain! It’s regularly in the single digits / teens here, and I am super pale. I use the Dove lotion with the sunless tanner in it, but it’s a little sticky when you put it on — maybe I’ll try this one!

that’s a great idea to try out your options now so you feel comfortable with whatever you choose as the wedding comes up. the lotion sounds like it’s working for you, but i was also wondering about the spray tan route, as mander411 suggested…

oohz! i hate the tanning bed thing ( a girl in HS I know went all the time and she bugged me, so I link the two in my head- odd but true) but I love a new product! I’m suffering from the same- May is just too early for some glow. Have a feeling I’ll be swinging by the store on the way home today…thanks Btons!

I LOVE to tan. I’ve had to stop going to the tanning bed (I was an addict - I went EVERYDAY). It was really aging me and I know it’s terrible for me. But, those 15 minutes are the most relaxing and I relish them.
My wedding plan is to get a nice base tan from the tanning bed and get a spray a few days before.
If you go to the tanning bed too much, you can photograph really orange (I confirmed this with my photog Saturday). I’m doing the same for my e-pics.

Yea girl, don’t do a self-tan session like me and end up like Ross. I wish I had a picture of my arms touching from new years. UGH! I will NOT be sun-less tanning for my wedding :)

Darn Mr P and his sunless tanning ways!

I know it’s bad, but I’m tanning in a tanning bed the 5-6 weeks before the wedding. FI hates the idea, but I figure it’ll be the only time I ever tan again. I’ve only been for a week or two before, but I too want to be tanned a beautiful on my wedding day!

the lotion is a good idea. tanning beds on the other hand are skin cancer in a box. i’ve had two small cancerous moles removed and it sucks big time.

Oh gosh, I want to be as FAR from tan as possible. My skin is dark enough as it is! We have a tropical vacay a month before our wedding, and I’ll be hiding under hats and long-sleeve dresses. :P

Ha! Mr. GP and I are pale as pale can be. Neither of us really get tan, we just burn to a bright lobster red then turn back to pale :) I don’t think I’ll use tanning lotion because I wouldn’t recognize myself with a tan!

Oh, I used to work at a tanning salon and I was SUPER tanorexic. When I look back at the pictures now I can’t believe how dark I was! And back then I didn’t even think I was that tan! Oh, tanorexia, it really is a disease.

I love Jergens natural glow, but it does stink.

Oh girl I feel your pain. Except I’m from Ohio…not exactly a mecca of sun. I loooove being tan and plan on doing a bit of fake baking before the wedding. But I might have to run out and buy a bottle of the Banana Boat lotion. Let us know if you find any other products!!

Unfortunately, I’m going the tanning bed route. I know it’s so bad for me and I don’t usually do it. I’ve tried 3 or 4 different spray tans and while it usually looks pretty good, any dancing makes it rub off onto whatever dress I’m wearing. I really like to DANCE so I know I don’t want any brownish/orangish stuff leftover on my dress.

I’m a reflective pale who’s scared of the sun! I’ve tried a few of those gradual-tanning lotions though, which work alright, but they smell kind of weird :P

I’ll be tanning in the thanning bed when the sun isn’t out! I’ve used a couple of the self-tanning and the lotions with subtle self-tanners and they end up looking uneven on me and orange no matter the brand or cost. So I’ve pretty much given up on them as my main source - they work occasionally but not on a regular basis for me!

Here is my question… I love self-tanners, and especially the gradual tanning lotions. Does anybody know of one that doesn’t smell bad? The smell puts a serious hurt on my social activities. !
