Mrs. Poodle's Picture
Mrs. Poodle, Santiago, Chile/San Bernardino, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Industrial & Web Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Firefighter & Mountain Patrol Engagement Date: February 25, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Mr. P's Grandparents’ Ranch About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who's crazy about nature and swimming. I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.
About Mrs. Poodle

Looking at It from the Other Side

January 11th, 2010 @ 12:40 pm by Mrs. Poodle

When we first started our visa process I never imagine this journey was going to be at times so frustrating and bumpy.

Today we finally sent our AOS (adjustment of status) package out!! and even thought we have no idea how long this process is going to be, we know that this time we will be waiting together. We are legally married, living together, waking up every day to each other’s faces. I can totally say that even if we don’t have the big April wedding, I AM COMPLETELY HAPPY! I get a warm feeling each time I look in Mr. Poodle’s eyes and remember how hard and long was the wait was for me to be with him.

Today we finally sent our papers out, and I can look back and say that if I had to cry all of those tears all over again to be here, in the arms of Mr. Poodle, I would do it all over again, without any doubts.

I know that in the end, every single hard moment we had, every time I felt like I was hopeless waiting on some stupid paper to be happy, was worth it.

At the end (even though this is just the beginning) all of the things we went through made us stronger, and all of the people that said we would never make it were wrong. Our love is stronger!

I shared before how frustrating this process at times could get, and I felt a big need to let everyone know that no matter how long it takes (for us was 10 months), that that time waiting is nothing when it means that you’ll be able to share in the the JOY and HAPPINESS of being with the one you love!

So far, we’ve had our first Christmas tree, our very first New Year’s together. (Last year Mr. Poodle left Chile two days before New Year’s Looking at It from the Other Side : wedding relationships Sad05 sad05 ! )

Welcoming 2010 with my MOH!

I can’t wait to see what else is in store for us, and even though I know sometimes hard times may come again, we are now together, and that makes us stronger. smile041

Have you faced long distances in your relationship, and does that make you appreciate your SO even more?

Im just so nervous about the whole thing. immigration is a complete nightmare. It feels so nice to see other people going through the same process that we are :)

YES! We’re together right now (normally far apart), and we keep looking at each other in awe and just saying, “I love being able to hold your hand.” “I love getting to eat dinner with you.” “We’re watching tv together!”
it’s silly how much the little things mean when you get to be together, and I don’t think I would have ever noticed those little things if it weren’t for the times that we spend (far, far, far) apart.

Mr. Library and I only live two states apart, but we haven’t lived in the same state since six years ago. He also went to Russia for three months last year. It does make you appreciate the little things and makes them so much more special!

yes though not as distanced as yours. i cannot wait until the day that the longest we’re apart is a work day. i love the little moments when we are together that is usually overlooked, taking a walk, sitting in the same room. i especially love it when we get to be a normal couple together.

Congrats! If you haven’t already, I recommend posting your info and following the other January AOS filers on visa journey (http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=235083) it’s really reassuring to see how long the process is taking other people who filed at the same time as you. For reference, we filed our AOS paperwork on June 10 and had my husband’s green card in hand by October. You’ll probably be even quicker since it’s a K1 visa (we were J1).

We did the LDR thing for 2 years… so even now that we’ve been together for 2 years we still appreciate every moment. However, the visa process sounds onerous and I don’t envy your having to go through it!

I’m actually a wedding photographer married to a Chilean and living in Chile. Our story is opposite yours!

I just started reading Wedding Bee because I love hearing about the process of putting a wedding together, so it was pretty cool today to open Google Reader and find another Chile connection on here (Mrs. Bear Cub lives in Chile too. I photographed her engagement pictures!).

Anyway, good luck with the visa process, I know it’s frustrating!

I would get a little crazy when I didn’t see Mr. DE for a day or two, so I can’t imagine how great it feels for you to be with Mr. P after spending so much time apart.

This post was great!! We’re long distance (though not as long distance as you guys at all) and it’s true - when you don’t get to see eachother that often - you truly appreciate every little milestone you get!!
