Mrs. Spaniel's Picture
Mrs. Spaniel, Los Angeles Age and Occupation: 28, Law Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Psychologist Wedding Date: March 2010 Venue: Calamigos Ranch About Me: I'm a third-year law student trying to balance graduating with starting my career, keeping up a relationship, and, oh yeah, planning an Old World, multi-cultural, "mountain lodge" wedding for 180 guests! A South Asian Jewish girl getting ready to marry my handsome Catholic Dane, I'm hoping to blend our cultures in our wedding just a bit more gently than by providing samosas as appetizers and offering æbleskiver for dessert. (Although that would also be awesome.)

Dress Me!

January 12th, 2010 @ 5:52 pm by Mrs. Spaniel

Hive, this bee needs your help. My engagement photo shoot is coming up soon—yes, I know I’ve been engaged for well over a year already, but I’m still engaged! And that means pictures must be taken!—and us Spaniels just do not know what to wear!

First, some background: Mr. Spaniel and I have chosen a setting that we’re really excited about, though we had to pass on a lot of other awesome nearby locations. Goodbye, Downtown Los Angeles!

Farewell, light rail and Union Stations!

I hardly knew you, Descanso and Huntington Gardens!

We’re keeping the actual location a secret for now (I’m! So! Mean!), but it’s probably closest in style to Downtown LA… and I’m struggling with my outfit!

I know that I want to wear something where I feel like myself… and said self is not a dress or a skirt girl. In fact, self is a blue jeans kind of lady, which leaves me basing my outfit choices around my favorite pair.

I’d pair these either with a tunic and some cute flats,

I actually also got these shoes for free with my BlueFly gift card! (source)

… or a sweater and some slouch boots.

Since we don’t have all that much time and I am not sure it will add much, really, there won’t be any outfit changes. Which way would you go? And if you had an e-shoot, how did you choose your own e-shoot outfits?

I would go with a sweater. I think you’ll be happier with solid colors (looking back in 20 years).

We did have time for an outfit change, so we went one formal (OK, formal for us) and then one jeans and sweaters. I’m more happy with the jeans photos - they just feel more us, more relaxed. Good luck and ENJOY it! :)

Sweater and boots! Actually, wear what you wear day-to-day. I was much more comfortable in the attire that was closer to what I wore normally.

I’m going to break with the trend and go with the green tunic and flats. If you’re doing an urban shoot, I worry that the sweater will blend in too much with the grey of the buildings. And if you look at the garden sample you have, how awesome is that woman’s pink dress against the green trees?

The tunic is also a subtle nod to your south asian heritage! you’re excited about the mehendi/henna, but tunic tops are so similar to kurtis which is another great way to rep Pakistan.

@redherring: That’s a really good point. I don’t have that exact sweater (just a similar one… a similar one which was much cheaper and so I picked it up in two colors ;) ) and one of them is hunter green so I might wear that one instead if I go with that outfit. The setting is more urban, but more brick and wood than steel, though, so it might still work!

@soniasays: Exactly what I thought! In fact, the one I’m thinking of wearing actually came from Pakistan on an earlier trip. :)

Looks like sweater and boots are the clear favorite!

I’m on team sweater and boots.

I decided on my outfit about 4 seconds before we had to leave for our shoot. I had about 100 lined up, but then just went for it. Brought a different outfit to change, but never did– I had too much fun in what I was wearing!

I like the first outfit option, but only ’cause I’m more of a dressy kind of girl, and slouch boot’s don’t do it for me. Although I wouldn’t be happy in anything less than 4 inch heels, so what do I know! :P

Can’t wait to hear about your location and shoot!

Love the sweater and boots - if you are a jewelry person you can play with that outfit and accessorize a little more!

team sweater and boots!

and bring the flats to change into- it’ll alter the look a lil but won’t take a major outfit change!

Like the sweater option but I love those flats too! I agree with Miss Pencils: maybe bring the flats too, it’ll change the look without the time/hassle of changing outfits completely.
