Mrs. Lamb's Picture
Mrs. Lamb, Norfolk Age and Occupation: 25, Homeland Security Consultant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Graduate Student Engagement Date: January 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Trinity Presbyterian Church/Harrison Opera House About Me: I’m a Homeland Security Consultant with a tendency towards pulling office pranks, taking lunch breaks, and drinking Wawa shakes. I’m also an English major with a serious obsession with alliteration and rhymes. While I’m not keeping America safe, I’m training for half marathons and the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Or moving for the third time this year. Or baking. Or wedding crafting. Or crying about wedding planning. All the while, I’m getting myself into Lucille Ball-esque scrapes and making Jim Carey-esque faces. Our big fat Czech/Baptist/Jewish/Italian wedding is a combination of vintage eclectic, DIY, and little spoonful of sugar from our Event Coordinator. It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!
About Mrs. Lamb

Huh. Now What?

January 12th, 2010 @ 6:11 pm by Mrs. Lamb

Lesson Learned #647: Prior to the wedding, calculate how much cargo space all of your decorations, centerpieces, crafting supplies, and estimated wedding gifts will require.

So remember how my little studio was stuffed with wedding junk? Remember how I moved the week before the wedding? Remember how much stuff I made for the wedding? Yeah, I would have done well to really account for all that stuff. Unfortunately, on the Sunday after the wedding we were left to figure out how we were going to load everything into our Xterra which was already full of stuff leftover from my apartment. *Side note: Notice my liberal use of the term “our”. That’s the kind of stuff you can really throw around once you’re married. What’s yours is mine and what’s mine is yours, baby! End side note.*

AnyXterra, here’s a snapshot of what we needed to get from point A (the hotel) to point B (our house), via point C (our minimoon destination):

Huh. Now What? : wedding decor Onthe On+the+

However luckily or unluckily we considered it at the time, we had a lot of fresh experience with moving. My move to Durham, the week before the wedding, marked our 4th move this year. After surveying the volume of stuff, we cried “Uncle!” and ran to our home away from home, U-Haul. I believe they said, “Why hello, Jason!” when my woolly counterpart walked in. He expertly rented a trailer and we made quick work loading our bell hop carts. We meandered our way to our minimoon destination at a cool 55 MPH, singing King of the Road and reading wedding cards.

As they say, these things come in threes. Our first U-Haul trailer moved me from Norfolk to Durham, our second U-Haul trailer moved our wedding stuff to Durham, and then we rented a third U-Haul trailer this past weekend to move a dining room set we found on Craigslist. J-Ram can turn those bad boys on a dime now. We’re so efficient, we’re toying with the idea of opening our own moving business.

JK, Lambster! Calm down.

Did you have to get creative in hauling wedding supplies?

So glad you posted this! The house Mr P and I own (and he habitates) is only 1.5 miles from the house that I rent… but still- I hadn’t thought about all of the wedding stuff that will have to get to and from the reception site- oh 30 miles away. Sigh….

Ahhh! That’s nuts! :)

I haven’t been around for awhile, so I’m a little late: but best wishes to you & your husband! I hope you had a wonderful day Mrs. Lamb!

This is a such a good reminder. We’re driving the 5 hours to our wedding and I initially had thoughts of doing all this DIY stuff and bringing it with us. I’m thinking my dress might be taking up all the room instead!

Good Lawd.

We’re sort of using my parents’ house as ground zero for the wedding stuff, but it’s also the location of the reception, so that might not end up working out too well! :p

Uh, yeah, we’re already fully intending to rend a Uhaul truck for all our wedding junk. Like, the 14 foot size!

I don’t want to think about this yet. I believe that all of our wedding junk will magically appear at our house, in a perfect little spot made just for everything.

that’s my story and i’m stickin to it.

Thankfully all things wedding are within a 10 min drive of our house so we can just make multiple trips with all the trucks we mid-westerners own. ;) I may just need to get some tarps in case of rain.

I’m very afraid of this happening to us. We are driving from Southern California to Sonoma and almost everything has to fit in my FI’s SUV. Then it somehow has to get back from there without us because we will be on our honeymoon. We might be in the Uhaul line too!

hahaha. But that’s a good thing to think about beforehand. Hopefully we’ll be able to load most of the stuff into my dad’s truck

I think I have pushed this back into my subconscious so I don’t have to worry about it yet. I’m glad we don’t live too far away from our location!

We had to leave stuff at my parents house after the wedding as the wedding was in my hometown and everything wouldn’t fit in my car and his brother drove his car back so we didn’t want him to have to unload the car.

That’s a lot of U-Hauls! No worry for us, DW wedding means no big gifts to transport. And our after party is a few blocks from home so we should be good to go!
