About Mrs. Mary Jane

I’m going to be in a wedding in May, and this is the dress we maids will be wearing.

Interrupting My Blogging Hiatus to Bring You... Pink Flats : wedding bridesmaid dress shoes Dress01

[I’m not either of the bodies in the picture above; no one gets to see my dress on me until I have it altered to fit my, um, extreme height difference and smaller bust.]

Anyway, that’s the dress. (The bride, by the way, is wearing a short dress, too. It’ll be a sassy soiree for sure!) The bride has requested that we choose our own shoes (thank you, bride!), but they should be pink ballet flats to match the dress. I figured that since we’re getting in to springtime, you Weddingbee girls might appreciate seeing some of the options for pink flats I have found.

My first find was these Anne Klein Iota flats at endless.com.

They match the dress really well, and the bride liked them too. But $80 for a shoe I probably wouldn’t wear very often? Hmm. I thought I might be able to find something more reasonable.

Next, I found these Nine West Vipin flats at Zappos.

The price was a little better, at $68, and the muted color is something I’d be more likely to wear again. However, it also didn’t really match the dress. The bride was OK with them, but she echoed my concern about them not matching very well. So, I tabled them and kept on looking.

Through some google searching for an elusive J Crew option, I ended up at Amazon.com looking at these Merona Madalena flats.

You can hardly beat $20! They come in several colors, too - search them out! Despite their slightly purple tone, I was ready to order the Madalenas. I was a little worried about comfort, but they were cheap, and the dress has a little purple in it anyway so the shoe wouldn’t really clash.

And then I found these at DSW.com: the Leeza Flower Flat, which are b-o-c by Born.

The price was alright at $40, the color was great, and how cute is the little flower embellishment? I emailed the link to the bride, and she was on board. Ordered! (I don’t have them yet, so no photo of them on me, sorry!)

The really cool thing about many of the shoe websites out there is that they will let you search by color and size. Color family narrows it down a lot, obviously. And I wear a pretty common size (9.5/10), so I almost always tell the website to only return options that are in stock in my size. To me, there is nothing more frustrating than finding The Most Perfect Shoe Evah only to learn that my big ol’ foot won’t fit in it. (Of course, if I find an option that’s out of stock in my size, I will always Google like crazy to find another store with it in stock.)

Obviously, I am really happy that the bride let us pick our own shoes. I am a shoe-loving girl, but I have sensitive feet. I was a little wary about the Merona flats because Target’s shoes are often foot-cutters/blister givers. One of the other ’maids found a shoe for $8 a while back, and there was just no way my poor feet were going to be able to deal with that. I have several ’no fail’ brands I like (Anne Klein, Nine West, and Born being among them) and really appreciate the freedom to be able to choose my own shoe from those brands (based on color/style guidelines from the bride, of course). I also have the freedom to spend as much or as little as I want. On the PiperLime site, I came across a $240 shoe that would have been just great with this BM dress. Not for me, but if one of the other maids wants to drop that much dough on their shoe, they could. Or they could spend $8. Or $80. Or in my case, $40. We all spent the same amount on our dresses, but it’s nice — as a ‘maid — to be partially in control of our own budgets for wedding attire.

Are you letting your ‘maids pick out their own shoe? Anyone rocking a pink flat?

My MOH is totally picking out her entire outfit! But she’s a weird size (petite 0!) so it’s proving more difficult than I think she originally thought - but I’m sure she’ll rock herself some shoes.

I adore that last shoe you found — even better than the $80 pick!

For some reason, I read your title as presenting pink HATS and I got really excited, thinking there was some kind of Kentucky Derby theme going on…Oh well, shoes are just as fun and you got some very cute ones!

Best way to do it! I never appreciate having a shoe picked for me, so I won’t do it for anyone else. ;)

I told my bridesmaids that they can pick out any style of shoe in silver that wasn’t a sneaker or a flip-flop. They can wear those if they want during the reception. I’m just not going to stress out about them having the same shoe! I LOVE your shoes though!

Cute shoes! I like the idea of being able to pick your own, it’s much easier on you that way. And I actually bought the merona pair in red, they are my wedding shoes, hehe!

I LOVE the Leeza. I just bought a pair of Target (pronounced the French way) flats as potential wedding flats, but I’m also worried about the comfort factor. Can I steal your shoe?

Hee! I love that some of you are wearing the target shoe. I think it’s super cute and was my second option. I love me a suedy shoe!!

I really love the first pair, but the one you chose is cute too! I don’t think I would have spent $80 on a pair of bright pink shoes either!

I let my maids choose their shoe options (we’re doing pink too!) and sent them a variety of styles as inspiration pics. Which ranged in price from about $60-$240 (sigh, the stuart weitzman shoe is gorgeous but I couldn’t even justify spending that much on my own shoes!).
I think they really appreciate the flexibility, especially since my maids range from 5′1 to 5′11 so the heel heights they are comfortable with vary widely.

My maids are picking out their shoes and jewelry. Not sure what they’re going for, but one mentioned yellow stilettos (the dresses are eggplant), which I’m totally on board with because it matches her personality and is the complementary color to purple (according to the color wheel of my youth).

Those are so cute! I have to have flats cause, well, I’m almost as tall as Mr. KM and we want some height difference in pictures… he might wear his boots, though, so that would be fun!

I like your pick the best! Plus, the inside of them is cute too! I just may have to buy myself a pair….is it spring yet?

I love the final choice, and the idea of picking your own shoes!

I have those same Target flats which I glued some shiney brooches to the toe of. They are super cute and I love them….but they are not super comfortable. I can only wear them for a few hours before my knees start killing me.

@snow - you might want to invest in an insole for them, it makes a huge difference.
