Is That a Ring in Your Pocket?

January 12th, 2010 @ 10:08 am by Mrs. Pug

Per my directive of “try again” after Mr. Pug proposed the first time, Mr. Pug took it to heart and tried proposing a few more times.

Proposal #2

I don’t even remember when exactly Proposal #2 happened, but I do know that Mr. Pug treated me to a very lovely and special meal at Daniel restaurant. I thought this could be the night he would propose.

So before we went to dinner, I looked at Mr. Pug in his fine suit, all handsome:

Then I looked closer, and saw this:

Well gee whiz. What the hell could that be. It makes me laugh thinking about it, because it escapes my imagination how he thought I wasn’t going to notice. I burst out laughing, and the “surprise” was ruined. There was a bit of an awkward moment as we could have gone ahead with the “will you marry me?” part, but somehow it got decided to yet again, put it away for another day.

Proposal #3

Mr. Pug and I were about to go spend a week in Cape Cod in the summer of 2008. I noticed that when he was packing, he was secretive about the whole thing, and at one point when I reached for his bag he wrapped his arms around it like it was a hapless babe, his eyes got real big, and he said “No!!” This guy has no poker face. So endearing.

While staying on Cape Cod, we took daily early morning walks on the beach.

One day (happened to be my birthday) we were headed out the door to go take our daily walk and he abruptly stopped, muttered, went back into the room and came out with a shoulder bag. Veerrrryyy subtle. It was cute, and I could tell he was nervous so I just went about my way.

So we were walking, the beach was nice and empty, and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. And that’s that.

And how, you may ask, was my appearance for this special occasion?

Haaawwwtttt. Hey, he still asked, didn’t he?

Let’s hear others’ proposal stories, whether single or multiple!

HAhah….The box in the pocket thing makes me laugh because it was exactly what I was looking for on the day Mr. P proposed to me. I was so mad when I didn’t see it! Mr. P knows me too well… :P

You are adorable!! These stories are great!! Mine was the first and only, and I honestly had no idea. There were lots of times that I thought it was going to happen and it didn’t.

LOL @ the ring box!!!

I totally saw it coming when my MR proposed. And Pugs… at least you had a BRA ON! It was christmas eve and I was relaxing… towel on my head from my earlier shower, tshirt and shorts, no bra, no makeup. Thus no pictures of me until AFTER I prettied up! LOL!

hahaha my guy? also not so subtle :) He proposed our first night in Mexico and all the way there he would not take his hands off his carry-on. He wouldn’t even put it in the overhead bin! He kept it on his lap (against the flight attendant’s wishes!). To be fair, I did not see the box in his pocket when he actually proposed, but he was wearing cargo shorts with really big/puffy pockets. Perhaps all men planning to propose should invest in a set of cargos?

Oh boys, they really are clueless, aren’t they?? I love how you kept him on his toes by rejecting the first two proposals!

Mr Pug’s poker face sounds like Mr Frenchie’s… the day he proposed had ENGAGEMENT DAY written all over it and he still doesn’t believe I figured it out the day before.

That’s so darn cute! I’m just waiting for the box in the pocket … and I’ll probably ruin it for myself, too!

That’s so funny how bad he is at tricking you — hey, that could be a very good thing!

Mr. Star knew I would be frisking him the night he proposed, so he hid it in a mint box…very tricky.

Super cute!

We were going on a cruise on my birthday so I assumed that he would propose then, but he actually proposed at dinner at the beginning of the month because the ring was burning a hole in his pocket (and because he thought I had potentially figured it out). He took the ring out of the box and had it in his pocket all through church and dinner. It was super cute and he was super nervous and I was super surprised!

lol… the box in the pocket picture makes me laugh! When the mister proposed I was completely surprised. However, when we look back at the pictures, there the ring box is, as clear as day in his pocket a la Mr. Pug! I don’t know how I was so clueless and didn’t notice!
